This is the first time I've ever talked about it. What's your problem with the sudden aggression?

bloat. txt files in a directory is all you need.

That's literally what it is you troglodyte.

ALL MY ONIONS NOTES ARE THERE.
So .txt and .md files with extra steps on the landmine js "apps" are...

how has nobody made an open source version of this yet?

you make it sound like there's a good open source alt to every closed app out there in the world, when in fact only very few small tiny fractional minority of open source apps are ever worth using

Most popular closed software has an open source alternative. The popularity and nature of obsidian makes it surprising that one doesn't exist here, yet. It doesn't seem that difficult. It's basically just linking .md files, right?
>>
>>109066249
obsidian is the digital equivalent of shuffling papers around on your desk. complete fucking waste of time. tricks you into thinking you are being so productive without ever actually getting anything done.
btw "second brain" is total horse shit. filing stuff away like this actively makes it less likely for you to actually remember it, and all of the "organisation" you implement on your notes is just erecting hurdles to retrieving the information you actually need.
>>
>>109067808
Vimwiki?
>>
>>109066249
I wish it was faster. It takes a few seconds to start on a modern PC, which is super annoying if all you need is to add eggs to your shopping list.
On the other hand, at least it utilizes browser renderer to integrate shit like Mermaid, so it's not a complete waste.
What makes it better than similar programs in my opinion is that you can edit your notes in neovim with .md rendering plugin, and they will be available in obsidian all the same.
>>109067840
It's useful to keep and organize info. Cheat sheets, book notes, command to capture system audio in bash and so on, all together with links and tags. When you're 20 and you perfectly remember all 10 books you read in past 10 years, you might not need it yet.
>>
bloated beyond reason.
>>
>>109066249
like all notes apps from the chink flu times its slow. Takes 10s to start and then rendering is always half broken before loading correctly. I dont understand why electron apps are so terrible the web isnt that bad.

The point isn't to be productive, the point is to have fun writing notes. Think of it like a video game.
>>
>>109069518
This. Either use OneNote and enjoy the real experience or just stick with VSCode and any plugins you need.
>>
>>109067840
>tricks you into thinking you are being so productive without ever actually getting anything done.
That depends on how you use it, but sure that could be a problem for some.

>this actively makes it less likely for you to actually remember it
For me typing it out and breaking it down it helps me remember.

>all of the "organisation" you implement on your notes is just erecting hurdles to retrieving the information you actually need.
The whole point of Obsidian is that you spent very little time organizing your notes. You could drop all your notes in one folder and use search or links and it works fine. And links don't take any time to make.

what does it even matter if it's open source or not? it's not like its sending your notes to agartha. you don't have to pay or use an account either way.

i would actually want to download all my history across the free gpts i use and import it into obsidian and then have a working memory of me for the other agents so i dont have to re explain shit every time. i constatly switch from model to model from different providers and the memory aspect is nearley useless. only claude has a working memory where it updates daily based on chats

Abandonware, afaik.
>>

I use google drive and git as a backup. (Wrote script that commits every day). For Android there's the DriveSync app that syncs it to your phone.

No reason to pay.
>>
>>109069110
Last time I checked, it's useless slop. It only is somewhat good at aggregating search results and slopping them together into a summary. Not always what you need, far from it.
Any other uses? Besides slopping out voiced version and such.

Who asked for that? Point is to use text. Because text is compatible with everything else, from your scripts to LLMs, to a dozen of other note taking apps (including notepad++, notepad.exe) and so on.
Who the fuck asked them to make it vendor locked?
>>
>>109072454
i feel like people who dont particularly need notes get 1-tapped by zettelkasten youtube tutorial, reach post-org clarity, and decide their experience is universally applicable

Obsidian has become a crutch for me, I didn't understand the second brain thing until I started power using it. Now I script and write plugins for everything to be piped into my vault.

Learning markdown language has unironically probably been the most important "language" of any kind I've learned. It's allowed me to get my ideas down and organize everything. I think in markdown. I dream in markdown. I have my own idiosyncratic and style of markdown to further speed things up and for information retrieval.

zettelkasten with obsidian + Anki got me through school. Learning to learn is a legit cheat code.
>>
>>109066249
i used it a bit but its not good, only good thing about it is being markdown and having the graph view, i dont want to install random plugins. If a feature is useful put it in the app.

Also in 2026 there is no way you make an app like this not avaiable as a webserver, i dont want to synchting between 5 device to have what could be accomplished by a single webserver...

Im using flatnotes exactly because of this, its simpyl the only markdown editor i found that allows me to have a single docker container on my pi to serve my notes to whatever device i please.
>>
>>109066249
Tried all of the alternatives, Zim is the only one that doesn't feel bloated and does what I want. At a certain point I realized I don't need fucking graphs and all the various "productivity" features most of these shitters have. I just need something that works like a local wiki for myself and that's all Zim really is. Also no weird formats, just plaintext in a folder could be easily migrated to something else if need be.
