I will weather the storm with this rig.

who the fuck upgrades RAM yearly? only a rich idiot

cant wait for it to become unjustifiable from a business perspective, the pricier it gets the sooner that is

This is true, however, some people have shit PCs right now and would like to upgrade.

This is why I bought my shit back in early December when it became clear the market was fucked.

I still paid slightly inflated prices compared to mid 2025, but I got a steal compared to mid 2026 pricing.

Imagine my face when I bought a ddr5 ram with only 16gigs thinking that the price will drop in a year or so and I can get more ram
>>
in 5 years a midrange PC will cost as much as a Lancer or a Z4. right now a highend build is already that expensive
>>
>>108992765
Cheapest DDR5 32g, no RGB kit is 300 USD in my cunt. If that is going to double and go to 600 (even 500) then who's gonna buy it? It seems rediculous to me
>>
>>108994060
the chinese are already selling ddr5 32gb for $150-$180
>>
>>108992765
I have multiple DDR4 16GB RAM sticks of different frequencies (don't give a fuck about that) as a backup. I don't need to upgrade because 16GB is more than enough for professional desktop usage. Just tell me a legitimate use case where you need more than 16GB of RAM.
>>
>>108992765
RAM prices will violently crash when the AI bubble bursts. And speaking of AI.....
>>
>>108992765
with how every other pc component dropped in price, the ram price hike doesn't matter that much, it evens out
>>
>>108994138

>>

At least they still make DDR5, I built a DDR4 system thinking it was good enough for now. If anything in it dies I'm fucking screwed.

>>
>>108994138
reminds me how microsoft, not a long ago, rebranded some of their software under copilot(tm) naming , in order for the management chain lie to the board about the subscription count for their services.
>>
>>108994338
>All of our users are using copilot!
>Amazing, how did you achieve that?
>Well, we renamed every one of hour products 'copilot'...
>>
>>108994313
There are tons of ddr4 ram on the used market.
>>
>>108994113
>Just tell me a legitimate use case where you need more than 16GB of RAM.
I max out my 16GB laptop all the time doing CAD/CAM stuff and even my 32GB desktop comes close, and the stuff I work on is relatively simple compared to what a lot of people do.
>>
Prices will double every year in case you still haven't caught on.
>>
>>108994419
Yeah and they got the idea that it was now worth 300% markup.
>>
>>108994641
I've seen RAM on a 500% markup.
It was DDR4 registered ECC which tends to be cheaper than desktop DDR4 and yet sellers still had the scones to try to charge $120 for a 16GB DIMM when they where $20
>>
>>108994606
>CAD/CAM
>what a lot of people do.
Let's be honest, there are not that many people doing cad work in general, let alone some advanced stuff
>>
>>108993697
one of mine has some bad spots.
for now i just map it so it goes unused.
>>
>>108994606
Depends of the type of CAD, and the kind of work you do. Eagle/KiCAD aren't demanding and 2D autocad is quite lightweight on the hardware. Your usecase is quite niche.
>>
>>108992823
The cascading industry failure is going to be hilarious yet also depressing to watch.
>>
>>108992849
You say that like those are impressive specs.
>>
32GB is the current "gaymer tier" spec. Anyone who actually wants to play around with new shit like local AI or gaussian splats needs more that that.
>>
>>108992765
Top signal
>>
>>108993285
Ummmm you need more ram to get more ram
>>
>>108992823
it is for non-gaymer pc builders
>>
>>108992765
>>
>>108992765
So, those Nvidia systems are about go up to 8k each then?
>>
>>108992849
Get the 5800X3D when it rereleases soon and you're good unironically
>>
>>108992765
What about chink RAM? werent they flooding the market or some shit?

