Very messy right now, in the middle of painting the upstairs hallway. After that is done I'll have time to finally paint the game room. Thinking of Sherwin Williams Retreat if anyone has strong opinions on color i'd like to hear them.

Also, feel bad for you guys that lost your space for kids. I foresaw that issues when my wife and I were looking at houses. I'd prefer a finished basement but settled on a 5 bedroom house. I took the smallest bedroom for my gameroom, gave the middle rooms to my kids.

When we move in a few years i'm insisting on a finished basement to turn into my space.

For my first kid I moved my office to the unfinished side of the basement in the cluttered storage area with the sub pump and spider bros. For years it was like that until I had some money to finish the area. Now its a fully finished office, very comfy. I built a stained and varnished cherry wood container that covers the sub pump, put at crt tv on top of it, and drywall everywhere else. A closet hiding the softener and gun safe. Its very comfy in there now and I am very happy and I got a nice couch in there with two desks, my server rack and a 55" tv, a fridge, and programmable pot lights. One day I'll post a pic.

Looks like there might be a woman in the environment given the adornment of the walls, not efficient cognitively. Nothing to manage reflections behind the speakers. I question table top height unless that desk was custom built it’s almost certainly too high, use an ergonomic calculator in that case and adjust whatever it suggests for table top height to keycap height, that’s generally what matters. Can’t identify chair, consider one with forward tilt. Get nylon dust filters for the desktop.
A fucking candle? Really?
>>109011597
Looks pretty good. You seem like enjoy music consider correcting the speakers with an inexpensive measurement microphone if you have not already. Steelcase leap are generally economical if purchased second hand but I would suggest an aeron remastered or mirra 2 fully loaded. I am not seeing any issues, the over decorated space kind of bothers me honestly. Looks like you know how to use an ultra wide. At the moment best in slot displays appear to be a single asus 4k 240hz with bfi oled and portable oleds in portrait on both sides and a lg c5 42 or a gaming rebrand for mixed use and media until solved HMD hits market in hopefully less than 10 years.

This is generally how it looks when I appreciate it. Have to consider user perspective compared to cameras. I would like to calibrate the display next, get volume validation for my headphones potentially if I can’t do it with math and establish a pipeline that is effortless enough as the headphones can output 130+ decibels.

>You seem like enjoy music consider correcting the speakers with an inexpensive measurement microphone if you have not already.
I don't have a umik, though I do have an AVR with Audyssesy in the living room where most of the music listening happens. This Leap was indeed economical, paid $200 at a liquidator. We have Aerons at the office and I don't like mesh chairs. I might be tempted by an Embody if it had "4D armrests" like my Leap. I know I'm behind the times with my monitors, but I just bought a Sony OLED TV. It's gonna be a while before I drop more money on screens.

>>109011891
Called it on the leap. If you’re happy with it and money is relevant then use it forever. If you want forward tilt and don’t like mesh for some reason then consider office master. It is upholstered so you will have to either clean it or reupholster it eventually but their best mechanism is good, maybe as good as Herman miller. I have not used one in person.
If it matters to you there is no need for a umik though that’s what I purchased, there are genuinely inexpensive measurement mics.
This all boils down to how much you care, I will spare nothing for any objective upgrade to my home computer. Doesn’t matter if it’s oled, perceptible improvement in motion clarity or enjoyment of private audio, forward tilt even if I may not use it, ergonomics, etc. a mindset thing, an operator is not going to tolerate an inferior rifle if a better option exists assuming obtaining the upgrade is not strictly self destructive in a way that matters.

yeah I wanted to keep even just a small multiple purpose desk in there so I could work sometimes in his room while he plays, but my wife didn't want that because she wanted him to have more play space. And it's not worth the battle, so into the closet I go.

It’s a precision pointing and mousing device that I use to mouse around guis and scroll through web pages. Ignore the other reply, aim games are solved. It weighs 23 grams or something and makes everything else feel like trash that is not genuinely ergo. A Logitech g pro for example or a razer viper, the two most standard mice on earth amongst who the fuck ever “gamers”, will not fill my palm so why in the fuck is there anything behind the buttons? To allow for a battery? No because they’re products and products are generally for average people or an average at the very least. Also it was made by two brothers in Germany who I decided I wanted to support as I liked what they were doing. Uses a drone MCU too which is kinda sick.
I have played an aim trainer with it at least once and have used it in both doom and warframe.
Does not have that many hours on my desk until lately.

kek yeah I've been here since the migration from Something Awful (2004?). I actually prefer the slower pace, for a while there 4chan was too fast for me on a lot of boards.

