Use case?
>>108971522Play games?I think that's what it's marketed to be.
>>108971522No, that's a steam box
>>108971530But I can already do it on my console/PC/laptop/phone.
>>108971522Probably gaming related stuff.
>>108971522It's for fags who still give a shit about video games. Ignore it.
>>108971522That's an elevated drink coaster to prevent your hot mug of coffee damaging the wood of your table.
>>108971522>Use case? No, don't use case. The case is a bad size and shape for most hardware.
Not much use, at least at $1000 like it will be.6 ryzen cores and a slightly worse 7600, worse than a ps5 at a much higher price. Most people are better off with a poverty build with similar specs, heck that what most people already have and they won't spend another $1000 on another that's more limited. It will probably be mostly a flop, although not as bad as the first generation (2014)Steam deck worked because it was a new form factor and it was $400.
>>108971522computer games but on a tv like a video game console
>>108971634But consoles already exist and are cheaper.
>>108971624>at $1000You mean $1500.
>>108971624Bro, fucking deck is already 800+Honestly dont see a usecase, rather get handheld on lastest intel slop (which is quite good) and use it in dock mode when needed
>>108971522>use case?no, case already has hardware in it. press button and play game
>>108971522It was supposed to be a cheaper alternative to every console that would run 70% of games.
>>108971676No trackpads, no buy. Simple as.
>>108971641Consoles don't have the steam library.
>>108971812What good games are on Steam that aren't on consoles?
>>108971522>>108971530>>108971536>>108971634worship the saturn storm cube, goy!
One question i have, is why didnt they go for 24gb of unified memory instead of a 16 + 8 setup? seems like huge gains are being made from not totally bottlenecking the gpu to 8gb
>>108971916gddr is expensive, and nah, with a low-mid range gpu like this there's very few gains to be had from more than 8GB vram.>>108971812>>108971847The real question is "what games are on steamOS that aren't on any PC?", the answer of course is none. How big is the userbase of people that don't have a PC but are willing to pay $1000+ to only play steam games, not other PC games and do other PC activities? Very very few.The only target demographic for this is people that already have a nice PC, big steam library and don't mind wasting $1000 on it instead of just using a cheap streaming box or hdmi to play on the TV. Not that many people.
>>108972067i feel like it targets console gamers and people that want a loungeroom pc
>>108971522I pray to it daily, inshallah
>>108971522Gabe Newel, what does it mean?
>>108972484>recommendedbrother I think you can't read
>>108972525I read it. I'm demanding that the steam cube has better specs so that I can run blender according to their reccomended system reqs. This luxury product shouldn't perform at a mere minimal requirenment
>>108972484The RAM is upgradeable, so is the SSD, troon
>>108972576But the CPU isn't, though.
>>108971522To provide hour long debates segments for shitty tech and nerd culture podcasts.Current usecase; nonexistant except to placate the Valvetendies. I still plan to give gaben money for a controller and the frame, but if this fucker is over 800; the scalpers can attempt to enjoy their purchase.
>>108971522people without a pc or a console
>>108971522Ignoring the shitty price it'll eventually release at, this thing is pretty sick as a tv console. They already did the worst part of mini itx builds (putting the damn thing together) and with the first party support it'll have hdmi CEC and a bunch of other features that are kind of annoying to get working on a normal pc.What's stupid is it's the only console that sells without a bundled controller. It even comes with the dongle built in but you have to buy a controller that comes with a puck you just use for charging or something? If it were like $600 I would consider it just to emulate games and stream from my pc to my TV but at $1200+ without a controller it's a shit deal. Not powerful enough to replace a pc but priced like one. You're better off getting a good laptop and docking it.
it's already dead since nvidia made pc2
Dedicated goon station
>>108971544 It's cheaper.
>>108971522wait it comes with a remote?
>>108971522fitting it up your arse probably
>>108971676The only thing that matters in handhelds is batery life. As long as games can hit 30fps at 15W, that's all that should matter. auto-cpufreq and LSFG-VK take care of the rest.
