There is no reason for anyone to be mean to you my friend. Xubuntu is very comfy and your desktop is clean and functional.
>>
>>109016074
Damn that's an old PC. Respect for running Linux on that. 4 gigs of RAM should be okay, just make sure you enable zram.
>>
>>109016123
Holy shit. I didn't even see that Sempron. Amazing that's still running. Had a very cheap Presario with a Sempron back in 04. Overheated and shut down at least once a month under heavy load, even with my thorough cleaning routine.

>>109016074
Honestly, you'll fare better with something like MX Linux. Xfce is the default, and you can easily purge systemd to go full sysvinit. You'll notice 200-300 MB RAM is freed up compared to Xubuntu, Linux Mint Xfce etc... If you're willing to go without Xfce, then a distro like AntiX will shave off another couple hundred MB RAM. Worth it IMHO. That being said, if you're comfy with Xubuntu and don't mind the overhead, no reason to fix what isn't broken for you.

it's a bash script. It calls a program to dump the at-the-moment desktop to a picture, runs a program to tile the picture on a plane in 3-space (yes I remember my high school trig) with a randomized camera angle and renders it as a picture, then passes that output to a wallpaper-setter program.

With that machine, it's got a larger display and higher resolution. I bought my Thinkpad T14S Gen 1 off eBay for $150 and just about after the seller's return policy ran out, someone gave me a LG Gram 17. So I have a 10th gen i5 Thinkpad with a 14" dim as fuck 1080p 60Hz touchscreen ips, and a 10th gen i7 17" ultrabook with a bright as fuck 2560x1600 60Hz ips panel that weighs the same as the Thinkpad. Both magnesium chassis, both 16GB DD4 3200, both gen 4 NVMe m.2 SSDs, both with a microSD slot, and both with less than 50 cycles on the battery. Only reason I kept the Thinkpad is the LTE SIM slot, so when I go out I pop the SIM out of my router and toss it in the Thinkpad since I live in a rural area where the options are 5G or StarLink for home Internet and tmo is $40 for unlimited. Anyway, fucking ADHD rambling. Faggot new doctor took me off Vyvanse so my comments turn into faggot blog posts. The reason this screenshot probably looks better is the higher resolution not making everything look cramped as fuck. That's why it's my main dev machine

Isn't Safari like insanely faster than Gecko, and even Chromium in some cases, why not use it?
>>
>>109022458
I don't know, the only times I use Safari is when I am on the go because it's better on the battery.
>>
>>109022458
IIRC chrome is the fastest browser on macOS according to benchmarks. Safari is lighter on resources but if you have a lot of extensions enabled it hogs just as much memory as chrome or FF.

I've bounced back and forth between Redcore and Pentoo (both gentoo based). I also tried installing gentoo itself, but the youtube tutorials on it are crap. I always forget to mount the boot partition or fail to configure GRUB with it properly. I'll install gentoo with the manual this weekend, maybe.

I'm pretty experienced with literally every other part of gentoo. /etc/portage/make.conf, kernel make build, package.accept, package.unmask, etc.

FUCK THE STUPID TUTORIAL NIGGERS on YT. They always deviate from the manual and do some retarded coonjobs when it comes to GRUB

Anyways, I'm dual booting Redcore and Windows (mostly just to play Destiny 2)

Is kitty actually good or just bloated shit for normies? Does it have any actual killer features? I use foot right now, am I missing out?
>>
>>109025202
stick with foot. kitty has dogshit font rendering, uses up 150mb of ram per terminal open, and has no notable features besides image support (which foot already has). It's bloated dogshit, I have no idea why anyone chooses to use it.
>>
>>109025202
Kitty is mainly used by sexhavers. If you do not have sex or want to have sex on a regular basis you should look into other terminals or keep using foot.

Replace the desktop environment with Hyprland and Quickshell. Then vibe code your own custom desktop into existence piece by piece. You can make another session for it so that you can always go back to your current setup if you have actual work to do and your new riced out desk is incomplete.

that's not a good technique, it's best to actually use the rice you are working on so you can spot shit that needs improving or things you'd like to add
>>
>>109025704
Of course but let's say you design your own WiFi GUI or whatever and suddenly in some specific scenario on the go it doesn't work correctly and you can't connect to a network. Are you going to spend time debugging it or are you going to switch to what already works so you can keep doing whatever you were doing and fix it later when you have time? Annoying things like that happened to me a couple times while I was in the process of making my own rice. If you're an unemployed NEET you may not have to rely on your laptop working as much.
