You sheltered child, it means she’s banging/wants to bang someone on that team and she lost her chance. (Any other possibilities would just be that she’s retarded.) ALWAYS drink with the person who is most likely to go off about the company too, it’s the most opportunity for fun

I agree on that outlook entirely. The company was going to be on fire metaphorically and literally. So the best thing to do was to save itself from the bloat entirely. They weren't wrong to identify Peter as future leadership since he knew well and good that majority of the work was bullshit. Paperwork is only as good as the bosses ability to hold his employees nose to the work. What did the TPS reports even do?? That was the crux of Peters identity crisis that led him to do what he did anyways.

what do you mean by large? floor space or seats? I don't have any personal experience with unifi gateway/firewall, but the switches and APs are solid.

I use Firewalla instead as a gateway + unifi switches/aps for two small offices and it just werks. I just run the UniFi network controller on a spare windows laptop. Has been running for over two years with no problems. Firewalla is an IoT router that auto updates itself so I don't have to waste my free time fucking with it, and I can troubleshoot shit remotely on the fly.

They judged technical employees entirely on social skills and failed to notice the structural causes (which they happen to be at the center of) that made Michael insecure about his job.
They are members of a clique and were hired by their cliquemates to advance the interests of the clique. From this perspective yes, they did everything right.

>>
>>108983851
A every single time. Startup is unstable and shit and you have to work hard, but this early in a startup you get a LOT of say. You don't get bogged down in bullshit tech and bullshit broken codebases and shit, you get control over what you do. You get to shape the company and have an impact, on top of this freedom. Obviously to be clear C is optimal, it's just that C usually has been an instance of A for me. B is awful though. The people you talk to are retarded, your colleagues will be retarded boomers at best, you don't make enough for anything, just enough to live but not thrive. There is no upward mobility, and you will end your career there because people will see your exp in a small accounting firm and tell you to fuck off since you're not enough at the bleeding edge of tech or whatever.
But I would do anything to never again work at FAGMAN. I would rather be homeless. The politics and the employees being dumber than rocks with 0 to learn during your time is really shit.

Save the money EOL means nothing. EOS is all that matters. You start your purchase of network hardware a full 2 years before that date due to shipping time or other bullshit so by the time it arrives 1 year out to EOS you can fuck with it just long enough to throw it on the network safely. EOS means you don't get any more security updates btw.

What? Yes I can, the sysadmin work was pretty sparse and the jewish boss wanted to make sure I worked the full 8 hours every day so he put me to babysit devs whenever it looked like I had nothing to do.

I just finished a job interview and fumbled when discussing salary. I currently make $95k, and I was expecting a $120k offer. When I scheduled the interview, I stated my range was $100k - $120k. During the interview, the recruiter dropped the bomb that $100k is the absolute limit. I lost my composure and tried justifying a request for slightly more, but she firmly insisted on the $100k cap.
I performed great in the interview, and she assigned me some homework. I completed it quickly. Now, I am unsure if I want to submit this assessment or simply withdraw from the process entirely.
What should I message the interviewer?

Boomers grew up in a time when there was stronger notions of national pride/identity and neighborliness. They grew up in a relatively higher trust society. There parents for instance came back from war and got jobs working where all the (male) employees had basically had the same experiences as them. There was a solidarity and camaraderie in their working culture that is unimaginable today. You could get everything you needed from one job at one company. There wages could beat inflation. They had upward mobility. These things are not remotely true anymore.

no web/mobile skills or open source contributions, just do kernel/compiler/emulator dev for fun (making my own platform), only interview i've scored 1 year out from grad was at apple
nova scotia canada has pretty non-existent tech sector, being full-time at mcdonalds makes reskilling tougher. hoping to leave province in a year or two to literally anywhere else, would also appreciate relocation suggestions

I need to vent because I just had the most embarrassing interview experience of my life.
I applied for what felt like the perfect marketing position. The problem? I am absolutely terrible at talking about myself. Add the fact that I haven’t had an interview in over 5 years because I’ve been busy raising my son with special needs, and you have a recipe for disaster.
I recently decided to go back to school, earned my marketing degree, and thought, “‘Okay, let’s do this!”

Fast forward to today: there I was, in my 30s, armed with school knowledge, determination, and approximately zero confidence.
The interview started. I was anxious. I was stuttering. I forgot how to form complete sentences. Then the interviewer asked me a question that I did not understand.
I asked him to repeat it.
Then again.
And again.
And again.

And one more time for good measure.

After the fifth attempt, I still had no idea what he was asking. At that point, my brain simply clocked out for the day.
So what did I do?
I HUNG UP.

Not “the call dropped.”
Not “I’ll get back to you.”

Anyway, if anyone needs tips on how NOT to interview, I’m apparently an expert now.
>>
>>108988243

I'm looking at working for a small company (~50ish people), the work is interesting and the people seem nice from my interviews. It's not a startup as its been around for 10 years and is profitable and has no external funding. Only a few glassdoor reviews to go off of but they seem positive.

They seem to have at least 1 of everything so there wouldn't be as much 'wearing several hats' as in other small companies (there is a PM, QA, and UX on the team). The nature of the project would not require any perpetual on call shifts either.

Only weird organizational issue is that this specific team would just be me and 1 other dev (~12 devs in the company split across various projects), and the PM for it is also the hiring manager + does a bit of QA himself since he has a lot of technical knowledge in the domain.

So, it sounds fun, but I'd say the main issues are growth opportunities (there aren't any staff, architect, etc. positions, only software engineer -> senior, and I would already be a senior). And also it might not look as good on a resume as larger, well known companies. Anyone work for companies like this and have experiences?

