I've been sending YouTube links to my online friends through my "anonymous" Discord account for years without deleting the little code appended to the end of the link because I didn't think it'd matter all that much but apparently Google implemented a feature a few weeks ago that uses that code to identify the person who generated the share link and essentially dox them to the person or people with whom that link is shared.
So if you're signed into YouTube (which I pretty much always am) when you generate a link to share with someone outside of YouTube, that someone will be presented with a little message at the bottom of their screen that says, "Sent by [your YouTube channel name and handle]" accompanied by your pfp.

There was no notification that this feature was being implemented. I didn't even know about it until today because of a tweet I saw that mentioned it. My Discord friends know my real name and what my face looks like now. I've also posted these links to my blog and to various other website all under circumstances where anonymity was intended.

How fucked am I?
>>
they're remote viewers from the cia anon glowniggers can use your public google profile to dox you at the nsa too

Wait, but if you generate the share link, can't you see that it's longer than the regular url? We've known about those tracking urls for a while now, although I didn't know they were this intrusive. Is there any way to see that "Sent by [name]" without posting it to Discord? I'm not a big Discord user.
>>
>>109049834
Nope, they've added it to YouTube now. It's been that way for about two weeks as far as I can tell.

It's on by default and applies retroactively to links generated years ago.

very wise actually cuz google docs and google photos will literally put you in a list with everybody else who's ever viewed the document that is accessible to everyone who views the document unless you use incognito mode but if you're on mobile it'll just take you to the app regardless. google really loves doing people for no reason.

>>
>>109049806
That's what you get for not reflexively deleting trackers from links before sending them, the entire point has always been that the tracker part of the URL is associated with your account for analytics purposes. So obviously they could've always chosen to do this and they just didn't until now. Literally one of the first reddit-tier things I learned about on the internet was trackers in links, it's proper opsec to delete that shit, and if you weren't already doing it, you got what was coming to you. Anyways it's completely over, you lose. Any one of those people can just dox you now anytime they want, especially if you ever sent a link in a public server. Better luck next time.
>>
>>109049945
I just looked it up and apparently this doesn't happen for publically shared docs unless you're in the same organization or the link was shared to your e-mail address specifically. Still it doesn't feel right. If I absolutely need to I'll open it in an incognito tab
>>
>>109049979

it is wise to use a different computer or at the very least different local users for your work/real life stuff and for interacting with online goobers
if you are copying files or links from one to the other it *should* be tedious and you should think twice if you really need to cross the beams

plus use a vpn or something for one or both of them (different ones) so something that logs your ip publicly in both (irc for example) cant be correlated as easily
or even just some admin at a site you use seeing two different users from the same ip

i don't really get the doxing thing. at the end of the day is just some loser with no authority accusing someone of having this identity or frequenting some website. maybe it's more credible in the cases where some big twitter account dox themselves, but even then just deny everything. people irl are already predisposed to presume your innocence, they would rather lied to themselves than admit someone they know is a horrible person. unless they absolutely hate you, but then they will believe anything whether true or false. even if some tranny tracks down your boss and gives him a call literally just tell somoene's trolling you, falsely accusing you of a bunch shit, stealing your identity, etc. does anyone remeber the "laptop from hell" that was literally absolute irrefutable proof the the president's son was a crackhead, not only that but he was also crack his dead brother's wife and daughter with his huge cock, literally hundreds of pics with his nice looking at him with cockdrunk eyes. all of that and to this day not a single democrat was persuaded.

It's the opposite actually, this is how us autists think, but normalfags are constantly looking for reasons to boost themselves socially. If you do something that is socially unacceptable, no matter whether or not you are in their good graces, you are basically advertising that anybody can claim free social capital by ostracizing and condemning you, the only reason it doesn't apply to politicians is because political sides-ism is part of that virtue signalling instinct, but they won't hesitate to cannibalize you whenever they see an opening

you should assume this is always happening on every platform. any time i need to share a link like that i open the page in a separate browser that isn't signed into anything and copy the link from that. this should be your default behavior, it is basic internet hygiene. you should also be aware of referrer urls and copy paste links into new tabs instead of using hyperlinks. absolute day 1 stuff in avoiding their data collection on you.

Not him, but sometimes I send links of songs to people. When you copy the address from the context menu of the link in the search results, it includes tracking data. The options are
a) manually remove the suffix every time (I do this, but it's annoying)
b) click the link, wasting bandwidth on loading a page with tons of tracking scripts and a video that will auto download
c) keep the link as-is and get tracked

>IRL picture, always assume that there's a tiny reflection
There was an article about this from Bellingcat, I think it was a Russian hitman/spy don't remember was out on a stroll in a busy city center, bellingcat investigated when it was taken by what sign was being displayed in the background. Even having the sun in your picture is a good enough to figure out your general location.

can you post the links to check it out?

yeah I remember when I discovered that my favorites was public many years ago and was like wtf, people can see that I like conspiracy videos, set it to private and moved on

instagram does this; i didn't know about youtube. that's why I use a burner to follow certain accounts and send content to others.
>>
>>109058331
you can only turn it off by first downloading the app and signing in

I just tested this by clicking on my own share link in a private tab and I don't see my account appearing anywhere. Am I missing something? Tried it on desktop and mobile

does your gmail get shared? or just your youtube channel name? either way it's pretty gay, but whatever.
>>
>>109051424
I have some paranoia when sharing links that I always check it myself like you suggested first before sharing it.
>>
>>109059143
So I finally figured it out. It only happens when you use the share button in the youtube app. Doesn't seem to happen when you use the desktop site (I think). It's pretty in your face too, shows up like an annoying pop-up.
>>
>>109059244
Thank god I use pipepipe only. But let's not relax just now, google absolutely adds an &si= query string to links shared on desktop too, so they might just activate this shit there too.

