what made people hate W11 so much? has it gotten better?

last straw for me was it refusing to let me customize the system tray, it literally put up a NO sign when I tried to do it

fuck windows 11

I hate windows 10 and 11 equally.

I'm only going to focus on LTSC versions, tweaked with WinUtil and ShutUp10, because other versions are for retarded goycattle.

1. Win11 LTSC uses more RAM than Win10 LTSC at a time when RAM costs more than a PS5 Pro
2. Taskbar is laggier for no good reason
3. Volume bar and network bar are combined for no good reason and cannot be uncombined and takes a long time to pop up due to taskbar latency as stated
4. Taskbar, Windows Explorer and other GUI elements are entire "Edge WebView2" NodeJS JavaScript web apps for no good reason
Probably forgetting some other things that annoyed me about Win11.

Win11 today is practically identical to Win10, you can even use settings to make the UI identical. It’s only an issue if you use powershell, which… don’t.

Not really. Some elements (like the recommended list) are react native so it is JS but not a webapp and doesnt use webview they draw using XAML directly.

I care about stability and performance. I cannot think of one thing Windows 11 improves over Windows 10. It looks worse, performs worse, is less stable, bloated and full of antifeatures.
>>
>>108988973
Windows 11 released in 2021, just now Microsoft is "testing" small taskbar and movable taskbar, let that sink in and answer your question of " has it gotten better?".
But realistically speaking, Windows 11 past 23H2 is pretty much the same trash that Windows 10 was with 3 more programs that you have to uninstall on a fresh install.
Still waiting for a modern Windows release that will match the raw performance of 8.1.

>>
>>108989005
I've hated windows since 7. Once they started pushing the Win8 ads in it, you just knew that the illusion of 7 being some bastion of adware sloo were totally under M$s control. I went to Linux and haven't looked back since. I only deal with this winjeet shitware as a wageslave and it is shit compared to Linux. It's fucking pathetic that I actually praised the day 11 came out because basic shit Linux has has for over a decade was now built into Windows. Of course it's slow and shitty and you can't move the taskbar, but hey, it's Windows.
>>
>>108990950
New context menu isn't totally useless. It's slow for some retarded reason, but you can decompress .7z, tarballs and shit. The functionality exists in Shell.Application though, so you can probably hack up a legacy context menu entry to do it.
>>
>>108990943

Because windows 11 has a proper compositor that doesn't shit the bed with basic tasks like remembering window positions on monitor changes or needlessly compositing borderless windowed content. There are more reasons, but I'm sick and tired of pasting them here. Those two should be enough for anyone who plays vidya or actually uses a KVM switch or multiple displayport monitors.

What made people hate W11 so much?

Standby
Try to revive it form standby it just sits there login screen not loading. Have to Restart it.
Icons on the taskbar disappear randomly need to restart program or explorer to get them back. Mostly when come back from standby but I had it happen just for shit sand giggles during the day.

Right click on files have to go show more options every fucking time

Random bugs and shit that appear and they fix them eventually but sometimes it takes forever like the fTPM shit on AMD CPUs
I had my LAN card not working after standby too for at least 2 months.

After windows update for some reason it takes 2 minutes to boot into windows, before update it took like 30 seconds.

Windows ENDLESSLY BLOATS
Windows folder is 100 GB on my SSD go check why
>LiveKernelReports is a a whooping 22 GB from one DUMP
>Panther folder is full Monitor .log files a fucking wooping 27.1 GB of fucking .log files Each 32~16 MB endless steam of log files.

Notepad, Paint everything is now "Online"
BRO I JUST WANT NOTEPAD

Explorer takes forever to load

I feel but I can't tell you if it's true that every setting, every high end user customsation and option takes x2 more clicks then Windows 10 and x2 more than Windows 7

>useless new context menu where you have to click "show more options" to get to the classic context menu?
you can restore the old one by putting this in windows terminal:

reg.exe add "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}\InprocServer32" /f /ve

you can see that here, since you shouldn't make registry changes based on some rando's say-so (but you should have been able to figure this shit out on your own, because any search similar to 'restore old context menu' in any search engine would tell you in short order how to do this):

My main reason to switch would be for HDR but those are valid points. Feel free to list other reasons but I understand if you don't. A straight upgrade might break stuff or cause future issues so I'd rather not do that.