This was the same day our only database admin was fired for "budget reasons," and now our mysql, postgresql, mongodb, couchdb, spanner, bigquery and aurora instances across sixty accounts all have to be managed by whoever can spare the time.

The request, he says as if it's obvious and the managers all nod their heads knowingly like I shouldn't be asking. "So, do you mean rate of incoming http requests, or resources requested/reserved for use by this pod?" *stares blankly at me*

He doesn't fucking know because he didn't decide this, he didn't even come up with the idea, this is what the AI gave him. He doesn't even know enough to see where the chatbot got things wrong, but he's basking in the praise of these people who write his paycheques.

The way AI is used where I work looks no different than just handing the work to pajeets overseas and letting them deploy to production without even a QA pass. Jesus fucking christ.

Because that's exactly how it is. Oh, and it's not where you work. It's EVERYWHERE.

itll swing back just wait. ai is the new vietnam. 2010s was when we laid people off and hired dudes in beijing because they were cheaper. then beijing got expensive and theyd quit after we trained them. so shaw shut down the beijing office and opened a mumbai one. four years later mumbai is too expensive and theyre quitting after we train them for better jobs. mumbai office is still open but they opened a new office in hochimin city because vietnam is the new india is the new china. anything but paying local workers.

when I write a ton of shit with claude I always go back manually and read / take notes on everything so I don't end up in this situation where I don't understand a decision that was made. I also catch fuckups it makes regularly. And yes its still faster to use the ai than it is to write it from scratch, at least in my niche field it is.

TBQH fampais the Dario "90% of code will be written by AI in two more weeks!" is happening to me now.
>prompt Claude/Cursor about what I want coded
>review and refine plan
>review and tweak AI's output
>all in all it's working out to being ~80% AI written and 20% human re-written/refined

That pic is so retarded. Half was proven right and the other half went in totally different directions, e.g. those demanding the adoption being portrayed as being scared of being replaced by it.

Solution to having a CV riddled with gaps for a CompSci major? I already submitted to Amazon 2 different CVs (not identical) so I pretty much can never get hired there. I did a course after highschool and then dropped out since I found out that they were trying to give me bad grades to keep me another year at their institution instead of getting into college then I actually did a course and got into college and everything went well until the plandemic and from 2021 til 2024 I was a NEET (college course deferred indefinitely) and worked for 1 year. Now graduated but CV looks like shit. What's the solution especially since a lot of websites store your CV even if they rejected you in the past.

If your resume is that bad why are you wasting time applying to FAANG?
Aim lower, stack YOE, then you can rewrite your resume to minimize your gaps

1. contracting - just list your company, list of clients confidential. I have several years of gaps masked that way.
2. wear your gaps proudly - just come up with some good excuses. lie if need to.

How do we fix modern job searching?
>centralized around one dogwater platform
>full of ads, irrelevant postings, really bad filtering options
>not easily automatable
>cannot be aggregated into a larger feed
>very US centric
I could go on, but you get the idea. I do not understand how people deal with this shit

Im guessing the point is having a public image and talking to people directly? (Assuming you are competent)

Bringing back in-person networking and making it actually useful.
The internet is increasingly bots. More and more job postings are fake. AI automation makes it possible for people to spam applications so recruiters get 1000s of applications for a single job.

decades of brainwashed made amerimutts fucking stupid. they automatically assume that everything good for them is actually bad because... some hidden reasons.
it must be some kind of deep insecurity that has been implanted into them, one that has them consoom a lot and justify their stupid decisions because "good things bad".

Am I an idiot for telling my manager and teamlead to consider having more people on shift at once? We can barely handle the amount of shit with 5 of us.
Is it unnecessary fuel in the fire while they're gently coasting like pushovers without causing too much waves with their higher ups?
At the same time, if something happens, they'll blame me for not speaking up about issues.

In person networking can only take you so far though, especially when you are from a smaller town without much tech opportunities
I think bot spam is completely manufactured and preventable, i see far fewer bot posts on here after they started puttibg in the captchas, i can imagine an enterprise with billions of dollars can do the same, but they dont because they are a monopoly and there is no incentive to improve
Spam is also preventable, ots like we have forgotten how to proper software is made

For context, my startup idea was to use AI to moderate forums to combat racism/sexism/transphobia
>>
>>108993647
4th time applying, 4th time getting generic rejection. Comp bio, strong deep learning component, already have 2 clients, but not even getting the top 10%, and the analytics show they haven't even looked at my application. Not sure what I'm doing wrong though, I fit all the checkmarks and 2x I cleanly fit 3+ RFS's.
>>
>>108993647
how much do you want to bet if you look up the startups getting funded on ycombinator its literally all jews and indians?
>>
>>108993738
Not really jews actually, but overwhelmingly indians, nearly all are doing chatgpt wrappers (I'm >>108993708 by the way).
>>
>>108993747
color me shocked. is it above 90% indians?

its so stupid how predictable everything is. though im slightly surprised its not just straight up 50% jewish 20 year olds.
>>
>>108993790
They release lists of startups accepted in each batch. Many don't put themselves in the list until they land in SF, or emerge from stealth, but you can have a look here: https://www.ycombinator.com/companies/
Supposedly it's only 30% with indian founders, but that's not what I've seen whenever I would take a quick look. I would have said at least a good 70%. And the remaining are heavily biased toward asians and then hispanics. Definitely a very very strong bias for young people.
Despite what they like to say, it's extensively clear to me that they have the same fixed profile as anyone else, only fund the same thing as anyone else (so currently nearly exclusively AI, but only LLMs, no other kinds of AI allowed), They clearly don't get about "perseverance" as they claim, nor traction, and absolutely not founder background.
