how long until type c phases it out completely?
>>
>>109073969
Two weeks from now.
>>
Never. They're never going to commit to dumping this retarded connector. Even the steam controller comes with a A-to-C cable.
>>
>>109073969
>>109074018
What's wrong with it other than being more fragile? I think it's nice not needing to check which way I'm plugging it in.
>>
>>109074055
Sometimes shit needs to be sturdy and not fall apart or slip out of the port
>>
never, same way type b still exists
>>
>>109073969
probably not for another decade. computer manufacturers just aren't spec'ing them. current model Dell still usually only have 1 port. Laptops have 2 because 1 is reserved for power / dock.

I'm glad more gadgets are switching over though. I refuse to buy anything if it doesn't charge with USB-C.
>>
>>109074077
I've never seen it used outside of printers.
>>
>>109074115
Seen it on printers and usb3 hubs on some monitors. It's a pretty robust connector
>>
>>109074129
>>109074115
meant to say external HDD enclosures instead of printers. Oh, and for whatever reason KVMs too.
>>
>>109074138
Yeah, the one on the KVM is probably for printers as well.
>>
>>109074115
I have a mechanical keyboard with a type b connector
>>
>>109074084
Yeah, there’s basically no technical reason to hold on to C, but the inherent inertia of transitioning from one connector to another will take years and years.

Especially from the perspective of manufacturers who make peripherals for desktop use it is just safer to use type A, because most newer mobos still have only couple of type C connectors and there are still lots of people with zero type C connectors on their PCs.
>>
>>109075935
*technical reason to hold to type A, I mean
>>
I have completely removed it from my personal use, as should you. There are literal thousands of acres of warehouses around the world filled with USB-A products. The responsibility is on us firstly to not buy them, and secondly not use them.
>>
>>109076031
this, we need to produce as much e-waste as possible
>>
>>109074018
post best connector.
>>
>>109074018
A to C is literally the best for PCs, C to C is retarded and too flimsy to use in a desktop computer, even in laptops.

USB C is planned obsolescence. Mark my words: this skinny cunt is designed to break quicker so you buy more devices.
>>
All my connected devices are still USB-B.
>>
In 20+ years of using PCs, laptops, consoles, assorted gadgetry, adapters, and peripherals, I have never had a USB-A male or female fail on me outside of severe physical trauma. 3.0 spec cables are excellent general purpose cables and the only reason anybody wants to pivot away from them is because their jeetdom can't afford anything more than a phone so they think it's irrelevant.

>>109074077
Type B (and A) has literally no drawbacks outside of being too big for mobile devices.
The entire point of A and B was to simplify the direction of power/data (from A to B). I think it has great merit but because the amount of physical applications you need to absolutely ensure half-duplex or simplex transmission is so low, most devices just use USB-A.
>>
>>109076496
I’m just an old ass that has still usb micro devices
>>
>>109073969
They’re already working on the next on.
Connector churn is their business. Don’t kid yourselves.
USB-C has 24 pins, you could use it as a serial port for christs sakes.
Next one will probably have AI porn detection and reporting chips in the connector moulding.

>>109076413
The headphone jack with an optical center. High current on the ring, 10 GB/s fiber in the center.
>>
>>109076683
We already had that.
>>
>>109073969
It's fucking shit for PC use. My keyboard if the cable is not held correctly by the route they designed for it below the keyboard, it falls a little and starts disconnecting. If I move it the same happens and the usb-C to A dongle doesn't help at keeping it stable.
>>
ideally never but they will. type c to type c is a bad joke but that's where we're headed
>>
>>109073969
How long until sliding slits phase out EVERY kind of socket entirely?
>>
>>109074055
It feels like the only reason usb C exists is because of braindead redditors like this tard got way too confused about which way is up on a USB A. Literally everything else in the physical design of USB C is much worse.
>>
>>109078539
Usb A to A is an abomination in the standards.
A is the host and B is the slave device.
Thus we have replaced B and micro with C but can't replace A. It would no longer be USB. A Chipless USB C to USB C cable cannot discern host and slave. The chip quality in usb c to c cables varies widely.
>>
>>109073969
Hopefully never. I don't have much problems with USB C port durability, but I have A ports going back to 1996 and the only ones that have broken were on ultra cheapass USB hubs.
>>
>>109074055
>What's wrong with it other than being more fragile?
That's already a really really fucking huge problem, but an even bigger one is that it defines USB2 wiring as a minimum.

So basically we went from USB3 (5Gbps) cables which work up to 20gbps if the port allows it, to a port that may do anything from USB2, USB3 (5gbps), USB3 (10gbps) over one lane, 2x lanes of USB3 (10gbps), 2x lanes of USB3 10gbps (20gbps), 40gbps, Displayport, Fast Charging, PCI-Express, but it's a complete toss up depending on what's written on the port. And it's also a toss up whichever one of these does the cable support. Good luck finding something fully compatible!

We basically went back to 200-fucking-4 when a motherboard may have had 6 USB ports on the back and 4 more provided via front panel, but if you were lucky then 2 of those were USB2 and the rest were something like the speed of a floppy disk. And then you wondered why your external drive sometimes ran at a snails speed.
>>
>>109073969
It's not happening. Peripherals aren't even making an attempt to move away and neither are motherboards / computers with the ports they provide. USB-C is only used for mobile shit basically, it's not seeing any real adoption otherwise.

Why would they phase it out? USB A is awesome, especially the part where it's non-Euclidean.
