Now that Roku has been acquired by the agents of Satan

Which is the best streaming platform and why is it Apple TV?

(*not the Apple TV streaming service, the box / platform, obviously these are two separate distinct products)

Buy a physical steam link of ebay, stream piracy sites to it, just make sure you have a bluetooth controller or keyboard lying around to activate it

Initially I thought this was Disney buying Roku but no

Disney bought Fox studios + TV (Renamed to 20th Century Studios)

Comcast bought Sky Europe (essentially paid satellite/cable tv boxes + broadband)

News Corp split off Fox news + papers (Rupert Murdoch and sons)

and now they've bought Roku

So they've essentially dumped their legacy TV products and some IP and bought another smaller, new, internet based TV provider

Honestly though I bet anything they start doing things like removing Jellyfin, Plex and other third party apps that compete with their own paid subscription offerings

Its probably going to end up being like Sky UK / Now TV (which also used rebranded Rokus) I.e You can watch some things for free but you can't watch any service which competes with our own paid offering

news ltd have a long history of buying such platforms and running them ALL into the ground. they did the same thing to cable/paytv in australia when they introduced so much advertising that cable tv turned into terrestrial free to air slop. then the service collapsed and fox/news ltd sold it.

Still can't get any worse than Netflix Warner Bros Discovery

This guy gets it

its crazy how similar TV is in Australia to UK/Europe

The same people running it, same platforms same standards, same names

>>109074762
That's a streaming platform buying a studio / production company

This is a newspaper magnate / former cable/satellite owner buying a platform + streaming company

The difference is that I can choose to not use or even remove the Netflix app from my TV but if I own a Roku device / Roku TV i'm basically stuffed if I want to use it

(hence the thread)

Fire sticks are garbage filed to the brim with Ads and they are switching to another non Android platform to stop people side loading APKs

Roku is now owned by totalitarian nutters that will ruin the proprietary devices / their ecosystem

Apple TVs are nice but they are expensive and apps also have to comply with tv App store rules

Google TV / Android TV seems to be the only option for a good non closed modern TV eco system left as you can install different non Google TV launchers and install apps outside of the Play store + use the device without signing in to Google

The correct answer is an Nvidia Shield.

I think this is correct and its fine if you buy a new one but £189 for a "new" (2019 update and 2015 CPU) shield is atrocious value for money

Nvidia need to stop fucking around with AI bullshit and release another device with the Switch 2 CPU

Its been so long since a real update that it may just be axed like the Chromecast line
>>
>>109076947
*fine if you buy a used one
>>
>>109068844
It matters! Imagine one day all trannies joining you in unity on the surface of the sun. It would be a glorious day

Anyway I saw from a tv at work that FireTV has an FCast receiver in its store, so there's that. I bet android tv would have it too but I have never used android tv.

>>I think this is correct and its fine if you buy a new one but £189 for a "new" (2019 update and 2015 CPU) shield is atrocious value for money
Solutions:
- Buy used. These things have been around since, as you pointed out, 2019, so there are likely people who barely used them and selling at a steep discount
- Stop being poor. If £189 is too much, consider finding work that pays better or improving your station that yields a higher salary.
- Do nothing and cope. Shield does one thing and one thing well: stream media. It doesn't need to do anything else.
>>
Yeah no don't worry its fine that everything is owned by the same corporation pay it no mind.

>I was considering getting a roku stick like 2 days ago
Dodged a bullet I guess, if you can't beat them buy them.
>>
>>109076984
I did mean buy used and I corrected myself immediately below the post

£189 is too much for an 11 year CPU, that was my point retard, not that I personally couldn't afford to buy a new one.

Its poor value for money and they should release an update, but its been 7 years since the last hardware revision
