Last thread people complained about how stupid roko's basilisk is, but they are missing the point; it is actually brilliant. You see, there's a large crowd of mentally deficient AI wannabe "experts" with judowski at the top that have convinced themselves that the heavily overused sci-fi trope of terminator is a real threat to humanity. You can try to point out how wildly unreasonable every step of their thought process is, how ultimately the very ideas of "singularity", "super intelligence" and the difficulty in establishing safety guards is entirely speculative and unfounded. But the retards will just cry about how even 1 in a trillibillion chance of human extinction warrants panic! This is basically pascal's wager.The only recourse then is to show them just how stupid their logic is, by applying it upside down. What if there's a meteorite coming towards earth, and only super AI can save us by developing a super plan? What if AI will act like a petty God and reward those who helped create it and punish those who tried to stop it? This is all very stupid, but not any stupider than AI fears. Roko's basilisk is brilliant at showing how baseless speculation is dumb and making AI panikers seethe profoundly. It is a wonderful idea, and I hope it gains popularity in science fiction.
