Grass is greener mentality. Farmers dream of sitting at a desk making six figures and not going into debt because God decided you don't deserve rain. They don't realize you're at the mercy of lonely HR cat ladies and the slog of non issues people turn into issues which will literally kill you (mentally).Similarly IT nerds think agriculture is just a solvable math and chemistry equation when the reality is you're at the mercy of forces you will never be able to control.The reality is both are fun and fulfilling if you're already rich and can use money to smooth over the bumps. I'd assume he wants to retire in 5 years, go off-grid and do a little farming on the side to not go crazy. Most people need work, without it they literally loose their mind. But alas it's still stupid idea that you can actually do it. Land is expensive, now with all of the regulations (speaking for EU here) you cannot even buy proper fertilisers and pesticides without completing a 2-day "safety course" that is valid for 2 years. It's all shit, at least working white collar job I destroy my spine in a more pleasant way.