Every post ITT responding to a valid critique with
>"you can just do X to get rid of that"
is sorely missing the point.

The entire point of my using Windows instead of Linux is that I shouldn't HAVE to do any of this. If I wanted to fight my PC for upwards of 3 hours just to get a decent computing experience, I would install any /g/entleman's recommended Linux distro and start trawling through wikis and stackoverflow posts to get things working.

I understand you're ostensibly just trying to help, but the point is that you shouldn't have to do all of this to get a basic standard of usability on Windows when it has unironically just worked out of the box in past iterations.
>>
>>108989544
They broke it back with Win8, before Nadella so the usual suspects can shut it. The classic theme is still in the code, but you have to break a lot to enable it, then fix it again. There's an entire online community forum that's all about doing just that.

You and I know damn well why people hate Windows 11. I still use it on at least one of my computers though, and once you get into the weeds of debloating it and configuring it to remove Microsofts intrusive autism it does become a fairly good OS, but let's be honest, nobody should have to do this, especially not for fucking Windows, it's the equivalent of Linuxfags trying to tell normalfags that Linux is good if you spend 6 months tweaking it. Which I mean yeah, but that's just not realistic for most people

>>108997102
I'm not missing 'the point'
I naturally agree that there should be a version of windows wherein we don't have to spend tons of time tardwrangling to remove dogshit that nobody wants
but merely complaining does nobody any good
for example, compare >>108990950 to a hypothetical post that reads, 'the win11 default context menu is ass cancer, but thankfully it can be reverted with this method >>108991734 '
that's simply a better, more informative post that indicates the poster had a problem, found a way to solve it, and shared it
>you shouldn't have to do all of this to get a basic standard of usability on Windows when it has unironically just worked out of the box in past iterations.
there has historically always been arcane bullshit that needed changing or removal from minute one in windows
it's just that the bullshit load has gotten larger with every iteration, with the biggest-ever increase in this generation
we do what we can with what we have; I still consider it a less-bothersome option compared to Linux

OT, but around 20 years ago I was at my parents workplace. I was allowed to use some Joe Random's computer to kill time. On desktop there was a shortcut with a red three pronged boomerang icon. I've never seen it before, but it launched Age of Empires. This set me up to get really confused when each time on a different computer that icon would open some stupid worthless program that shows text instead of the game.

With that all said, anyone reading this is better off using Linux.
>>
>>108992494
How? Windows was literally never good. It has always been a bunch of genius super devs autistically fucking with some subsystem while the rest of the ecosystem languished in more insanely hacky and broken dogshit. You learn that a lot of GDI shit was basically garbage pushed out by the Office team that has to be cleaned up over a few years. You learn that the kernel and userland have application specific quirks so users (and devs) can continue shipping broken UB dogshit with no consequence. M$ still refuses to release the basic SDK and tool chain under a redistributable license so people either illegally use it or make garbage software using mingw. It's a meme OS. 7 was just a "usable" meme. It still packed a lot basic shit.

>Name one OS that isn't a security nightmare you muppet. Moreover that doesn't mean it isn't good. It just means it is insecure.

XP had 2-3 viruses every week that infected every single computer on the planet. It had viruses that plugged in the security hole used by previous viruses. You could crash any computer you wanted on the local area network with picrel using a console command and knowledge of the IP address; it even bypassed firewalls.

It wasn't insecure, it was straight up unusable until SP2. Then finally became decent with SP3 + IE7/8 but by then you already had Vista SP1 and it was only a year until Win7. And before SP3 you had to use installers that had the 100+ patches slipstreamed in, otherwise every install started with 2-3 hours of running Windows Update.
