how do you cure this disease /g/?
>>109073795I have 500+ gay furry porn bookmarks. I try go through them but I also need to keep up with the new stuff.
>>109073795Just delete anything older than 3 years old without even reading what they are.Sliding window of relevance.
>>109073795digital hoarding doesn't occupy physical space, doesn't get moldy and smelly, so there is no problem.
how do i cure this one?>this is after cleanup
>>109073958you're misusing tabs as bookmarks, so convert tabs to bookmarks, close tabs, done.
>>109073795>site goes down>remember archive.org exist>keep old bookmarks for nostalgia and informationIts a curse and a blessing. Better than fucking tabs.
Keep bookmarking, If the webpage is gone you know the URL and hopefully the Internet Archive has it. Or better yet save important pages the day you discover it. I've rescued technical resources many times this way.
>>109073878/thread
>>109073855Just download everything and name in a way you can search.Anything online will disappear, your favorite video will disappear.
>>109073795If you bookmark anything slightly interesting then you'd have a pile of junk, only bookmark what you'd think you might need to return to or what is kino. Better make sure the page is archived by several services, like Internet Archive, archive.is, ghostarchive.org, megalodon.jp, etc. And you have the page locally with something like WARC. You wouldn't even imagine the amount of webpages and media lost without any archive, when you find anything worth it, consider yourself the chosen one and archive it.Like they say: there's two types of web users, those who archive, and those who never lost a page.
>>109074204>used to have many coomer.st kinos bookmarked but now it's kill
>>109073795Literally me, but ebooks instead of bookmarks.
>>109074232Divine intervention.
I thought about just deleting all my bookmarks and starting over, I have too much markslop.
>>109074232>Still got a few old yiff links saved.Never got around snatching those. Even after it moved to kemono.
>>109073878>hdds don't occupy space
>>109074354No point even visiting websites anymore, just query AI. In fact, don't even go outside, just prompt AI about what you're expected to see.
>>109073795I just export to html and then delete it all and then if I decide I think I needed something I will import it again and sift through all the shit and then delete it after. Sometimes I get bored and check my old bookmarks for fun but usually 75% are dead links by then. anything truly important I manually archive locally anyway (pro tip: porn and media has literally never made the cut)
>>109074168just use ai to gen it back
>>109074601AI doesn't show me funta hentai? I still have to viisit a website for that, also what does have to do with bookmarks?
>>109073878it occupiys space in your heart
>>109073878>mental exhaustion is not a problemok
>>109074685the problem is the exact opposite actuallyyour heart has only so much space to care, and when your bookmarks exceed your capacity for care, what's the point of bookmarking at all? if you lose all that you saved and yet feel only a twinge of regret, then you've never much cared at all
>>109073795I just have "daily bookmarks" that are just icons without any titles in the bookmark bar. All the rest goes to "Other Bookmarks" that I go through in the morning or if I am bored.
>>109073795Get a bookmark manager. That's what I have. I have about 15,000 bookmarks tagged, indexed, and searchable. I really should build an archiver into too with headless chrome.
>>109076081karakeep?
>>109073795>tfw 30k bookmarksIn my defense, it's for an archiving project, but still.
>>109076107Nah I've got a bespoke app I made myself years ago. It's just a bookmark manager. Nothing really that complicated. There's are dozens of bookmark managers out there though like that one.
>>109076368>archiving>with bookmarks
>>109076604Kek. The bookmarks are just one part of it, I don't literally believe that having something bookmarked archives it.
>cure>diseaseYou are normalizing your behavior by deflecting responsibility.
>>109073795Realize it's all pointless, from the hardware, software, etc. The digital form was a mistake. It is ethereal. I save nothing, I have no digital backups. I own nothing digital, and I am unironically happy. Luddites can't stop winning.
>>109076604No I'm telling you this tutorial on how to make gayfurry Java games I bookedmarked in 2008 definitely hasn't been lost to time, and it's definitely still there. I can't delete it because I might need to go back to this and then I'll feel like such a fool! Yea I'll go back to this bookmark someday... Someday...
I have this problem where I want the tabs to get out of my way.But I don't want to lose them permanently. And I don't want to just bookmark them otherwise they will accumulate and I'll never look at them and become unmanageable. So I'm looking into using Tab Stash to get sort of a middle ground where I can abandon the tabs there if they become irrelevant, but at the same time they're there if I ever decide to go back to them.Any other anons use it? What's your strategy?https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-stash/
>>109076661What kind of cognitive dissonance cope shit are you on you literally said you dont want to save tabs so you're gonna save tabs with extra steps instead i bet you the type of nigga who won't save documents and instead just leave them untitled in notepad++hoarding is a mental illness seek help
>>109076661That's just installing spyware with extra exuses.Use some simple notes, put there your old tabs along with reasons why you had them open. Then when you have nothing to do, feed your notes to local LLM and ask what's on your list of postponed shit. You're welcome. No spyware extensions, apps, subs, clouds and other gay shit. This approach is based on a simple principle: low tech, high life.
>>109076688>you dont want to save tabs so you're gonna save tabs with extra steps insteadThe opposite. It's allows me to do it with less steps because it allows me to stash them with less steps and group them with 1 button press. And also restore them.>>109076701>spywareWhat are you on about? It's a quite popular open-source extension. If it had any spyware, it would be out in the open. You don't use extensions?>Use some simple notes, put there your old tabs along with reasons why you had them open. Why would I make the process more complicated if I can do all that with 1 button press?>feed your notes to local LLMI have my own simple TODO lists.I am not yet senile enough that I need to ask an LLM to write me one. But thanks.