The AV rack is in then I have a smaller network rack, but I'm swapping that for a 12U because I'd like to move the NAS over there and make some more room in the AV rack (which runs the whole house AV basically, I just have no place else to put it). Obviously will work on wire management.

Next need to get a desk top made and installed. I ordered a different dog crate that has a side door that should make the crate situation more tolerable... but, yeah, gunna be a tight working space but will make the best of it.

>>
>>109029043
Yeah, I can understand that. I got the golden handcuffs of a sub 3 percent mortgage rate. Not only do I want a bigger house but I also my house is in the suburbs. Don't get me wrong, for the right family my house is great but I'm a country boy at heart. I have another 3 and a half years on my work contract. After that we are moving to rural Montana or Wyoming, something like that.

Love my room setup but it's packed tight and I have a bunch of stuff in the basement and garage because I lack the room. I had to give up my dedicated retro computing setup due to lack of space. Can't wait to get that up and running again after I move.

Either way I'm taking it all out to paint and so some repairs on the walls plus run some more cat6. What setup is yours?

>>
>>109048692
I hate the speaker placement in the living area but I'm struggling to find a better suggestion. One of those it is what it is situations. I think I'd probably just find some speakers that stood out less so it looked less shitty but maybe not even worth the bother since you're single and when you find some broad she'll want something different anyways.

>>109048748
Those HTD speakers sound great and i'm hard pressed to want to replace them. My only regret is I wish I got them with the walnut veneer over the black ones I got. My only issue with the current setup is I don't get great stereo separation but this is my living room and its mostly used by my wife and kids.
>>
>>109048878
The speakers are fine, the placement is just not ideal. The left and right are too far inward, they should be farther out, and obviously they are mounted too high. The horn loading making a narrower dispersion helps you a bit, but, it's not ideal.

But there isn't a great work around, it's a wide angle lens so kinda hard to tell the distances but there isn't a practical place to widen the L and R placement. Ideally would like to see 22-30deg from centerline (44 on the narrow side, 60 on the wide side) at the main listening position.

Also, you have monitors to the side so you are turning your head, not face on

>>
>>109072876
>>109072887
First of all, i think you have an amazing setup.

Second:
I can't really figure out what you mean with "not comfortable".
You talk about the chair?
Or the chair to desk height ratio?
You mean the two monitors and the laptop placed ergonomically wrong to you?
Maybe you mean the loudspeakers not being placed hidden?

I can't really tell if the desk is height adjustable from the pictures. At least i don't see any panel with up/down buttons and such.

Generally i would recommend you to consider two or three identical monitors.
Since you have two of different aspect ratio and resolution, i think you know which one you prefer. Buy a second one or even two additional ones of the same.
Get a strong and sturdy Vesa-Mount stand or build your own one with either box section steel tubes, a welding machine and such.

If you don't have access to a welding machine or a workshop at all, go for aluminium extrusion profiles.
There are all kinds of parts and accesories available for these to build a perfect tailor made vesa mount stand from them that fits your needs. Dual or triple monitor ... no problem with this.
You could even add loudspeaker extenders onto each monitor arm to position the loudspeakers above the monitors and make the entire construction height adjustable, so the loudspeakers always rise if the monitors do.
The entire desk can be built from these extrusion profiles.
Just migrate the tabletop over to the new "foundation".

The cheapest option is to buy one from Alibaba.com
see pic related
>>
>>109073303
I think the lack of comfort comes from a mix of the things you mentioned.

The desk can be raised, the position its in is the lowest setting at 30in which feels about 4in too high. But this might also just be an issue with my chair+posture? I can't really tell, I feel like I would prefer a literal car chair to the secret labs gaymer throne

The monitor on the left has a built-in virtual KVM allowing me to switch between the PC and Mac while still using the same M+KB. I think it might be time to get a dedicated KVM. This would allow me to change out the left monitor with something that fits better, and pursue the vesa mount setup you mention

As for the speakers, perhaps they should be mounted directly on the wall flanking the window. Would like to allow light in the window block it with a shelf -- but then how would I route the cabling for these? Currently they run under the desk with some rubber adhesive cable management things

While the desk can be raised to standing-level, the cables to the tower are a limiting factor. I've looked around for some kind of desk-mounted-basked solution but the stuff I see online looks like cheap chinesium trash. The desk is some kind of particleboard which, I would much prefer real wood or something that won't disintegrate when I drill into it when trying to build out a dedicated mount.