I might do this occasionally to just check an email on an old email I used. Why are you doing this all the time?

People that talk on discord are not worth your time and are so tech inept they don't understand there are much much better alternatives.
>>
>>109049806

why did you use your real name for your google account, anon?
>>
>>109050034
Because big data networks are crooks that want to steal your identity to frame you for crimes and keep you out of work so you don't have enough money to track them or so you're desperate enough you will be forced to do menial labour that never pays enough or is used to build your eventual replacement.
You starving to death is none of their business.

>is what they think

No, it's their name and face now. :^)

Biometric scanners are really fucking stupid. Not only does your body change over time, but also your DNA.
And systems generally have to be vague enough to allow for the fact that you might modify your body and features. Utterly useless.
>>

why would you use YouTube logged out? you can't make playlists or save videos to them, and your recommendations are going to consist entirely of political rageb8, AI slop and brainrot for toddlers.

>Google Docs and Google Photos don't keep logs of every visitor.
Explain to me why they wouldn't. It's effortless, just more data to be collected. Why would the not store it? Why would a data-harvesting company make an exception here? For what gain and purpose?
>>
>>109049806
>giving YT your real name and photo
>always signed into YT
>didn't remove a unique tracking ID when publicly sharing links from said account
Several mistakes in a row lead to this. At least you know now, hope you learn from it.
>>
>>109060928
As for me I had a dead end Smurf account unlike this guy. Never had my real name or info on my account and it was a dead account hardly used. No public anything. I also deleted it myself like some others before all this shit. If they click my old si links they'll go no where. Some of us saw the writing on the wall. Shame this idiot didn't think twice.
>>
>>109053209
They do absolutely keep logs of every visitor, but they aren't exposed to users.
>>
>>109059111
I did this and the option still won't show up.
I wonder if my account doesn't count as a "channel" since I dont have any videos and dont leave comments or if its because I dont have access to toggle thos privacy feature based on location
>>
Alright guys try to see if you can identify me:
https://youtu.be/OAo8qdcvhlM?is=bdZJWlf8mkKcMhvj
I want to know if OP is bullshitting or not. Here's the link without the tracking:
https://youtu.be/OAo8qdcvhlM?
It's just a random video, let's test OP's scenario I don't care if I get "doxxed".
>>
If you're on iOS you have to be careful because the url it gives you when you use the share button is an actual link, not just a url. So even if you delete the identifier on the text the identifier is still embedded in the href part of the link. You have to paste it in notes and re-copy the text without the embedded link. Wouldn't be surprised if Android did the same thing.
>>
>>109049851
dude chill almost no one knew about this..
>>
>>109060860
Irrelevant. Google can collect whatever data it wants. The point is normies using Google Docs or Photos do not see a log of people, signed or not, viewing their documents, photos, or albums.
>>109061262
>they aren't exposed to users.
That's exactly the point.
>>
>>109061689
>The point is normies using Google Docs or Photos do not see a log of people, signed or not, viewing their documents, photos, or albums.
Yet. But the data is there for it to be a possibility. Would be quite monetizable.
>>
>>109061620
Definitely never did on android
>>
>>109049806
Serves you right for using the share button instead of just copying the url from the address bar. And before you say something about it being more convenient, it's actually not. It takes two clicks to copy it from the address bar and three clicks to copy it using the share button.

It doesn't need to, it is purely rebranded Tor Browser without the Tor router. Tor Browser doesn't "clean the links" either. Coward users are using a browser which started life as an ad delivery platform. Cope.

I guess that Youtube might know from what app/site you are coming from and decides to tell you who shared it based on that? If you copy/pasted those link in private Discord server or other would it then tell you the name because it thinks its been given to you that way?

install vencord
it's a plugin handler for discord
just update discord, patch it with vencord, and if it's working you will see a "Vencord settings" category in the discord settings. if it's not working then another discord update is likely pending, so do that and patch it again.
then go to plugins and install clearurls
it automatically removes the tracking parts of URLs before sending messages even if your stupid ass has it on your clipboard and you're deliberately trying to send it with tracking

just be aware that vencord occasionally needs to be updated manually, so if you're actually an irl schizo it'd be better to just get in the habit of copying clean links

you can read through the list of hundreds of plugins but only the ones in picrel were of any use to me
>>
>>109072469
nevermind i read OP too fast and blurry eyed the details
still useful though

This.
This is much better than removing it.
Although, you should be generating realistic fake data rather than something easily scrub-able.
Or, look for an official youtube automated posting and use that one. They eff up all the time.
It’s not enough to block cookies, headers, use fake names, etc. you have to *poison* the data proactively.
Click on some of the links and make carts that have to be stored… things like that.
