RIP Kuketz. Mike Kuketz—the well-known data privacy expert and ally of the GrapheneOS developer team—has been exposed: for years, his forum had been collecting users' IP addresses and browser identifiers. So much for data privacy.
>>
Reminder Kuketz is a communist and probably supports the domestic terror group "Antifa" as well

wat? Am I missing something here? Literally every web server collects and logs that information. Unless the logs are explicitly turned off, which they might be for a high traffic website because collecting gigs of these logs is pointless.

semen found in balls type shit

>browser identifier
Literally any website does this
>collects
Meaning? Does he store them in plain text?

The irony of the whole situation is that Kuketz presents himself as a hardcore privacy advocate; he criticizes everyone, always and everywhere whenever they collect data. Now it has come to light that he does exactly the same thing himself. He hoards users' IP addresses not just for a few days, but for years! After this was exposed, he offered to reduce the retention period to "only" six months. However, users criticized him for this, as even six months is far too long and disproportionate. Kuketz portrays himself as a champion of the GDPR, yet he tramples all over it himself.

here is the original translation of the post:

I just made use of the "Export your data" function, which can be found in SETTINGS.
In the database, my personal IP addresses from sessions up until mid-2025 are stored, specifically in the file auth_token_logs.csv. This is called data retention and contradicts their own highly praised privacy policy, etc.; and it constitutes a data breach.
Normally, you would expect this to be under control—meaning that **ALL** stored IP addresses are actually rewritten to 172.17.0.1, which can be done using a basic script after X days.
I am also troubled by the timestamp being accurate to the second, which, if data minimization were actually intended, could also easily be neutralized to the specific day after, for example, 6 months via a script. Who is this data interesting for?
The same applies to the stored browser fingerprint/recognition. What for?
To me, it doesn't look like the admins have seriously thought this through, and consequently, there is no deletion concept or anything similar in place.
Very disappointing, I expected a lot more here

By the way, the forum has disabled the ability to register new accounts. That means you can only view the thread if you’ve already created an account there. They’re in full damage-control mode.