>>109072876
like others said, get vesa mounts for both monitor and speaker(above monitor). i recommend getting those reinforcement plates so your desk has less risk of getting fucked up. remove the 'desk-table', slightly raise the monitors so you can shove that macbook/mixer underneath. now you have a much larger deskplane. to mount those speakers, i used velcro tape and it was pretty solid. if you're paranoid, wrap a tightening band around it.

remove the pc from that position, seems you're unable to stretch your legs. it would fit in the back right corner, on the other side of your desk leg.

the gaming chair is actually relatively new, purchased after the old chair started contributing to lower back pain. I don't know how to shop for chairs, everything seems priced to orbit the moon. The (new) gaymer throne was cheaper than some (used) herman miller product. I probably didn't look hard enough but needed something in a pinch, I sit here ~16 hours a day for work and after. Still, the best chair I've ever had was some hand-me-down junk when I was 16. That thing lasted nearly a decade

if a chair is enough to cause health issues for you, you're a lazy fat/emaciated piece of shit. work back and core. ergonomic chairs are only needed by people who have prior injuries, not people who are lazy peices of shit. proper posture (incl. arm/neck/wrist) on a wooden stool is just as healthy for you as any ergo meme chari if you aren't an absolute slob with nonexistent core strength.

Well done. It will depending on your height adjustment free up space under the display.

In terms of chairs:
I bought Secretlabs NeueChair about 6 years ago. It's a mesh equipped ergonomic chair with an Aluminium exoskeleton.
Additional to the chair, i bought the headrest also. Best decision i made.
I'm 1.80 Meters tall with long legs. So i'm borderline tall for this specific chair.
It's almost like the seat surface itself is a bit too short for my looong legs.
I had to adjust this on the max forward position to halfway fit my legs.
Backrest is perfect and has a lumbar support, especially combined with the headrest that is super adjustable

But i'm sure, a used Herman Miller will be a good if not a better option too.
Gamingchairs are a meme, and there are only a few really good models on the market.
I think that's the reason why many changed to ergochairs that previously had gamingchairs.

Whenever I look at my setup like this I feel like the empty wall needs some decorations and/or wall clock or something, maybe a small monitor or tablet running some clock screensaver.

>what's with the x-box-hueg microphone honey?
>oh that old thing? have had it for a year now, was waiting for the right time to set it up, it's not bad

maybe then I will also have the confidence to use it in video calls
>>

The mic arm is nice. I'm probably buying one as well.

Yes, it's quite nice, although I am now also comparing it with the elgato desk stand, and maybe it's actually the better choice. I guess it depends how frequently you intend to use the mic
>>
>>109098540
isn't it awkward right next to your right arm? I would put it on the other side, behind the monitor so that it's not in the way when unused
>>
>>109098540
The arm looks miles better than the stupid stand honestly. Also really like the color.

It's not really long enough to put on the other side of the table. The only correct position is either on your right or your left. As I am right handed the right hand side seems logical.

I think the table stand is appealing in the sense that is seems easier to store away when not used, but if you are going to use it everyday the arm seems like the correct choice. Just the downside is then I can't hide it from my wife any longer

Yes. I am going to test drive it for a week. I got it from Amazon so it's probably sneaky refurbish anyway, there was a good discount but it seems without defects.
>>
>>109098315
>I'm probably buying one as well.

It's probably the best option out there at the moment, but I want to warn you that the finish of this product is very rough, and not what you'd expect for the price. Nevertheless I don't see a better alternative, even if price were no object, you have OC white but that looks like ass
>>
>>109098620
>It's not really long enough to put on the other side of the table. The only correct position is either on your right or your left.

just want to add: the whole point of a mic arm for me is improved ergonomics, compared to a desk stand where you have to lean into your table to reach it. Positioning the arm too far away from it defeats the purpose.

Why is your desk in front of your bed? So you can watch Tyrone rail your wife while you play Roblox?

anon i got downvoted for being depressed over getting dumped, because i was 3% resentful of what she did in my post (she ditched a 7 year relationship without a proper grownups breakup or explanation). reddit is a pack of hateful anuses posing as good people, while clutching their pearls over your political incorrectness for misgendering the guy who raped your daughter.

that's my problem with those, when I'm on a work call I don't want to look like a radio host.

>>

>>
>>109099372
Yeah, it kinda sucks, because I did a test recording today on microsoft teams, where I compare the microphone to my "high end business headset", and the difference is night and day, the microphone has a much superior sound quality, regardless of the fact that microsoft teams compresses and downgrades the audio quality
>>
>>109099458
I don't know micphones that well, but could you get something like a shotgun mic that could be out of frame so you could have nice audio but not look like a streamer?
>>
>>109099372
>>109099458

