>Brave is going to charge $60 for users who don't want "revenue-generating features like VPN and [netzero-style] ads" built into their browser

are we going back to firefox?

If you're unfortunate enough to be on Windows then just use Winutil to de-bloat regular Brave and get Brave Origin.
If you're on GNU/+Linux then just download Brave Origin for FREE.
If you're on macOS then go brush your teeth because your breath smells like cum.
Simple as, stop seething.

Yeah or use a competent browser like Firefox or Vivaldi instead, and ublock origin. Never have dealt with this scummy jeetware in my life and never will.

I never move away from browsers fully, I add to an evergrowing suite of browsers
brave will likely exit it if it gets rid of its one defining gimmick (admittedly its a nice gimmick but not one that isnt replicateable for free with minimal effort)

Why do people even use this meme browser? Firefox + ublock just werks.

I don't really think there's anything wrong with charging for the browser, but tying your Odentification to what's supposed to be a secure browser sounds like honeypot shit.
I use Brave on my phone and LibreWolf on my Linux laptop.

What browser to use? Chromium?
Shitfox is cucked and i doubt libre doing a big job about it.
>>
>>108985029
I'd say Librewolf for Gecko, but it lags behind with security updates.
I'd say Helium for Chromium, but it's made by a random that will disappear one day.
So yes, just use the base Chromium.

Brave has adblock stuff built-in and just werks.
I run at least two browsers, one for my official shit and one for random browsing. I've set up ungoogled chromium with ublock origin and that's fine but brave is an easier setup with better performance for basic adblocking.

The Brave Ads in question aren't intrustive at all. They are just three tiny icons on the address bar, that don't even appear when in private mode/incognito. The icons are for brave rewards, brave wallet, and Leo AI. And there's an option in the menu to "Open a new private window with Tor."

Those don't bother me at all but I think it's perfectly reasonable to offer a paid version that's stripped of all revenue elements. I wish more ad/data-supported products offered reasonable paid options.
>>

>>108986527
Those aren't the brave ads dude. The built in adblocker actually blocks the brave search ads and all the ones on the new tab pages are opt in. Also you can hide all the toolbar icons by just right clicking on them, except the media indicator for some reason, which is annoying. I don't understand why browsers and even entire OSes have these media trays now, I never needed them before, only makes sense if you have something going in the background 24/7. Sounds awful.

That blog has acked itself multiple times and was always just an ad for pale moon until he personally beefed with the dev and now everything is high or very high except ungoogled chromium and librewolf despite librewolf making way more connections than ungoogled chromium, and also connections to number of unique domains being a phenomentally retarded metric in the fisrt place. I will stick to common sense, Brave downloads safe browsing data proxied without uploading anything that alone makes it one of the best.

Honestly, Brave is probably the best browser for iOS, mainly because of the adblock + it's basically just chromium, so I can see why it's so popular.

Linux/Android/Windows should stick to FireFox (gecko) with UBO. Maybe Brave as backup.

Safari has a bunch of extremely retarded behaviors that every other iOS browser tapes over. If you insist on going that route I'd recommend using AdGuard instead of uBlock (assuming you mean Lite, regular uBlock doesn't run on any version of Safari) as they have much longer history supporting Safari and much better coverage. Also, Firefox Focus can be used as an ad list for Safari, interestingly.
>>
>>108987022
safari cannot do background playback for youtube.
ublock origin lite has limited filter lists. no bypass paywalls clean.
>>
>>108987035
only the paid version of adguard has the good filter lists.
wblock is free and doesn't do this.

I had adguard and switched to ublock (lite if you want to ahkshually). Can’t tell the difference outside of ublock being updated more frequently. I haven’t seen an ad in a long time.
>Safari has a bunch of extremely retarded behaviors that every other iOS browser tapes over
Such as? Outside of kneecapping webapps due to app store rent seeking I haven’t really had any issues with safari on an iphone or an ipad. Admittedly those are consoomer devices rather than anything you’d use seriously. On a laptop I use firefox dev edition which i’ve been happy with for over a decade.

wrong, all ios browsers are safari reskins. no other browser engines are allowed on ios.

It’s just a phone that I mostly use to take funny pics of my cat, sis. There’s nothing of value in my browsing habits.

I was mentioning iOS and you can't install Extensions on iOS, not even on FireFox(werks on android), so Brave is perfectly fine FOR iOS and possibly the post option.

Wrong, or only half of th truth. At least in the EU, Apple must allow non WebKit browser Engines.
But yeah, if we talking about MacOS, just go with FireFox and UBO, lol.

also wrong, alternative engines are a thing in japan iirc. eu mandated different app stores (that nobody uses) and asking which browser to use as default (everybody uses safari and all are forced to use the same engine). they also forced applel to stop fucking with wireless headphones across multiple devices but it isnt yet in effect i think

>At least in the EU, Apple must allow non WebKit browser Engines.
nope, there are several roadblocks which makes this not true in practice.
https://github.com/mozilla/platform-tilt/issues/37
so no one bothered to actually use a different engine.

Okay, okay. I kneel. Thanks for the citation. My friend just switched to Brave, because he couldn't install UBO in FireFox, I didn't even know extensions were a thing on Safari.

And the Webkit fuckery sucks ass, I just read that 2 years ago they had to allow non webkit browsers, but if practically no one is pushing them on iOS, whats the point.
>>

no, adguard's safari's extension adds like 20% background overhead, ublock origin lite like 10%. so you now have like 32% more.
