So wifi was better after all

For this to happen you’d have to be some thirdie on a copper connection that’s strung across a telegraph pole.Got fibre, or a buried cable like a normal, civilised person? Not gonna happen.
ethernet is supposed to use isolation transormers

Nobody tell 109030938 that fiber is also strung across "telegraph poles", he'll kill himself if you do.
>>109030938dude fiber is also strung across telegraph poles
>>109032140neither>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>109032156Telegraph still a thing? Also, I've never seen underground telephony cables anywhere outside of a few hyper urbanised areas
>>109032198>fiber conducts electricityholy retardation
>>109032214what kind of a shithole are you living in, almost half the country here doesn't even have proper sewage connection and our cables are in the ground
t. this dude
>>109030938a lightning strike can enter through the mains, hit your fiber's router, because it's plugged into the wall, and then travel through the ethernet cableless likely if you have surge protection but still possible if the lightning directly strikes your house
>he doesn't have lightning strike insurance
>>109032156Fiber is underground. The fiber to my house is underground. I work for a company that does underground fiber installations.
>>109032291the fibre to my house is above-ground. you see, it doesn't really fucking matter where the fibre is.
Does /g/ shut off their devices and pull the plug during thunderstorms?
>>109032449No. I'm well insured and lightning damage would actually get me new shit
Happened to me too, fried my ps5, switch, and computer after lightning struck a pipe in the street directly in front of my house. The sound was something else, I thought a nuclear bomb went off. There was just a crater in the asphault.
>>109032513I know its rare for it to get damaged but IF it breaks down it takes a whole lot of effort to replace it and get a new one. Not to mention the potential data loss
I have on of those in front of my DSL modem. Secures power and network port.
>>109032449I forgot what it's called but I got the shit that leaves the power on during an outage so I could give less of a fuck
>>109030898my surge protector wouldn't save me huh
>>109032555anon it probably struck the phone line
>>109032585I plugged in the phone line, but it isn't really phone anymore. It all was switched to VoIP a few years ago.
>>109032241>>109032198Post any example ever of lightening traveling through fiber optics. The chances of that would be the same as lightening traveling through garden hoses. No not plumbing.
>>109032576Im considering fiber optics from router now. Ive never done it, because performance would be insignificant and cost great, but it provide a safety buffer.
>>109032573Uninterruptible power supply
>>109032695It isn't that expensive with Chinese network equipment.
