yes they are ram hogs and slow to start but feature completeness is uncomparable and refactoring features are in another class of their own

>but you have to pay
their main ides are free for non commercial use now and if you have a job the company would be paying

Me? I'm a Zed kinda guy.
>>
>>108977328
what does zed got going for it other than quick launches and peddling ai?
>>
>>108977348
>peddling ai
you don't even need to use it and the editor never puts it in your face.
>what does zed got going for it
it is fast throughout using it. not only on launches which I quite frankly could give less shits about because if a project requires maven or some other bulky framework to run the launch time of my IDE doesn't make a huge difference anyway. multibuffer editing is very nice especially for refactoring and for me personally I feel much more at home with something that feels like a text editor rather than an overblown IDE with tons of features I don't even need.
I used to trim down my IntelliJ to a point where most of the features weren't visible anymore and then I downsized and have been as productive as ever without paying.
also Zed never tried to implement it's own language servers so if your obscure language has an LSP you can use it. on JetBrains' tools it used to be custom implementation that always lacked behind. with their foray into the now defunct Fleet they finally understood that using standardized LSPs is the way to go but honestly they've lost me because the community has been asking for this for ages and the devs only listened once their shareholders noticed loss of users.

I just use Lazyvim and it works.

And dropped. Literally the one thing an IDE must not do under any circumstances.

am using Zed as my main editor for almost 2 years am not missing anything from vscode which I have used before, great little shitter

IDE doesn't stand for Low RAM-usage Editor.
>>
>>108977309
Emacs mogs every single environment, but requires a triple digit IcQ. Literally, nothing tops it.
>>

IDE doesn't stand for High RAM-usage Editor, either.
>>
>>108977691
It literally does. Integrating all development tools into a single application necessarily comes with increased RAM costs. And IDE that strips out features in the name of saving RAM is not a good IDE.

Eclipse still just werks

Geany doesn't have this problem

I'm with you. I used VS Code before and then via uni and work I eventually tried out IntelliJ, Pycharm, and Android Studio. There's simply no comparison, VS Code is ugly, unwieldy Microslop shit compared to JetBrains stuff. PyCharm in particular is awesome, especially if you also work lot with databases.
>>
Thanks, but I'm sticking with Sublime Text 4.
>>
>>108977530
same. I used to be an avid sublime text user but it had fallen so far behind when it came to plugin support that it wasn't even funny anymore. let alone the fact that git integration was always an external tool you had to buy and there was no embedded terminal either.
vscode never felt right tho, it was always this weird, unsnappy slight lag that annoyed me.
zed is just doing all the things right.
for things that require a bit of a setup (spinning up containers or similar) I just have simple runners setup. now that zed has a built-in debugger I am missing literally nothing from other editors.

It's true.
Performance is pretty shit and it can take many gigabytes of RAM. But it's by far the best code editor money can buy and their DB plugin is better than any dedicated DB management program I've ever used. + it even integrates into the autocompletion, completing and validating SQL as you write it.

I could never downgrade to Visual Studio code and its fragmented third party plugins full of token stealing NPM malware that also all conflict with another and never play together. It's like trying to make vim work, except you don't even feel like le epic unix master h4xx0r. And every other editor is even worse.

>>108977457
I didn't know it still exists.

Probably exactly 100, can't be more. Although I never used it, I'm pretty sure it's a meme editor, just like vim. Literally nobody uses them, besides people who fall for 4chan memes.

oof