>inb4 botnet
>inb4 quality

All shit is botnet'd here too and quality is at an all time low anyway, no difference getting chink stuff anymore
>>
>>108995117
Might be a good time for it, I saw a story claiming companies are spinning DDR4 production up because DDR5 is being swallowed up by big players, so there's a gap in the market with DDR4
>>
>>108994913
Beggars can't be choosers.
I only play factorio these days anyway.
Maybe the new anno soon.

>>108995117
If the price is right, i probably will.
>>
>>108995120
That's still years away, even longer if the yields really are as bad as the rumors are.
>>
>>108992765
At this point should I even sell my old computers I have lying around? They're appreciating faster than real estate.
>>
>>108995128
>Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition, it hits store shelves again on June 25, 2026, for a lowered retail price of $349.
>>
>>108995222
So it's going to be at least 450, and sold out in a hour.
>>
>>108995244
unless if it's real paper launch, I doubt big retailers will sell them for higher than msrp, at worst they might require you to buy as a bundle due to very limited supply
>>
>>108992878
This. Imagine you can wait until prices are normal again. You would not buy RAM at the current fantasy prices, which would be bad for sellers.
>>
>>108992823
I use 3D graphics production software that's more resource intensive than today's games.
>>
>>108993697
>3600
dude
>>
Imagine if building a PC were to become more expensive than buying a Mac of equivalent performance.
>>
>>108994925
It feels like 16GB was the "somewhat plenty" standard just a while ago.
What the fuck happened?
>>
>>108995344
Windows 11 happened, everything is now basically a web browser, etc
16GB is the minimum for office work these days
>>
>>108995340
Memory fuckery affects Apple too so how would that work. They can absorb the memory hikes only for so long
>>
>>108995340
>>108995367
Yeah even mediocre Mac Studios are going to become like $5k or something crazy
>>
>>108995120
>What about chink RAM?
Why would their RAM be any cheaper if megacorps are buying the next decades' worth of supply?
>>
>>108995353
If to compare my old laptop with W10 and new laptop with W11 (and arguably not much stuff installed yet but I don't think much shit is running in background in old laptop either, might need to check again with antivirus installed on new laptop), then the difference is about 2, maybe 3GB. I used to run the old laptop on 12GB of RAM for years without much issue besides gaming but the rig isn't made for modern AAA slop anyway. It runs DRG perfectly fine.
>>
>>108995121
How bad are DDR4 prices?
>>
>>108992849
Almost literally me (non-x), but I fear the storm may not actually end naturally.
>>
>>108994814
Compared to people who use PCs for gaming or basic productivity, sure, but it's still a big niche with probably hundreds of thousands of people, particularly because 3D printing is so widespread now and lots of people use the free version of Fusion or the maker version of Solidworks to design random shit to print.

>>108994896
True, 2D CAD is light, but there's way more 3D stuff being done these days between architecture, engineering/manufacturing, and hobbyist stuff these days. There are tons of other people doing similarly demanding stuff like (non-CAD) 3D modeling and video editing as well. It's a small number compared to general PC use but the other anon said "professional desktop use."

LLM corps have already increased price/decreased quotas few times. Some software dev companies run out of yearly budgets for AI just in few months. In the company I work for the tech leadership also has introduced weekly limits. I have no idea how LLM corps are going to pay for the hardware if the price doubles.

They wont, its 2001 again and they are all about to explode. Back then there was the same circular economy where big corpo invested in small corpo so small corpo could buy overpriced shit from big corpo. Back then it was yahoo and sun microsystems doing this shit with a bunch of startups nobody remembers, the result is yahoo becoming a shitheap and sun having to whore themselves to oracle for nothing, I'm gonna laugh when nvidia's value goes down to nothing and they get acquired too.
>>

>>
>>108995905

>>
>>108993697

does that mean a phone coming out this october or november will cost more?
>>
>>108995746
Even in a bubble pop scenario LLMs are still going to grow (at a slower pace) and companies are still going to need AI hardware for managing essential things like robotics and facial recognition.
Nvidia aren't going anywhere besides remaining at the top.