I did 3 tests on the microsoft teams recording
>sm7db microphone inside of the webcam shot, about 10 cm from my mouth --> great sound
>sm7db microphone just outside of webcam shot, about 15-20 cm from my mouth --> still very good sound, but definitely not as good as when closer
>Jabra Engage 50 ii ("high end business headset") --> muffled sound, not even close to the sm7db imho, but of course it's "acceptable" if the bare minimum is ok for you

now regarding video calls, I think I will start using the sm7db just outside of the frame, it sounds better than the headset, and headset make you look like a call center cuck anyway

maybe eventually I will lose my inhibitions and use the microphone in shot, it doesn't look worse than a gay headset imho, but sounds miles better to the discerning ear
>>
>>109099486
I think you could, but since I already have this mic, I kinda wanna use it. I wish more people would do it, so it wouldn't seem like such a big deal. I've never seen someone in a real life business meeting use a big microphone, usually it's either headsets or ass-quality sound from laptop microphone
>>
>>109099486
>>109099498
but from the little research I've done, getting great results from shotgun mics requires a lot more effort in room treatment and you will still get a less good result than with the upclose black dildo mic without room treatment. not sure if true, I never tried shotgun mics

I need better lighting for Zoom and stuff, my cuckbox just has an overhead light so I look like I have AIDS.

I think you can look into a better lighting solution to add to the ceiling. I also still need to do that

Relatable, I decided not to worry about it and take each day as it comes. Future looks fucked up but not much we can do. Retraining is a meme for the most part.

the problem is all downlighting generally doesn't look good, you want to layer it. like a lamp or something lower.
>>
>>109099638
I have a live in girlfriend and kid and will say it's a very different life, you need to make sure any girl you get with allows you some personal space. if you've ever seen the boomer memes about working on their truck or tools in the garage or whatever, that all actually stems from if they didn't have their garage they'd go insane.

i'm over 30 anon, and i need a woman in my life. i did everything right, maintained a job for over a decade, and accumulated some respectable savings, but the concept of having to support a family, being the sole provider and losing income scares the shit out of me. i don't want to hurt people who rely on me for support because of things outside my control.

>I have a live in girlfriend and kid and will say it's a very different life, you need to make sure any girl you get with allows you some personal space.
can relate. my family drops in once a week, nephew and niece hover around me and demand attention every 90 seconds. i can barely fart or lie down the entire time they're here. i don't actually want children of my own, but potential future wifey wouldn't appreciate that.

lucky you. any tips or words of encouragement to delve into something that might end in financial ruin and tears?
>>
>>109099902
Why even live if it might end up in financial ruin and tears? My wife and I have had tears together but never financial ruin. I gotta say from a strictly financial position, marriage has been great for us.

I'm 38, and you are very right to have those fears, women are a huge financial liability, a constant financial drain as well as a ticking time bomb. But in the end we all die, so I dont know, there is no end game in life

just don't get married and stay out of states that consider you married after cohabitation. even if you have kids, worst comes to worst you pay child support which has a limit to how bad it can get...but alimony there is no limit to the pain. don't financially commingle either, don't buy a house with someone, keep shit separate. no matter what you'll get pressured to get married, but just remember you are entering a legal contract with someone with the government out of "love"... think about that. lots of people live their lives together now that don't get married, it's a minority still but it's getting more common. and don't let them convince you the "tax savings" make marriage worthwhile, in total cost it will statistically not.

>>109099865
I think with my tall ceilings it might be difficult but I'll look into that. It is nice not having stuff on desks, less clutter, but I do think a lamp will help me fill in some shadows.

I not legally married, we only did tribal marriage in my wife's home country. She also doesn't officially live in my home. That way I can theoretically change the locks when she's out and it would be finished and done. But I don't think it would be that simple in reality

A whopping $950.

Please, tell me where a 8k TV costs under $1000.

Speakers need a few feet of air all the way around them otherwise they will echo off of any surfaces and completely fuck up the frequency response.
>>
>>109033994
4cuck be dying that's why, thanks gookmoot
>>109048692
what in the hell is that speaker placement... you do have the nicest floors I have ever seen in an american's house I must say
>>
>>109101600
A lot of speakers really benefit from being actually flush or against a wall to combat SBIR, or even flush which is what baffle walls do. If the speakers are ported, which probably that Klipschslop are, then they do benefit from either being plugged or pulled out a bit (but they are out far enough in that photo). My gripe with the placement is that they're horizontally too narrow, so the soundstage is collapsed, and vertically placed too high, so the sound is coming from above.

One fix would be to mount the L and R farther out, but there isn't a practical way to do that. They should also be lowered, but there isn't room. His wife and kids use it anyways so whatever, I'm sure it works fine for what it is.
>>
>>109101664
Not sure what you are asking about with my speaker placement? Speakers don't fit next to the TV in the space so I just put them above and aimed them down.

Floor is original to my house which was built in 1910