>>108971522>Use case?>>108971624>Not much use, at least at $1000 like it will be.there are platoons of problems with this. we dont know the price yet, steam might be testing the waters with those leaks but lets assume 1k min. they are too fuckign late with this. Should have come last year. new generation of tech is right at the doorstep. assuming ps6 will use that I might be buying a console at release, first time in my life.New apus and mobile gpus will make every existing console obsolete, which is bad news for the owners, good news for everyone else because these new low tdp high computing power chips are fucking awesome.M5 is actually pretty fucking great. Amd soon expected to dominate that field with their new apus. These are good news... until datacenters find a usecase and gobble up most of the chips and I bet these chips will easily find a usecase in the ai craze.Dunno what valve thinks, I guess gaben expexted his megayacht to be cheaper than 1b and expected to develop and release the machine/frame sooner, cheaper than they could.Just give me the fucking frame already.
>>108972845It's not cheaper than consoles.
>>108973231>new generation of tech is right at the doorstep. assuming ps6 will use that I might be buying a consoleCrossgen periods have become so cancerously long that new console and PC hardware releases are basically a nothingburger for at least 4 years after they came out. We still got crossgen games on the ps4 as of last year.
>>108971676I was surprised that they didn't just make a new, more powerful Deck and include a dock and controller (or at least make it one of the main options to purchase). That would excuse the specs to a degree at least, and increase the market to include people who want a handheld.
>>108971522wasting your fucking life on bing bing wahoo

>>108972067>The only target demographic for this is people that already have a nice PC, big steam library and don't mind wasting $1000 on it instead of just using a cheap streaming box or hdmi to play on the TV. Not that many people.Yeah I'm pretty much that demo and I'm likely not gonna get one. If the price was right I was thinking of maybe getting one for my kid as a starter gaming PC... But again I could probably throw together a similar gaming PC or get a pre built for the same price as it's likely to be. Maybe if I was more of an anti-Windows Linux fag that would tip the scale enough. And I am one to some extent just not that much
>>108972585Cpu is Ryzen 5 7600X spec thereabouts. Plenty enough for gaming for a long while. My second porta PC is running a 3400G and it is plenty enough for the editing I need and running FEM simulations. And it runs games without problems. The fuck do you want from such a small device? 9950X3D? Threadripper? Some ungodly server CPU abomination? You want to run AI on it don't you? I know that is what you want, the troon faggot you are.
>>108972928>15wor you can hit 30fps at 7w dumbass
>>108973288You buy this and you can already use your existing library. You buy a console you have to buy the special console version of the games no matter if you already own it. Consoles suck and only brainless faggots simp for them.
>>108974413Having a large Steam library means you already own a PC so you don't need a Steam Machine.
if you don't want something don't buy it, why come to the taiwanese basket weaving form to complain about i>>108971624I think it will flop hard too, the RAM pricing fucked them, they have to release it now because they don't want to be accused of vaporware, plus R&D already done>>108971916ram is expensive, the 5060 has 8GB of ram, my guess is they just looked at their hardware survey data and decided it needs to be as good as the midrange.
Would make a nice HTPC to 500 €.
>>108974429That is because you are a basement dwelling smelly faggot. There are plenty of people who have an older PC and the Steam Machine is a viable option for upgrading. Also it is good for a media PC, running on the TV alongside the desktop at its place. And plenty of people move around either because of their job (I know, having a job is an alien concept for you) or because they go between their college/uni place and their home. It certainly beats dealing with building an ITX case. What's that? Laptop you say? Ever tried using one for a prolonged time? Small screen and not enough power or slightly bigger screen and scorching up your fingers and has zero battery life, not an option. Laptops are for work on the go not for desktop replacement. The Steam Machine has its place no matter how much your incel little monkey brain having a fit. Deal with it.
Governments might buy it to switch to a somewhat ok and idiot-proof Linux distro lol
>>108974762When you decide to upgrade you want to upgrade to something actually good, not already obsolete hardware, worse than the (soon-to-be) previous generation of consoles - that's just depressing.
>>108971522Home Theater PC with Linux that has a snappy, gamepad-friendly interface.
>>108974508>I think it will flop hard tooThen you are a fucking retard. It will sell out nearly instantly at whatever volume they choose.>>108974508>the RAM pricing fucked them, they have to release it nowThey don't have to do shit lol do you know how much money they have? They don't have shareholders little buddy,
>>108972067>The only target demographic for this is people that already have a nice PC, big steam library and don't mind wasting $1000 on it instead of just using a cheap streaming box or hdmi to play on the TVI might consider getting one because game streaming from my desktop to my TV works horribly with sunshine/moonlight. Yes, I've done the tinkering and troubleshooting, it still works like stuttery shit.
