>What's that? You wanna print something?
Fuck you. I'm out of ink.
>Can I buy generic cartridges for half the cost?
No. Fuck your wallet. You will buy the Epson brand or I won't recognize the new cartridges.
>I know this wifi password is correct, why do you keep saying it's the wrong password?
Because, fucko, I can't talk to a 5G router. I need 2.4, so you're gonna interrupt your busy day to adjust your router settings and set a network up just for ME.
>SURELY you're ready to print this contract right?
60 pages? That's bold of you bitch. Paper jam. Suck my printer head.
>What's with all these lines on these prints? I can't present this contract.
You're gonna have to clean me now. Also all that paper is now wasted because fuck you.

I could go on. Who else hates these things?

I have an old one, upgraded with some weird chink infinite ink kit. Although these epson fags went as far as including printed pages counter and would simply lock out the entire printer and demand you go to their service and pay them for cleaning ink sponges.
I did the cleaning manually several times, it take like 10 minutes to undo two screws and flush the thing with water, since my cartridges use water-based ink.
So Epson wants to sell me single use (why?) sponges for $100 or something. Warranty is long gone, so it makes no sense if they pretend it is to guarantee I don't break it and demand repairs. They are not going to do shit for free anyways, it's over 10 years old.
There are also some jeets that got firmware to flash the printer with zeroed counters, but they also demand money. Seems like I will have to reverse engineer this shit, because I'm not paying these faggots who probably got their software for free from some obscure chink website and trying to sell it.
>I fuckin hate printers
Understandable.
>>
>>109014950
>You will buy the Epson brand or I won't recognize the new cartridges.
Doesn't happen on my Canon printer
>Because, fucko, I can't talk to a 5G router. I need 2.4
Never happened on my Canon printer because it doesn't require or even have WiFi
>60 pages? That's bold of you bitch. Paper jam
Never happened on my Canon printer
>You're gonna have to clean me now.
Never had to on my Canon printer
>I could go on. Who else hates these things?
You sound insufferably autistic and tech illiterate. Why are you on /g/ if you're gullible enough to buy a printer that doesn't respect your rights as a customer?
>>
Should I get a Brother laser printer to replace my old Epson printer?

I have an HP printer, it ran out of ink, I put a new carton on, it says that it has 0% ink and always tells me to put more ink, yet it still prints everything I tell it to
Don't even know how that works.
>>
1) Stop buying the first price, the more you spend on the hardware the less you'll spend on the ink / toner / consumables. Grab your calculator or an Excel sheet, and do the math for 5 years and 10 years of ownership.
2) Brother laser monochrome printer/MFP is the answer 99% of the time.
For the last %, how often do you print ? If you print regularly, grab a ink tank, if not a laser model.
3) Install only the print driver from the manufacturer website, not the generic from Windows or the whole package with bullshit software etc.
4) Fix the IP in the printer settings or in your router/DHCP settings.
5) Take the time to check the default settings, sometimes they're good, sometimes not (the sleep timer for example).
>>
>>109016075
Unfortunately monochrome isn't an option in my line of work. When I print site and house plans a lot of them are required to be in full color when they're presented to the county for permit applications. Would be nice to not have to buy so much cyan ink.
>>
>>109014950
just get a laser printer?
>>
>>109016213
I assume it's in A3 and for work ? Time to go for a Pro / Enterprise model.
Epson EM-C8101 (or EM-C8100 if you don't care about scan speed from the ADF), or cheaper hardware (so higher ink cost) the EM-C7100 but I've never work on this one.
You can have them with a warranty of 8 years / 600k pages.
Brother have a small A3 ink, but I've only work on it one time, can't comment on the longevity.
Unless you absolutely need a toner (laser / LED / OLED) model (hint : no one need a toner model), you have a shit tons of models from the big boy (Canon Ricoh Kyocera Sharp Fujifilm/Katun) but I would not recommend them without a contract.

i was trying to help my gf's parents connect their printer to their new wireless router and realized the printer only supports WEP and WPA, not even WPA2. the printer doesn't have an ethernet port either and they lost the USB B cable it came with so the only way they can print now is by disconnecting from their own Wi-Fi and connecting to the printer's built-in access point. probably just gonna order a USB cable for them but still what a pain in the ass. i wonder if there's an easier way to connect it to their new router, there's no way i'm downgrading the security mode just so they can print

Only printer worth buying is a black and white laserprinter that has cheap ass toners for sale.
Brother comes recommended.

GL.iNet GL-AR300M16-Ex + USB-B male to USB-A male.
Or any OpenWrt with a USB port.
Connec the router to the WiFi, connect the printer USB-B port to the router, install the print package, and voila.
I do not have the script on this PC, but check this guide :
https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/services/print_server/p910nd.server

>>

Or if you don't want to tinker and want something built for this, SILEX TECHNOLOGY DS-700AC
I've used it to connect an MFP to two network.

yellow ink is required to print unique identifiers onto each printed page that are so thinly applied with yellow it's almost invisible to the human eye

Yes. Objectively best choice. Brother lasers are the only way to go.
>>
>>109016627
>>109016650
thanks, i'll probably just go with the GL-AR300M16-Ext and the USB-B to USB-A cable. the other one is way too expensive.

