I use Firewalla instead as a gateway + unifi switches/aps for two small offices and it just werks. I just run the UniFi network controller on a spare windows laptop. Has been running for over two years with no problems. Firewalla is an IoT router that auto updates itself so I don't have to waste my free time fucking with it, and I can troubleshoot shit remotely on the fly.

I just finished a job interview and fumbled when discussing salary. I currently make $95k, and I was expecting a $120k offer. When I scheduled the interview, I stated my range was $100k - $120k. I'm looking at working for a small company (~50ish people), the work is interesting and the people seem nice from my interviews. It's not a startup as its been around for 10 years and is profitable and has no external funding. Only a few glassdoor reviews to go off of but they seem positive.

They seem to have at least 1 of everything so there wouldn't be as much 'wearing several hats' as in other small companies (there is a PM, QA, and UX on the team). The nature of the project would not require any perpetual on call shifts either.

Only weird organizational issue is that this specific team would just be me and 1 other dev (~12 devs in the company split across various projects), and the PM for it is also the hiring manager + does a bit of QA himself since he has a lot of technical knowledge in the domain.

So, it sounds fun, but I'd say the main issues are growth opportunities (there aren't any staff, architect, etc. positions, only software engineer -> senior, and I would already be a senior). And also it might not look as good on a resume as larger, well known companies. Anyone work for companies like this and have experiences?

Solution to having a CV riddled with gaps for a CompSci major? I already submitted to Amazon 2 different CVs (not identical) so I pretty much can never get hired there. I did a course after highschool and then dropped out since I found out that they were trying to give me bad grades to keep me another year at their institution instead of getting into college then I actually did a course and got into college and everything went well until the plandemic and from 2021 til 2024 I was a NEET (college course deferred indefinitely) and worked for 1 year. Now graduated but CV looks like shit. What's the solution especially since a lot of websites store your CV even if they rejected you in the past.
