You miss having a life expectancy of 20?
It's funny how you luddite fuckers glorify the past when most humans throughout history barely made it past childbirth.

"most humans throughout history barely made it past childbirth." is correct.

If you're lucky to live to 20 it's because some wandering tribe hasn't already raped your town. Which was very common throughout history.

I'm between seething about it's intrusion into my life and wanting to egg it on in an accelerationist way. Like FAFO but keep me away from the collateral.

Unlike other fads AI is unfortunately here to stay. Even in the best case scenerio it will still be used to create an abundance of low quality freeware. And we've had an entire generation of hardware and software built around it.

At least I'm free because I've built an ecosystem for myself out of niche alternatives.

Why do you guys always say "unfortunate"?
Technology in the past 20 years was stagnant.
Cameras stayed the same. Cars stayed the same. Even video games barely evolved.

Yet AI finally gives a chance to breathe new life into everything.
It's honestly the best outcome of all time.
We now get better medicine, self driving cars, free art and robo-waifus in the same sprint. How the fuck do you resist that?

It's understandable that AI discussion would be ubiquitous--as you said it is a technology board. My issue isn't with the generals per se--they are a source of schizofaggotry, but the regulars of those threads have issue with them too--my issue is with faggots telling everyone what's what, and perpetuating their shitty memes, like this nigger >108968532.

I'd be less "hostile" if thirdies didn't have access to the site. At least then I'd be sure that most of the stupidity is domestic.

There are many reasons to hate "AI". I can admit there are some improvements in niche cases like medicine. But for the most part it's a surrogacy for authenticity. In software it's being used to cut corners and the execution is awful. There are countless examples of it performing worse than existing algorithmic solutions. Worse of all you can't opt out without abandoning most of your stack.
A lot of this could have been remedied if the approach was better. Instead of forcing it into everything it could have been sold as a premium on top of existing tools. It should have been sold as a product without being part of the product.
It's also not even real AI. Or at least it's very rudimentary. If you ever watched Sword Art Online or Ghost in the Shell, you know a true AI would be bottom up. What we have is an imitation, which could be a start and used in some applications.

Personally it killed all my dreams of going into tech. Imagine being told "learn to code" all your life and then growing up just to see the job be reduced to virtual janitor work. I don't like things being forced on me or paying for things I wouldn't use.

As for tech stagnating I think that's more of a problem of tech companies refusing to take risks while taking up monopolies. AI was just a cost-cutting measure for them. True innovation will come when there are several companies trying new things to compete for market share, them moving in lockstep like this shows the opposite.
>>
>>108968622
And you, my good sir, are a nigger.

We can't verify or otherwise disprove either of our assertions, so let us move forward with the assumption that they are both true for the sake of practicality.
>>108968623
You can't just shoehorn a meme like that one faggot keeps attempting to--no, other third worlders adopting it doesn't count. Either you're a marketing nigger hired by Gook, or a literal nigger, who's easily amused and whose main appeal to the site is its inane entertainment aspect.

Also, the Internet's user base can't just be split in two; it isn't le based 4fags vs le cringe Redditors. From the prospective of other platforms/imageboards who haven't met the same fate as this shithole, you're seen in the same light as Reddit.

>>108968678
>if the approach was better
They wouldn't be able to gather the absurd resources needed to train their models. It's so absurd. To train a person you need to give them food, some textbooks, and a computer. To train AI you need to throw infinity compute at it, and it still churns out garbage.
>>
>>108968678
People said the same thing about every big technological development, but I don't see any of you fags wanting to destroy electricity, internet, automobiles, mass production of physical goods, or any of the other numerous techs that completely removed and made obsolete massive swathes of workers, even family trades.

I don't respect anti AI people because you have no ideological consistency or integrity. The only thing you care about is how this particular thing has, or might, affect you negatively. But you don't give a shit about all the identical cases that hurt other people

>There are countless examples of it performing worse than existing algorithmic solutions. Worse of all you can't opt out without abandoning most of your stack.
You act like the weaknesses or flaws or permanent. 5 years ago no one would have believed a computer could write code.
Now today we're have debates on whether junior programmers can match a robot.
Just imagine where the technology will be next year? It will absolutely be senior level at everything.

>Personally it killed all my dreams of going into tech. Imagine being told "learn to code" all your life and then growing up just to see the job be reduced to virtual janitor work. I don't like things being forced on me or paying for things I wouldn't use.

Well that's too bad because productivity will always win out. If you didn't use AI to code then someone else would have done it and still put you out of business.
There is no point crying about it. Either find new ways to deal with it or just take up another job. No one forced you to go into computer science...

>As for tech stagnating I think that's more of a problem of tech companies refusing to take risks while taking up monopolies
That's not true. Look at what Nintendo did with the Wii and DS? They innovated but gamers demanded they go back to traditional controls.
The risks were there but the audiences turned their noses up at it.
>>
>>108968705
What did the internet create? Instantaneous communication for everyone anywhere. What did cars and trains create? Radically faster transportation. What did electricity create? Artificial lighting and an energy grid. What did AI create? Charlie Kirk memes? It hasn't made people more intelligent. It doesn't "understand" anything. It hasn't radically changed the end product software being built and shipped. At the very best it's enabled the same software to be produced faster, but I frankly see no evidence that's actually happening.

There is no legit criticism.
Imagine it's WW2 and you were standing behind the President and said "Maybe we should slown down the war effort"?
You fighting progress wouldn't stop the Germans or Japanese from pushing ahead.
In fact, Luddites asking to stop technology are literally helping Russia and China.
Both countries will never sign an AI agreement so the robot future is still coming. The only difference is who controls it in the end.

>To train a person you need to give them food, some textbooks, and a computer. To train AI you need to throw infinity compute at it, and it still churns out garbage.
You left out a lot of information.
To train a human you need to raise them for 18 years first. While hoping they stay in school and not becoming some thug or druggie low life.

A robot has no such risk factor. They can be mass produced in a day and they will always stay focused on their job.
No vacations. No breaks. No calling in sick to work so they can go party.

The only garbage is you.
>>
>>108968691
I mean imagine if instead of Copilot being released as a clippy tier annoyance in literally every Microsoft app it was released as an addon package on top of Windows, using context and internal APIs to be helpful in specific cases where it might be useful. Then it might actually be exciting.
>>108968705
>>108968740
You're misunderstanding my position. There are two sides to anti-AI, one you might draw parallels to the luddite movement, that is on the low-IQ end of the bell curve. I'm denying that this is a technological advancement in the first place. I don't feel threatened that it can perform better than me or go rogue. I'm saying it's being misused in the majority of cases and in some it's negating actual tech advancements.
If you're looking to ragebait luddites go to Reddit art communities.
