>e-celeb uploads a video
>blu ray drives go up from 400 pln to 900 pln overnight
>last of the remaining stock dries up
I fucking hate the tech world.
>>
what if you just download the movie someone already ripped from a bd from the internet
>>
It's still easy and cheap to get them. You just don't know where to look. Also admit it, you only wanted one after you watched this video. It's the only reason you researched the prices and looked in the wrong places.

I'll give you a hint. A loose slim drive as pictured in that thumbnail is what you can get the cheapest. You can get a USB enclosure to stick it in for less than $10.
>>
>>108969599
You don't have unlimited storage and it's better to just put in your Blu Ray if you want to watch a movie?
>>
>>108969621
>It's the only reason you researched the prices and looked in the wrong places.
I've been considering getting one for 2 years but struggled to justify the price in the absence of Blu Ray discs until I obtained some.

>blu ray drives go up from 400 pln to 900 pln overnight
Anon, they were well over 500zł for a while now. It's a global issue, they're out of production. Managed to snatch a BW-16D1X-U for like 580zł recently, while the BW-16D1HT I have costed me ~450zł and the last unit I saw was 2000zł. The supply dried up because the production ceased.

I bought mine a couple months ago for $20

I'll just leave this here

>>108969627
seems inconvenient
some AV2 encode of a bd would probably reduce the space by 70% without perceptual quality loss
>>

Oh no. It's a terminal case.

seems legit

Remember when they used to say 128k mp3 audio was "CD audio" and nobody questioned it? That's where we're at with video codec marketing claims.

Good one. Got an IRL laugh out of me.

I bought mine 2 years ago. All I do is looking through decades old burnt CD with it.
I would've use it more if there's even a single movie disc store next to me.
Just get a DVD drive for $15.
>>
>>108969735
I'm going to start ordering some off Scamazon to rip and upload to the internet. There are also Facebook groups where I live where people buy and sell discs so I can unload them after I rip them, or find other discs to rip that way. It's not like physical media collecting is only a western firstie hobby.
>>
Usecase for owning a bluray drive?
>>
File: channels4_profile(1).png (88 KB, 348x348)

What the fuck? Why did they get so expensive? Sure production ceased but they sold millions over 20 some years. My pioneer BDXL burner was like $50 5 years ago and my LG HDDVD/BD combo was only like $40. Do people really want to rip Blu-rays that badly or is this a zoomer thing like what happened to point and shoot cameras?
>>
>>108969750
Creating decrypted backup copies of movies you legally own on bluray discs for personal use and never uploading them to the internet or sharing with others because you're a good boy. Also burning jailbreak discs for the PS4 and maybe the PS5 for the express purpose of booting homebrew software and never pirated games because you respect the law.
>>
>>108969757
Because your external bluray drive couldn't watch any legitimate bluray disc movie after Intel drops the support. It's only good at burning discs and nothing else.
>>
>>108969592
What the fuck are you talking about? It was a sales person promoting a product. He did his job and was paid for doing it.
What is your problem? Why would you mention it here anyways? Are you also a sales person shilling your shit?
>>
>>108969785
That's not how it works lol

https://zenmarket.jp/mercariproduct.aspx?itemCode=m73409897877

Srsly I gave you guys the cheat code already. If you actually are bummed out about this and not just looking for a reason to bitch about YouTubers now is the time to acquire a drive.
>>
>>108969627
But blu rays cost more per gb than modern storage and you can't even rewrite them? Yeah It's true that modern storage options are more volatile just don't forget them under your desk for 10 years and you should be fine.
>>
>>108969785
This only applies to DRM on 4K discs. My Pioneer isn't even one of the 4K models, has all the jewish bus encryption and shit, I've never had an issue playing or ripping a regular blu-ray. I just don't understand why this would drive up prices for the entire market when most drives don't even read the 4K discs.
>>
>>108969846
If you're using VLC to watch the movies, you're already bypassing the DRM to some extend.
>>
>>108969867
If you're buying UHD blurays then watching them in VLC you're probably mentally retarded. You'll want a Ugoos AM6B+ and a nice TV if you're into that.
>>
>>108969867
Yeah but libaacs just uses tables of keys to emulate being a legitimate player. It's still encrypted coming from the drive. It's not brute forcing anything like CSS on dvds. I think 4K discs use a different model where the only way to circumvent it is modified firmware.
>>
>>108969846
MT1959 based drives can be patched to allow playback and ripping of 4K Blu-Rays. Those also went out of production, hence the ridiculous surge in pricing.
>>
>>108969763
What if I have only 2 Blu Ray discs?
>>
>>108970000
Nice quads bro. If you don't think you will ever want to acquire another one for as long as you live I suggest that you download someone else's rips of those discs from the internet and pretend you made them yourself. They're not rare enough to be completely unavailable, now are they? Hell if you tell me what they are and which region I can probably throw them on gofile.
>>
>>108969975
I don't think my drive uses that chipset but it looks like my Pioneer 212M is on an old enough firmware to be used with Libredrive and crossflashed to the 4K one. Considering how little I use it part of me really wants to sell it to some retro game tard for $500 on eBay. It's 110 outside and daddy needs to fix his HVAC blower motor.
>>
anyone who needs this already has it

if you need it now and don't have one just buy it

the price is literally never going to drop so there's no point being mad about this

if it does make you mad just sell it down the line for more than you paid for it what's the problem
>>
>>108970652
With the way they are age gating the internet, you would be wise to be hoarding software, local AI models, porno, and pirated media now before everything you do online is tied to an electronic ID.
>>
>decent BD drives becoming hen's teeth like S-VHS decks
fuckin' lmao
>>
>>108969592
You can get blu-ray players from good will for literally 6.99
>>
>>108971569
I'm sure you can probably get those from Japan cheaper too. You'll need to perform some feats of autism to identify the ones that are worthwhile because JVC didn't use the same model numbers there.
>>
>>108971464
I'm not worried because me and my friends will be trading other people's IDs on Telegram. We already are.

Worse quality and still requires money to be spent. Simply put it doesn't bother me if I'm buying these things, sharing them, and you get them for free. I'd think you were based if you did it too but that's your own decision. But somebody has to do it.

>>108971692
I prefer watching older movies anyway. I am not especially worried about the fastest release of the latest capeshit slopfest.

uhh that the LG one? I think so, the MakeMKV forum is where you go for the modded firmware and flashing tools so you'll learn everything about it from there. And also only after flashing LibreDrive can you then flash OmniDrive for the Redump project archival of CD's and DVD's, one of the reasons I opted for a MT1959 BD-RE despite not having any Blu-Rays. Also forgot you had to do LibreDrive first before you could Ribshark/OmniDrive it when I was flashing my external spare lol, but nothing bad happened, just an error message.

One thing I like the most about our silly toy money is how well it's designed. The late Andrzej Heidrich knew what he was doing, may God rest his soul. It even feels nice in touch, unlike the soulless plastic Euro garbage.

That's why you need to look beyond eBay and thrift stores. It's also why you need to get what you can while you can.