>>109076469that's neat, are you doing the tagging manually then i guess?
>>109076661I just use a special bookmark folder for this. I give the bookmark a name that explains why I'm bookmarking it. I clean this folder out weekly.
>>109073795AI algorithims to sort and catalog everything nicely for scraping.
>>109076816Yeah. Now that you mention it, it would be a fun task to integrate an LLM for tagging webpages based on the content. I could feed it existing tags, and also ask it for new tag suggestions. I usually just search for what I'm trying to find though with a search box. I'm using Postgres as the DB, and Postgres has some okay built in full text search. It's not as good as Elasticsearch or Solr, but it's decent enough. I just had to make sure I set up the indices correctly, and also cleaned the scrapped HTML well. Then rebuild the indices periodically for newly ingested pages.
>>109076849>>109076870Isn't this what >>109076107 does?Karakeep automatically tags your content from what I can see.
>>109076833Wish I could do that, because there's bookmark groups that I need to keep for months.
>>109076976I don't get rid of all my bookmarks weekly. I clear out the temp folder weekly, organizing the ones I want longer term into folders and deleting the rest. I sort through my other folders too occasionally but they never get too bad
>>109076870when i was looking at karakeep it made me wonder how tiny of a model you can get away with using for tagging
>>109077044Ah, I see what you mean now.I tend to place my bookmarks in the correct folder/tags right when I bookmark it.
>>109076968Yeah but I like my thing cause I made it. It's just for me though. Also I made mine a few years before that anyway.
>>109077053>>109076870>wonder how tiny of a model you can get away with using for taggingVery small. Or something like gpt 3.5 via API would be enough, will only cost you a few bucks.
i have around 2.2k porn bookmarks from 2019-2025, and probably at least 1k more that aren't in this folder that i didnt move. i used to download lots of porn before but now i only bookmark
>>109077244Most of it is probably gone by now. This goes for all bookmarks but especially porn. Dont you remember the pornhub purge?
>>109077150Sure, fair enough! I know the feeling.
>>109077397theres lots of older shit gone yeah
I need help with this too, i have over 4k random articles from Lamernews posts to Mailing list achives to stack overflow answers that I mentally put in the category of "content is meh, but replies are interesting, I'll read them later". They interfere with the natural flow of using my browser (they show up as recommendations) but I don't know what to do with them beyond place them on its own directory "The comments tar pit"
I'm confused. I learned to use bookmarks as a speed dial for my visited websites.
>>109073795I bookmark anything I find interesting. Sometimes I get the sudden urge to open something I bookmarked 3 years ago. The thought comes to me whenever
>>109073795I have so much porn bookmarked but I'm also too scared to have it locally on my pc cuz my parents use it soooo yeah idk what to do
>>109078370Back them up to a different profile then delete them from the main profile.
>>109073795It's true that I never come back to my bookmarks 99% of the time, but that one % where I need something and remember I have it bookmarked is the best feeling in the world.
>>109073984No, he is using tabs as intended. Bookmarks are for long term reference.
>>109073795I wish I had been bookmaxxng this whole time. My browser just crashed and I lost over a thousand tabs I had open. Can't get them back. Half of them were private tabs. Lost about a year's worth of material and I want to kms.
>>109073795>>109081469Been bookmaxxng since Windows XP. There's no greater feeling than not having to deal with keeping or keeping up with tabs. I've lost so many fucking tabs over the most retarded bullshit but bookmarks, never gave me any issues all these years. To the point where I still don't understand how everyone just up and decided that tabs were the best way to go. I mean yeah for maybe if you had less than 10 tabs.Don't know about any other browser but Firefox always had really great ways to sort and organize your bookmarks. The sidebar lets your drag & drop, add folders, add a separator bar, edit the name, edit the urls(in case old links became dirty), add tags for easier searching, searching in general, easy to back up and import, and if the sidebar is too small you can also use the Library in firefox(Ctrl+Shift+O) to really get a good look at your bookmarks. And you generally don't have to do anything when it comes to saving bookmarks. If you want something to go into a certain folder, by default FF will always remember you last saved folder so you're just simply saving bookmarks as normal. I think there's also an option to save all tabs into bookmarks. But the most important part is it doesn't eat up that much resources compared to keep tabs.
>>109073795By getting AI to feast on your bookmarks to leave behind compounding ambient knowledge contextualization
>>109073795Started cleaning up my bookmarks, converting some to rss feeds if applicable, but now I have a tab group problem.
>>109082321Also used to use archivebox but it was too bulky for me. Moved over to readeck and been happy with it.
>>109073855Kek
>>109076661Tab groups are built into firefox.
>>109073795i had a few hundred bookmarks i never looked at, both nice and tidy in a folder but also spamming the bookmarks bar, when i got too tired of them taking up space, i just deleted them. its nice to have a big reference of places you've been and found interesting, but if you never visit them outside of a few, using the others to keep track of where i'd been, no need to keep em. just delete them is the key. they did serve their purpose at the time, as i was rapidly learning the state of play in a certain field. once i got up to speed, no need for them anymore.
Sounds like you are all a step away from a Zettelkasten. Look it up. Go down the rabbit hole. :)
i have 300 bookmarks of archived threads, i do read them but every week i bookmark new threads faster then i finish reading old threads so the number keeps increasing
>>109083727For what it's worth, I do the same thing. Even my numbers are similar. I try to only do it with threads that might contain useful info to sift through (such as userscript/extension threads), but it has gotten out of control regardless.
>>109073795Already fixed in Firefox's current build.
