it's easy to mock MX Browns as linears, but keep in mind
they're an acquired taste
>>
Base: keyboard is a chink prebuilt mechanical, one year old. Light linears but can hardly said to be abused. Preinstalled foam layers.
Problem: certain keys not functioning properly/consistently without hard press, one (A) stopped functioning entirely recently even when pressed all the way. Some keys like function keys are hardly ever used and yet also affected. Problem switches noticeably wiggle/twist a fair bit in their sockets.
Solution: swapping switches around AND doing a tiny bit of bendy-twisty on the pins to make them touch contacts more aggressively, both switches in each exchange.
Observation: Keys that had unreliable function now work correctly with donor switches. "Bad" switches function correctly (mostly) in their new sockets. Both do not wiggle as much as before, but the ones in the "bad sockets" definitely still move.

Are the switches to blame for being poor quality or it is a poor PCB with loose socket contacts? Or both? And yes, I'm not an /mkg/ regular, I don't have spare switches just lying around to test with. But I will if I don't just swap to a new board.
>>
>>109004036
It could both be the sockets or switches. You could try Gaterons or other proper switches with thicker/better pins(get the 5 pin ones). If that doesn't work then it's the sockets/pcb.
>>
>>109004217
I'll need to look at them again but I don't think there's space for that many, its 2 copper pins + the switch nub and the rest of the socket is a flat face, or at least that's what it looked like to me. Info on the board online says its 5 pin compatible though. Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and get a handful of alternative switches to test before considering replacing the whole thing. More pins must be more resistant to rotating around.

>>109004236
It's probably not 5-pin compatible if there aren't two spaces on either side of the big middle hole for the additional plastic legs. That doesn't matter much though, you can convert any switch to 3-pin by just snipping those little plastic legs off with flush cutters or nail nippers.

The extra pins do help with stability but are intended mainly for keyboards with no switch-plate. Very niche.
>>
>>109002910
Recommend me a good keyboard.
Preferably a keyboard looking like the one in the op pic with rgb lighting so I can turn off but still read the keys.
Quiet but reactive buttons would be nice too.

it will make all the difference in the world
springs are cheap, try a half dozen of them from SPRiT/Geon/TX
lube em straight in the bag with 105 (check YT for a tutorial) and you'll have your perfect spring test
I like em at 60g 18mm from TX, will try some other weights and heights later

Hot-swap in mice is like the PS5 Edge meme. Companies cut costs as much as they can, saving less than a penny per switch by giving (You) shit that fails within months, then they come out with a magical solution where you can replace the failing part yourself with the same part that'll quickly fail, all at a markup.

While in reality all that they'd need to fix it is to stop being a bunch of penny pinching kikes, use switches/potentiometers that don't fail within two months, and we wouldn't have this problem. At least in case of mice it's relatively easy to replace the failing switches with better quality ones yourself if you have basic soldering equipment and skills. Not that expensive, not that hard and they come in very handy.
>>
>>109004541
>>109004847
I've gotten a chance to pull and check; they are in fact 5 pin sockets. So there will be no problems here, just have to wait for switches to arrive and before that consider which ones to order. Might as well get a full TKL count since if it turns out its the board that's bad I can just get another barebones and work from there. Man, not really happy with this one even though the shape is just right, not that there are very many ways to make a TKL.
>>
>>109006958
Kailh hot-swap sockets were never the problem. Just take the PCB out and support the socket on a flat surface before installing switches
The real issue is people who think they can brute-force a switch in and then wonder why they ripped a solder pad off the PCB
>>
I got two sets of cheap PBT double shot keycaps from the same manufacturer (same series, different secondary layouts) and they look slightly different, one is brownish another is bluish, neither look quite as black as ABS under direct bright light.
Is that a PBT thing? afaik many types of plastics are very hard to make deep black or white (while preserving their properties and price).
Or did I just get chinked?
>>
>>108997825
>Euroniggas, is there somewhere that makes keycaps with various languages
I'm new to this and I'm dumbfounded by this also.
As far as I can tell Keychron sell keycaps, so maybe you can just get an iso set and keep the backspace etc. keys that you can't change? you'd have to match colors in that case
>>
>>109007449
What I meant is that they're a meme as they're the wrong solution to an existing problem. Unless your problem is being able to easily test various mouse switches, but let's be honest, there's very little variety in those and usually what people care about is being able to change your switches once they start double-clicking. Which, again, wouldn't be a problem if companies like Logitech stopped cutting corners on absolutely everything on their $100 mice and when it happens, it's just two pins to de-solder, and you should have some basic soldering skills and know how to fix shit on your own instead of forever being a slave to the corporation's whims.

I have a ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro. It's a decade old now. There was times when it started double clicking, I just clean it with a manual air pump and alcohol to fix it.

But now it has multiple double clicking/not clicking switches. I just bought a cheap Logitech keyboard.

What should I do with the ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro. I could replace/solder the bad switches, but I don't really have time for that.

I used the macro keys at work before AI took my job.

What >>109012184 said, best to get a USB DAC with a hardware volume knob. Then you keep your system volume at 100% and have a hard limiter on the DAC itself, it's a better way to do it IMO. You won't get your ears raped if some program or your OS decides that your volume should be at 100% for whatever reason, and you won't have any issues with barely audible audio on recordings or screen shares.
>>
FiiO's USB DACs are ideal
but check out portables similar to the Lotoo Paw S1, nothing less than that
the S1 is S tier I fucking love it

A good piece of audio hardware deals with filtering the mains power on it's own without needing a dedicated power supply to do the filtering for it, everything else is just snake oil that acts upon psychoacoustics rather than actual technical measurable improvement.

Yeah. You hand money over and you get a decent keyboard ottb. I have a K8 Pro that was pretty great considering it was only $140. Just got a Q3 and honestly double the price for their full metal keyboards doesn't really make sense to me. If the K or V series is good enough for you, then that's that.

No helpful recomendation on the DAC as I use Focusrite stuff, but I've never really seen the point of USB equipment when doing a full XLR/6.35mm setup isn't much more expensive but is far better for scalability.
>>

>Impact when bottoming out is too harsh, feels like I'm destroying my fingers as plastic smashes into plastic with no cushion
>Surprisingly loud
>Long travel time; makes typing feel tedious while also being too sensitive because fingers are moving more and slamming harder than membrane
>Too scared to try other switches because this was already an expensive keyboard (imo, since I normally never spent more than 20-30 bucks on membranes) and don't want to waste money on another switch I might not like which might need extensive testing time
>Testing the keys/keyboard at the store wasn't a long enough testing time; issues with typing didn't pop up until I used it for a good while
