Actually these people will often be right, in a broad sense. They will, for example, realize that programs are bloated and call them out. Perhaps the couldnt tell you exactly what to change to fix it, but they are still right.

There is a ton of on paper quite skilled programmers that still are in favor of objectively worse code, in both performance and ergonomics. Their incentives just don't line up with good results. Similar to how someone that works for a welfare office does not want there to be fewer people needing welfare, they actually want more welfare recipients.
