I'm 38.

At this point of my life/career, I have so many friends working corporate W2 jobs making $200-400K/year (mostly in NYC/NJ/PA corridor) who just don't actually work that much.

One friend makes $250K as a manager at a biotech... all he does is send pictures of his chicken coop or other DIY projects all day during the week.. no idea what value he actually provides his company.

Then there's my "jiggler" friend who you might recall... guy makes $250-300K and just plugs a "mouse jiggler" into his laptop and just goes to the gym, homeschools his kids, tans, does yard work... all day. I ask him what he does and he can't even articulate it...

Another friend makes $150K at a remote startup and just travels around the world all the time... don't ask don't tell situation on where people are at any given time... but does seemingly little actual work.. maybe 1 hour a day.

This is truly what's going on out there... BS W2 jobs all over the place. And AI is a bubble?

Really?

yeah its a bit weird. i've made, let see... 3 commits in the last year? geez. ok i thought it was a bit higher than that but ok nevermind.

i was grateful when AI came out that it can do my work for me, but weirdly i haven't had the need to use it.

Stopped reading there. nobody asked or cares.

who your parents are, who you drank with in college, who you know and who you blow

thats all that matters in the job market we are forced to exist under
>>
>>109024955
that's not true. i care.

I know a guy in his late 30s (probably early 40s at this point) who recently changed jobs but for years he was getting over 500k/year and I think in his last year closer to 800k/year from a company you all know, one of the largest companies in the world.

He worked remote, played video games almost everyday, went on hunting trips constantly, spent time ding DIY jobs and going off-roading. Anything you can think of.

i (among others) tried to introduce the concept of the "WFHNEET" back in 2022, to muted reception. even normies are onto this! imagine that. NEETs are like, boomers now, lowkey kinda clueless.

i would take my motorbike for day-out local adventures so often that I got bored of it. think about that.

i always was surprised by my 'fortune', that nobody bothered me during my time away. but then it dawned on me, they are probably doing the same thing!
>>
>>109025304
anyway, i have every confidence the stock market is going much, much higher! LOL!

400k? That's nothing.
I sell my daily poop for $1mil each.
Some weird emo guy keeps buying them.
>>
>>109024654
They got lucky.
I'm two years older than you and bust my ass to only make $100k as a structural engineer.
I have to guide the new engineers as to what they should be focusing on with respect to their calculations, have to do calculations for the tricky/unique shit, have to design and sketch up unique connection details, have to coordinate with architects and MEP designers, have to help contractors come up with solutions to their problems and unknown shit that pops up in the field, have to make sure we're on track to have updated spreadsheets and design software ready for when municipalities adopt new building codes that change how we have to calculate things like snow drifts, wind pressures, seismic forces... I'm lucky if I only have 40 hours of work a week.

Cash what chips you have left so there's something for the disposal of your body.

I'm 41 and make £36k/$48k a year and I'm pretty satisfied. Married, 2 kids, 2 foreign holidays a year, £300k/£400k house, 2 cars, no debt other than mortgage. I dunno why people need so much money.
>>
currently cruising along doing nothing most of the day because the company can't afford to fire me and the project is nearly done.

doesn't bode well but i don't even care at this point

god damn it

What happened to make the internet originate from twitter instead of 4chan? Is it only because twitter unlocked the internet for normies?

Killing yourself is better than being 38. why would you live that long? death is much more peaceful. no more pain or suffering.
>>
>>109027624
you won't do shit and die of old age
>>
>>109027718
I'm still young. I won't live that long. I'm 27 and already starting to have health problems

and I'm already contemplating suicide if life doesn't go exactly the way I want
>>
>>109027728
27? Damn unc, you're long past your expiration date.

Do you think manager needs to manage shit 24/7? Being manager when things are good is chilliest job.
>>
>>109024654
Half of my company (Ticketmaster) got laid off from top to bottom while we are making a record profit. Everyone is now working 3x harder on 24h on-call. Don't you know AI is 5x your productivity? It would be really bad...if some hackers know we are short staffed and having none coders writing codes.
>>
>>109024654
Writing fiction like this is over bro. Did you hear about ChatGPT already. Might write this fantasy book you're trying so hard to project.
>>
>>109024654
Surprised they haven't been hit with layoffs, Big tech have a history of hiring people and then giving them no job to do, literally parking talent to deny them to competition.

My uncle had a laptop job that was pulling $900k/year for literally no work, as far as I could tell. All he did was read science-fiction novels and hang out with his kids. It was like a no-show job from the mafia.
>>

Kinda. Who you know, what you’ve done and if there’s a need for you if you ask me.
>>
>>109025854
I mean, it has been the case for few years now. Especially when the whole AI thing got overblown. 4chan as a whole is like this, but you can summarize the entirety of /g/ into AI generals, flame wars (likely generated by bots because its so repetitive), "this girl is a tranny", jeet this and jeet that. When you think about it there's literally nothing interesting here and if there's then it gets overshadowed by these shitty threads . We should just stop browsing this glow site.

I have a PhD in bioinformatics. My entire life (since before I had pubes) I have been aiming for a job in bioinformatics. I went through the tech path because I saw that tech is the part that is strongly lacking there and it could accelerate bio developments by orders of magnitudes. Force multiplier and all.
I can't find a single job in the entire world in bioinformatics. I managed to get one in the most retarded startup ever and I turned the entire startup around in 12 weeks. The CEO got scared of losing control so he fired the entire team and refused to use the tool we created (the best in the field to this day, years later) at the same time that a gold rush started for exactly that kind of tool, out of spite.
That was the only time I was able to professionally work in the field.
Before and since I was only ever allowed to do gay AI bullshit. I make about 100k now. I live comfy but I'd rather be borderline starving and be in bioinformatics. I am amazing at my job and everyone knows it and says it loudly.

And yet you have do-nothing friends allowed to get paid hand over fist to "manage" at "biotech"s.
This is the reason bio advancements are dog slow and will never get better by the way.

>what you’ve done and if there’s a need for you if you ask me.
Nope, absolutely nobody cares in even the absolute slightest way.
