Depends. The stacks weren't insane, you could do useful things in just one programming language and you didn't have to think about package managers, dependencies, LSPs. But I do like some of the modern stuff, lie git is great, tiling window managers are great, even without LLMs internet helped find information and you can just go to the documentation website and just find stuff.The real difference is that back then you had a chance to make real difference, now nobody cares about software anymore.
