this time refuses to implement standard Wayland protocolhttps://wayland.app/protocols/wlr-layer-shell-unstable-v1https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/work_items/1141
>>108988657Why does GNOME hate Drew Devault? They never want to implement any of his protocols specifically
I like their hardline approach, more devs could learn a thing or two from them. But their product is dogshit. GNOME is ass and was only briefly made tolerable by Pop shell.
>layer-shell protocolYusuke's?
>>108988657Gnome is the retard containment DE so be happy those devs don't work on KDE
>>108988657BASED
>>108988657Good. I don't need it.
>>108988657>2019
>>108988855What does op get out of having an engagement farming bot? Or maybe it's the mods themselves to make the board seem more alive than it is
>>108988657>2019they are right desu. The layershell protocol is broken. It allows for full sandbox bypass. You can get full mouse positions, display on top of other apps, capture keybinds...

I wouldn't mind if gnome had fucked off and made their own broken desktop for themselves, but they've continually sabotaged wayland and linux as a whole. qt also self-sabotaged with licensing and language choice so way more applications use gtk than really should, given how crap it is, giving them outsized influence.
>>108988665Based Gnome, for once
>>108988855>>108988881Check the first link it's still not supported in mutter.
The Steam Hardware survey reveals that the KDE version of Fedora is the most popular.
it's not a standard Wayland protocolthe only way something can make it to the actual standard is if Gnome approves it
>>108988657This is one reason why my application needs to run under xwayland on wayland. That also prevents steam from being a native wayland application and have all features functioning properly, as for example steam has its own notifications. Custom notifications are needed because wayland compositors disable notifications when you record/stream/remote play
>>108988657>gnome refuses performance cancerGood. Overlays are for debugging, at best.
>>108988665Nah they just want to allow any non-gnome style applications. Its the macos of the linux world.
>>108991356>GNOME mogging the shitware known as steamI'm failing to see the issue.
>>108991377
>>108991392Do you unironically think the shitty steam client is good? Why? Outside of being forced to use it, I wouldn't even bother.
>>108991450Don't you love running an extra chromium instance that spies on everything you do just to launch a game?
>>108991456I bet you use vscode
>>108991793lol no
>>108988657Wayland is a meme.
Wayland? more liek GAYland lmao
>>108988657>Hey, why don't you implement this protocol? We don't want to support that functionality.>But it can be done using the gnome extensions api.We don't want software devs to write software that just works everywhere by using standard protocols, they need to have a specific implementation for gnome onlyI hope most software devs stops supporting gnome.
