What's the best alternative?
RIP Europes only tech company

there is none

digital ocean?
ovh?
self hosting?
the regular clouds?
plus krauts demand your passportdox for some autistic reason

Knock on the doors of every company in your city
Ask to buy their scrap PCs

Use case for more than an old desktop with 64gb ram running from your closet?
>>
>>109063618
>>109063318
People that do actual work is the use case, you wouldn't get it when your life revolves around sitting at home browsing /g/ and facebook all day.
>>
>>109063263
Probably digitalocean only because they're really cheap bastards and haven't done massive hardware refreshes. The performance is mid, but costs haven't changed outside of nonsense taxes in my state for cloud shit.
>>
>>109063618
throughput

>>109063669
this, it directly impacts how many users i can have

Biggest problem is networking. Business class ISP is probably more expensive than just suffering the 10 to 20 dollar VPS

This is true. Im pretty sure residential internet service is like $100s of dollars a month near me. Business speeds would be atleast that.
>>
>>109063206
ram and storage prices went up 5x, expect other players to do the same thing
>>
>>109063714
I mean, you can get 1gpbs in nonshitholes well enough, but your ISP may get pissy if you got a lot of "special traffic" on top of the fact your AS and IP will be poisoned as a resnet. Self-hosting at home is cool, but I can't imagine doing it for any site with real traffic.
>>
>>109063688
>Business class ISP is probably more expensive than just suffering the 10 to 20 dollar VPS
Shit, nigga, I got 10gb/s for ~$120 in switzerland
idk if I’m supposed to pay for some enterprise bullshit but I don’t and nobody’s bothering me about it

>>109063742
No. lEast Coast.

My shitty crud became popular enough to spike up to 40k simultaneous users and I run it off of a mini pc
by the time you need an actual box from a proper host with some measure of resilience you should be able to afford it without much issue
>>
>>109063757
what tech stack is your crud thing?
how do you run it on your mini pc?
I thought doing the same from an oldpc I got here which I don't use anymore and slap Coolify on it
>>
>>109063263
I wish I could do shared hosting. Buy a few used servers and set them up in a data center. But rack space costs in my city are so god damn high compared to some other places. Plus I don't have the servers, and I'd need to buy the RAM, which obviously is gonna hurt the wallet. I should have just bought all the god damn RAM 2 years ago. Luckily enough I bought 128GB of RAM for my desktop last year though, so I have that going for me I guess.

Hosting at home is out of the question cause I don't want to deal with residential ISP bullshit. Plus I don't have enough bandwidth anyway.
>>
>>109063757
>I don't do anything which requires actual compute so everyone can host things on a toaster
this hn-esque thing of "i turned my gameboy into a linux box hosting a barebones http server and i can do X users per second or something" gets a bit tedious
>>
ddr3 bros… our time will come
not anytime soon, but like, eventually
>>
>>109063707
so you have to pay a subscription per month PLUS usage per hour?
>>
>>109063618
>64gb ram
500 bucks just for that ram
>>
>>109063206
No god please no. Fuuuuuxk. I wanted to get a cheap server on there. I remember it was like 4$ per month then it became 5 now it's almost 7.
I hate AI niggers so fucking much it's unreal.
>>
aren't electricty prices fucking insane in germany? Why would i host there
>>
>>109063847
No, the per hour price is the actual price. The per month price is the equivalent cost if you were to use it 100% for the entire month.
>>
>>109063887
They have many locations, including e.g. finnland.
>>
>>109064035

Why do you feel the need to clickbait here? You don't get paid per click do you?
>>
Jokes on you, my hetzner server dedicated server didn't get a price hike at all.

>>109063263
>digital ocean?
>ovh?
Already 4x more expensive so no.
>self hosting?
Eh in some cases.
>the regular clouds?
Nope they are 5-10x the price of hetzner.
Especially for AWS and azure it can be 100x.

>>109064155
>>triples
Yep he just lied. The new prices are much higher than what I pay though.
>>
>>109064205
>>109064155
the first HN post i saw said they're tripling
>>
>>109064116
Surprised they didn't raise more. A lot better than hetzner now.
€170 for EPYC 9224/128GB/2x1TB, that's about equivalent to hetzners 7950x3D, just half the SSD.

I still pay €131 though.

>>109064232
>It seems like what's missing here is lower cost plans, because the existing plans had been fairly affordable, but now they're basically triple.
The least expensive one seems to be CPX11, old price $6.99, new price $20.49. That's 2GB RAM, 40GB SSD. RAM and SSD are now much more expensive, fair enough, but maybe I don't need all that for my mostly-idle VM, so then where's the plan with ~0.67GB RAM and ~13GB SSD for the old price?

Part of it is that they now give 2 vCPUs.

For lower cost plans there is still CX23, €7, same specs just older incel/AMD with more RAM. He just didnt check properly.

But they did raise it a lot in recent years, especially for dedis

There's always SAP, for people who like corps who try to be more evil than Oracle while also Best German Autistic.

Whenever I get tired of this place and start hating every single one of you all it takes is browsing any hackernews thread that deals with AI or capitalism and suddenly you retarded faggots aren't all that bad after all.
>>
>>109064948
it do be like that
>>
I have 8x 188GB/2x2TB servers paying like 100€ each. If they triple existing configs before this hike I will need to look at alternatives or scale down. Will suck for my own customers and my business.

i just use the always free tier of oracle

seems to be for new instances, existing ones have grandfathered pricing (for now)
praying i won't need to rescale before AIfags are publicly tarred and feathered

>>109063618
i do not wish to expose myh public ip to the internet or use https://github.com/fatedier/frp to protect it or pay for cloudflare spectrum

there's no way grandfathered prices will stay for long
>>
I think scaleway, OVH and vultr are still european and quite cheap, scaleway in particular is very cheap but their console is so fucking ass, login in is a 3 part operation.
If you're destitute feralhosting still offers shared servers as in you get an user account on a Linux server shared with hundreds of others.
>>
>>109064914
>>109065261
For the models you can still get, I think they will keep it for a while at least. But for older models I don't think they will ever raise it.

Eh if they do, I'll just move.

>>109066465
>vultr
>scaleway
Their VPSs were already the same/higher as hetzner after the price hike.

For dedis scaleway, ovh and especially contabo is now much cheaper than hetzner.

>RIP Europe
FTFY

The EU is more or less banning AI today.
After flooding its nations with natural retards and then turning its indigenous population equally retarded to ensure "social justice",
it now ensures, there won't be any artificial intelligence to make up for it.
>>
At what point do you just get a cheap VPS for the uplink alone and run your own server? Like I got solar at home so I don't care how old the hardware is, it pays for itself in less than 6 months at current hosting prices.
>>
>>109063887
it depends. For private consumers yes the prices are insane. For big companies its not that expansive apparently. Otherwise they wouldn't be building 40 new data centers around my city. Most of the cost are taxes which the big guys dont pay.

>The EU is more or less banning AI today.
I fucking wish you were right.
Most intelligent people would rather have AI banned.
I just wish the EU doesn't bury billions of € in AI datacenters right before the AI bubble pops.
