No AI, phone or app will ever come close to the stark raving mad foaming at the mouth panic this humble device inspired back in the day.
Well maybe Snapchat. They're constantly running sob stories about that.

They were banned at my high school because of their association with drug dealers.

they were banned because teachers and headmasters are troglodytes
same reason why phones are banned today, despite them being integral to current day youth social interaction

My school had a shooting range so it was a based tradeoff. Pagers were gay.

Man it would be so nice if there was a complete production halt and worldwide ban of mobile phones. Beepers + payphones + internet cafes were so comfy growing up. Was able to avoid owning a cell phone for ~10 years of my adult life (until 2012), and there was a real luxury in being unable to receive calls while not at home or work. Everyone had to accept that they could only call me at certain times, and no emergency would change that. I called people back when I felt like it, and that was that. Now everyone and their mother thinks they have the right to talk to me all the time. Fuck this gay earth.

Only because you have a smartphone now, doesn't mean that the principle has to change. My phone is always on silent and I always call back on my terms. Everybody in my life accepted the fact that I'm not available 24/7

Pagers were never a thing outside the US. We went from payphones to nokia 3210s. Cellphones prior to that were a niche rich businessman thing

POCSAG is totally unencrypted you know. When I lived in Detroit I was able to pick up Canadian pager traffic with a RTL-SDR and there was all kinds of medical data in there from hospitals.

You don't need to do any (((social interactions))) outside the people at school while you're there.

wish OP weren't such a faggot and explained what he meant, but alas

I had a cellphone prior to that and it was quite a lot larger. You needed a big pocket to carry it, and it was heavy. Even modern phablets ain't got nothing on that, and they're much more useful.
Still better than finding working payphones.