so i could just set up the mini router to basically act as a client that connects to their WLAN, right? i've never tried sharing a USB device over a network either but i assume it'll probably just work
>>
i forgot to mention they're using the modem/router combo provided to them by their isp, so there's not a whole lot of customization i can do on their router. i'm not gonna buy them a separate router and set up their existing one as a passthrough either, i don't want to have to help them maintain it and keep it updating. rather they just rely on their isp
>>
>>109016831
>>109016894
Yep and you'll send the print to the router that will forward it to the printer.
You configure the printer with this port, RAW 9100

You have nothing to do on the main router, just go in the settings and fix the IP of the GliNet router in the DHCP settings, or you can fix the IP in the GLiNet settings, do what your prefer.
>>
>>109016660
Is there a printer that does not do any of this spooky shit, and works great? Is there any like open source jail breaking of printers like it's for phones and ereaders?
>>
I love my old Brother laser printer. It's so old and shitty, it has no networking stuff onboard at all. Of course no DRM toner, either.
>>
>>109014950
>He got a typical injet printer instead of a laser printer
I'm retarded, but not this retarded.
>>
>>109014950
Buy a fucking laser printer. No need to "clean heads", no clogged ink, and toner cartridges have much more capacity than ink.
Preferably buy an old-ish used laser printer, there are rumors floating around that new laser printers have added draconian DRM on their toners, so instead of buying a $10 generic toner cartridge you're forced to buy the $100 (((genuine))) one
>>
>>109014950
buy an epson ecotank printer or a brother laser printer. you just fill the ink bottles or toner and you have years of uninterrupted productivity because at least on the ecotank the bottles don't have any drm. also if you're autistic enough you can always hook up a raspberry pi or some other computer to the printer through usb and let it work as a print server that you can connect through ethernet or any method of your choosing

>>109015012
these services always involve service employees selling elevated credentials to some russian or jeet then acting as a fixer to you so you can pass the digital locks for a price. at least xiaomi phones have firmware-level authentication that needs to contact a xiaomi server with an authorized service credential and you have russians and jeets acting as fixers to let you do repairs. the only exception is when a bootloader miracle exploit is found and it lets you break free but that's like winning the lottery and depending on the exploit it can still be patched away
>>
>>109018058
>buy an epson ecotank printer
Unless you print frequently, don't. Ink tank printers are very susceptible to clogging and forcing you to "clean heads". It doesn't waste too much ink, paper but not having a printer just werk whenever you need is a massive pain.
>>
>>109018089
i've had only one issue with mine after years of ownership and it was a paper sensor problem related to a bad paper jam. so far it just werks but that's because we use it fairly regularly. if you leave it unattended for months you're better off with laser printers. either way if i have to replace it i'm choosing a laser one
>>
>>109014950
skill issue.

brain issue.

you seem retarded anon. are you retarded?
>>
>>109016584
I think whoever made that cartoon is confusing Epson for HP or canon. HP inkjets would stop printing and make you replace the color in cartridge even if the black one was full and you just wanted to print text.

canon had a printer that was also a scanner and used the print head to scan with. if the printer was out of ink it would not let you scan.

the Epson printers I used and worked on would work just fine if they ran out of a color.

Best printer for color + laser?
Best printer for color + laser + a3?
I dont print often but when I do, color is essential

I smashed a dell all in one once and that was the end of an abusive relationship. Then I bought a Brother with a refillable system. The aftermarket ink was so shit that it kept clogging - sold it for pennies. Then I bought a Samsung laser printer and it still works after like 10 years or so.
>>
>>109016660
Monochrome printers can print the unique identifiers just fine using just black ink though
>>
Hp4240n. Got it at a hospital fire sale for exactly $5 about 10 years ago. Came with a duplexer too for double sided printing which was sweet. Monochrome only and barely use it, but a couple years into owning it I had to finally replace the toner after I used up the couple hundred pages it had left. Bought a no name brand off amazon with good reviews for $30 or something, works great and continues to all of these years and hundreds of pages later. Also just werks over wifi both on computers and phones, unfortunately need external HP drivers but they're still available from them and easy to get and their android app still supports this ancient thing without issue (though the stock print spooler will work with it, it just offers less control and options than the HP app) so it is what it is. 10/10 would recommend.

>>109014950
Probably 10 or 15 years ago, I bought the cheapest laser printer on slickdeals that accepted generic toner. I was waiting for a deal on a Brother printer, but I needed to print for school so I got a Canon.

It's fucking awesome. Wifi so I can put it anywhere, duplex printing is very useful, and a twin pack of toner is $35.
The driver situation was weird. Only the drivers from the CD would actually work, not the ones from Canon's website.
>>
>>109015202
I used to main a brother mfc. It was reliable, cheap generic ink cartridges were easy to find, ultimately it died when I knocked the table it was sitting on over in an autistic rage moment. I replaced it with some canon mfc that was on sale at the time and God I miss my brother. The canon has been nothing but problems from day one.
>>
>>109018058
>these services always involve service employees selling elevated credentials
In my case it's security by obscurity, afaik I can flash firmware no problem, change counter values etc, but I have to know what exactly I change. So I believe it can be reverse engineered. You read the memory, do some prints, read memory again. See what changed and where, figure out how values are encoded, what is max and min etc.
It will probably take a solid day of my life to set up all this shit and go back and forth.
I hate Epson.

get an ecotank or a monochrome laser printer boomer

Thankfully I don't actually find myself needing to print things often enough to need a printer around me.
But I used to work with them at jobs and they are indeed the devil's favorite technology.

Yes.

Brother is the only printer commercially available that is not e-waste. The rest youll pay more over your lifetime replacing.
