The biggest telecom company in my country has a monopoly and charges $139 (AUD) per month for ultra fast internet (1000 mbps)
>has a monopolyI don't use Telstra. Never have.
>>108970319gee I wonder why>As the most expensive single infrastructure project in Australia's history,[7] NBN was the subject of significant political contention and has been an issue in federal elections.[8][9] The Liberal government initially stated that the "Multi-Technology Mix" (MTM) would be completed by 2016, however this was changed after the election to 2019 and then again to 2020. The project cost jumped from the Liberal Party's estimated $29.5 billion before the 2013 federal election, to $46–56 billion afterwards. In 2016 NBN Co. said it was on target for $49 billion,[9] but by late 2018 the estimated final cost was $51 billion.[10]
>AUDall australians deserve to sufferstop interfering with whale fishers
>>108970319Lmao that's literally more expensive than what 1Gbps full fiber internet costs in a 3rd world country. This is what years of big government does to you. Australia is a shithole.
>>108970319and how do you think AUS telcos are going to invest in surveillance tech if they don't get that much money? its for your safety
>>108970338At some point, other telcos will use infrastructure from Telstra. They have coverage for 99% of the population.
>>108970319It's not the copper wire age any more. Even Ausiebb don't charge that much.
Been on tpg for years has never let me down other than the price but I don't think I can get a better deal
>>108970763Call up and say you want to disconnect from TPG. They’ll offer you a “Retention discount” and sometimes they’re like $20 off for 12 months
>>108970319Wow that sucks bro. Here in laffland we have a duopoly. Based on >>108970383 it sounds all too similar though. Public money is laundered to select government friends... Same old racket in all angloid nations
there are like a million no lock in contract nbn providers that offer heavy discounts for months, you can just churn through them and keep switching providers to get the discount. I think I've only ever paid around $85 aud for 1000 Mbps this whole time
>>108970874Most people would rather just pay premium and not have to deal with sales reps, honestly. Do you like having to change it every year?
>>108970319>hellstrasucks for you bitch boy
>>108970874Problem is they all use CGNAT so every time you switch you have to call these morons to opt out. Bit of a faff.
>>108970920>sales repIt's an online form. With NBN in aus they light up a service on the next available NTD port. The whole process is painless except for >>108970949
>>108970938Optus made it impossible to install nbn in my apartment, and I had to go without nbn for months until I went to Telstra. I think it’s just to do with their databases and it not being updated properly with nbn co
>>108970422>things are cheaper in poorer countriesno shit?
Thank you based Anna Strzeżyńska for breaking up TP SA's monopoly so that we can enjoy competitive FTTH pricing even in desolate rural shitholes
>>108971046Nice cope. Except historically that's never been the case for anything tech related.I guess internet technology has matured enough to a point where further innovation and investment is not possible anymore and so it's now more closely tied to labor costs. Is that what you're saying? I doubt that is the case though. Long term it's not THAT labor intensive and Australia is a clear outlier for shitty internet. Same with Germany. It's always the commie countries that have shitty internet as one would expect.Oh I forgot, Australia has data caps lmao that's how shitty it is over there.
>>108970319Please understand anon, it's quite expensive to store 5 backups of every single byte you ever uploaded or downloaded and periodically scan them for illegal Japanese cunny doodles.
>>108971219>Except historically that's never been the caseexcept right now it is literally the case. east euro and south america for example have cheap internet.guess you are le cope, huh?
>>108970568>coverage means monopolynot sure if you're genuinely retarded or just a common old garden variety fucking idiot.>>108971219>>Oh I forgot, Australia has data caps lmao that's how shitty it is over there.everyone i know in australia has unlimited data and average 500mbit to 1gbps connection speeds.>I seriously doubt that is the case thoughI seriously doubt you know what day it is, forget about countries and what happens inside them. The only thing you know is your meth dealer's phone number
>>108970319Wouldn't expect less from Hitler's homeland.
>>108972080You seem to have an aggressive persona online to cope with inadequacy in real life. What wounds are you carrying?
>>108971979except countries like switzerland have cheaper and better internet despite being much higher CoL. it is not a CoL thing, it's NEVER been about CoL. it's a combination of how much of a free market there is in the country + location + private investments. countries like the US are fucking huge and people are fairly spread out so that's a valid excuse but australia's population is heavily concentratedgermany until recently famously had a very low amount of fiber residential connections. it really is pathetic. how can you not see the trend? countries with overregulated telecoms have much shittier internet even if they're richer on paperhttps://www.speedtest.net/global-index this is by no means a definitive ranking but it's one of the few constantly updated and somewhat accurate sources of public, unbiased data. you can very clearly see a trend here, there's high correlation between market freedom and average internet speed>>108972080wow congratulations for finally starting to catch up with the third world, australia. im happy for you
>>108973000here you go, cretin. things are cheaper in poorer countries. amazing!
>>108970319Pretty good value. I pay £55/month for 160/30.
>>108970319That same plan is 109 on superloop
>>108974510>Philippines almost 4x the cost of PolandRead your graph before posting.
>>108970763Been wanting to switch off TPG for a while, but they've been charging me only $80 for 500/50 for years so there is no point swapping. When they adjust my plan/price im swapping so fast.
>>108975545>cope posting outliersembarrassing
Assuming you don’t have six people in the house all trying to watch different 4K video streams all at once, what are the use cases for anything faster than 100 mbit/sec (12 MB/s) internet?
>>108970319and?gonna cry like a little bitch that you're paying slightly above average for 1gbps internet?little bitch
>>108975634nice, some grandfathered plan? normally thats $95. god our infrastructure is so fucking cringe
>>108976293I was given a "temporary" speed increase which didn't end up being temporary. But there are other telcos that offer 500/50 for $80 like Exetel.
