How do you write an iso image to a USB drive? I have created several personality archetypes:
>dd of=/dev/sdb if=image.iso bs=4M
You are a pragmatist. However, you're stuck in your old ways and superstitions. You figure if something isn't broke, why fix it? Maybe once you've memorized something, you see it as precious and never bother to replace it.
Either that or every time you need to flash an image, you search "how to write iso to flash drive" online
>cp image.iso /dev/sdb
You're a rebel, nobody has ever told you what to do. In fact being told to do something just makes you want to do the opposite. You probably grew up with a rough family and had to learn to fend for yourself...
>sudo pv image.iso --sync -o /dev/sdb
You're extremely submissive and breedable. You are fit to bear my children, and will grow old as a happy and contented housewife(male).
>Balena Etcher
Faggot
>"Restore Disk Image" option in gnome-disk-utility (gnome-disks)
You have a huge IQ that is incomprehensible to most, you are probably employed and can easily find a job if you want. You don't care about distro hopping, you probably use Ubuntu and secretly find it satisfying that it makes people upset. In fact you just don't care, you probably think Windows and Mac are actually fine and you just use Linux on all your systems because you feel like it. When someone asks if you recommend Linux you just say "no."

>dd if=image.iso of=/dev/sdb status=progress

Yeah I'm probably the first one. This is the correct way of doing it and other ways are absurd. I would use a gui for it but usually when flashing a drive it's on a system I intend to wipe anyway.

Fedora Media Writer, simple as. Yes it works on non-Fedora isos.

anything else is gay

What if I told you there is another, far superior way?
>cat image.iso > /dev/sdb
This is what I always end up doing, but I suppose you accounted for this with the "cp image.iso /dev/sdb" archetype.

I just grab the iso image and put it inside Ventoy
What's my personality archetype?

Balena Etcher is a generation alpha thing
I've done it both with gnome disks and dd, nowadays I would just use dd. But I still learn new things all the time and keep an open mind

on linux, dd is also the forensically sound method of bit for bit copys. Using it when possible is typically the best option.

The cat command is racist against dogs. We trannies have taken it upon ourselves to change the command to dog in order to correct 400 years of systemic discrimination against them. You're welcome, HuwhiteChristianCisHeteroNormative MALE.

If it's just writing *whole* disk images this or tee are far superior to dd. Even sets the correct buffer size automatically. If anyone is curious I suggest reading 'the useless use of dd'.

rufus has some funny opinions about writing to usb as dd does it:

INTJ 5w4 Millenial. Balena Etcher because it works every fucking time, unlike the other methods that sometimes work and sometimes don't depending on the ISO for whatever reasons. I don't have the patience for something that may or may not boot because of some little arbitrary thing.

What is Fedora's problem, anyway? Why did it boot and start installing after using one of the CLI methods, after completely failing to boot after trying previous CLI methods and rufus and Unetbootin, then freeze at like 10% and refused to ever work until I used Fedora Media Writer? Whatever, it doesn't matter, I don't use it anymore (I use CachyOS now, btw).

You know what used to never fail to work? Actually burning ISOs to CDs and DVDs. Those booted every god damn time, I never wasted an hour or two on those trying to get an installation going or using a LiveCD to back up my files after Windows XP would self-destruct sometimes.

That is exactly how I see OP. Only a feminine person does this type of personality tests.
In fact something was happening in my pants while reading that post. I want OP to sit on my lap and give me suggestions while I'm installing gentoo. And I'm not even gay.
