READ THE (temp)WIKI! & help by contributing:
https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Home_server

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

totally looking for getting a wildcat lake board for a firewall and 2x panther lake boards for media + file server simply because panther lake has ecc support while wildcat doesn't
I think those will be great for low power home servers

Linkding seems really cool but I don't like that I have to go to my server page to access my centralized bookmarks. Is there anything that integrates better into browsers or some kind of better extension? I get the "just search tags" thing but I'm not really maintaining enough bookmarks to make that really worth doing.

So there is this seedbox provider,
it is super fine, for years!
Intelligent users who are peacefully living with their slots,
who use the seedboxes in an intelligent way(!).
No evil shit connected to the servers!!!
Then from around last autumn there is constantly reports
who connect the servers of the seedbox provider
with the worst imaginable shit content*.
What is your reaction to this as the user?

(I know that it could be false reports,
but there is this possibility that these are not false reports.
There are more details to this, will see if I attach them in a following post.)
Because of the frequency, it is very likely that someone wants that
the servers are connected with the evil shit content.

*shit, which should not exist, and definitely not be seeded!
(I'm not talking about legal content where copyright could be relevant.)
