use case?
>>108976450Cute, so it doesn't really need one.
reading?
>>108976470Solely in well-lit environments, as there is not backlight, strangely enough. So, it's an eBook reader that only reverse vampires can use.
>>108976450none. reading is a lost skill>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTugyu2F0pc
>>108976470use case?
Reading? I hope the newer backlit version doesn't have dogshit battery life, it looks like they're switching away from the ESP32 which worked fantastically due to its low power consumption, but now they're removing the buttons and shoving in a touchscreen to make it harder to use. If it gets the same level of CFW support it'll be the best e-reader out there, but that's a big if.
>>108976470what makes you think reading is a metric?
>>108976529cant they just add some 4 corner tiny specs of warm led lights to it? something that just works and doesnt drag the battery down?
>>108976543They definitely could, but they definitely won't.
>>108976482>Solely in well-lit environments, as there is not backlightSo.. like books?
>>108976543I mean, LEDs are always going to drag the battery down. The worst is what they were originally planning, which was the S4, which was a version with android. There are a lot of android e-readers these days, they're all fucking atrocious because android is a very performance intensive system and it guzzles batteries. They're worthless. With the new X4 they're at least staying with a custom OS, but I don't think I can overstate how poor the touch screen experience is on e-readers. The first X4 just doesn't have a touch screen. You can't accidentally trigger a page turn when you pick the thing up, which is possible with basically everything else on the market. I don't know why they keep forcing this shit on users. It makes the screen look worse, because you need a touch layer in the stack. They run like shit, because you're always second guessing if you actually tapped and the device is just laggy, or it didn't actually register and you're just waiting like an idiot for 5 seconds. At least they kept the side page turn buttons, if they ditched those too I wouldn't buy it.
>>108976573Precisely
>>108976579>>108976567Well, cant they add it to an external case?Like a case with a little battery and a side light like ones for physical books? I mean, i dont realyl own one, im plenty content with my old ass kindle but i see the allure in the X4 rather than another FOM for tech retards that got got by paid youtubers...Still tinkering with your Miyoo Mini and Snowskii Echo, anon?
I went from a 6" Kobo to an 8" one and found it a big upgrade, I would like a 10" but can't justify the price. Why are people excited over something so small?
>>108976598>Well, cant they add it to an external case? There are essentially 2 ways to do lighting after the fact. They already sell a magnetic worm light, the other option is like the old Sony e-readers where the case has a perspex flap that's edge lit and goes over the screen which is very glarey, but I couldn't find a picture of this, I guess it's lost technology.>>108976613Personally, I vastly prefer smaller e-readers. Makes them way easier to carry, and I don't need to read PDFs on the go, just text. If I had to read bloated files like that, I'd rather just use a regular tablet with more power so they don't take 10 seconds to open.
>>108976637>I vastly prefer smaller e-readers.I would if they were sturdy enough to keep in my pocket without breaking, but they aren't.
>>108976450>physical buttonsBUY BUY BUY
>>108976450Putting waifu backgrounds on.I really like it when travelling because it fits in my totally not a purse cross body bag. I love that it doesnt have a touch screen or a light, its perfect for my use case
>>108976450none that exist for the consumer that they can get an equivalent or better function of elsewhere, exists to make the book market a walled garden and control entry and publishing if it ever went full digital>this plan failed already>>108976470can use my computer or phone for that, often by just googling the book I want to read by adding pdf to the search stringand those come with backlight and are multifunctional
>>108976821>can use my computer or phone for that, often by just googling the book I want to read by adding pdf to the search string>and those come with backlight and are multifunctionaldedicated devices help me (adhd), and eink is nicer to look at than an oled screen, just being real. plus this specific form factor is great for if you travel a lot
are kindles the only e-reader worth getting or are there alternatives i can load PDFs onto?
>>108976781cute
>>108976821>>108976854there are a lot of brands and models that can't connect to the internet and can't enforce (((drm))) and thus you can pirate to your heart's content. most of them can re-flow pdf files, too, unless said pdf's are image-only scans, but you'd notice that because such pdf's are 300MB+
>>108976854pdfs suck on kindle, all the alternatives with large screens will be better, but imo if youre thinking for textbooks, a physical one or on pc where you can quickly flick through pages is so much better. i say this as a kindle owner too (althuogh an older model)>>108976862<3oh one other thing, with crosspoint installed on the x4/3 you can wirelessly transfer files which is pretty neat
>>108976450Cuteness
>>108976591>tfw books are obsolete and lost their use case
>>108976869does a kobo enforce drm?
>>108976918no idea. I have a pocketbook basic 4 and that one doesn't.
reading is cuter on an oled white on black
I like owning physical books, its funny cause I couldn't care less about owning a physical videogames but for books it makes a world of difference.
>>108976450I have one of these, they are extremely portable. That's the main draw, you can use it on your day to day, on the train and stuff. Less strain on the eyes than a phone. Doesn't force you to carry a bag like a bigger eReader
>>108976954oled is worthless in the middle of summer at 1PM in sunny weatheronly eink and transflective lcd are good for that
>>108976821>exists to make the book market a walled gardenHow lmao.
>>108976450Those e-ink displays are easier on the eyes for reading, and don't need much power. That one seems a bit too small to me, but it could be nice if you travel a lot.
>>108976999that anon was probably under the impression that only amazon makes ebook readers (kindle) and they do absolutely make their shit a walled gardenthank god they can't achieve monopoly status
>>108976993i mean amoled. I don't have issues reading in full sunlight.
>>108977009I have a Remarkable Paper Pro Move I use for work, and I fucking love it.
