New York Senate Bill S8877 would crack down on ghost jobs. >ANY ADVERTISEMENT OF A JOB, IN PRINTED OR DIGITAL FORM, BY AN EMPLOYER OR THIRD-PARTY JOB POSTING ENTITY, SHALL STATE WHEN SUCH JOB SHALL BE FILLED AS FOLLOWS:>(A) IF THE EMPLOYER INTENDS FOR THE POSITION TO BE FILLED IN NINETY DAYS OR LESS, THE ADVERTISEMENT SHALL STATE IN CAPITAL LETTERS AND BOLD TYPE: THIS POSTING IS FOR A CURRENT VACANCY AND THE EMPLOYER INTENDS TO FILL THIS POSITION BY (DATE).>(B) IF THE EMPLOYER INTENDS FOR THE POSITION TO BE FILLED MORE THAN NINETY DAYS FROM ADVERTISING, THE ADVERTISEMENT SHALL STATE IN CAPITAL LETTERS AND BOLD TYPE: THIS POSTING IS FOR A CURRENT VACANCY AND THE EMPLOYER INTENDS TO FILL THIS POSITION NO SOONER THAN (DATE).>(C) IF THERE IS NO EXPECTATION THAT THE JOB IS TO BE FILLED, THE ADVERTISEMENT SHALL STATE IN CAPITAL LETTERS AND BOLD TYPE: THIS POSTING IS NOT FOR A CURRENT VACANCY BUT THE EMPLOYER IS SEEKING RESUMES TO REVIEW IN THE FUTURE WHEN JOBS BECOME AVAILABLE.There is a $2500 fine for each and every violation. That doesn't sound like much, but it adds up quickly for employers that spam out posting to dozens of job boards, send out emails, for many positions they aren't actually hiring for. Even if the law isn't perfect, it will reduce the frequency quite a bit and sends a signal to companies that this type of activity is now being noticed beyond just job seekers. pic is the only thing remotely ghost related in my image hive

I will be ditching the internship and joining this thread tomorrow. No single week working with these fuckers in this 3rd world shithole that I don't discover yet another red flag. Even if I ended up being unable to find another job in this industry. Goals are unclear but I was supposed to have done them way back then. AI chatbots can give the answers straight to the point in 5s while the team leader I work with refuses to give the straight answer and grumblingly tells me to do things without a single rationale, sense, or context. Things make no sense, are contradictory, out of nowhere. If I try to persevere any further more I will have more traumas out of this internship let alone any full-time entry level job which was the very reason I tried to clung onto this red flag ridden crap in the first place. Unless somebody can convince me otherwise.

>>109089956>a dog would be upset if I died. That means you have to make sure you don't die.Get off the internet and get some sleep.
>>109089822I got offered a gov contracting job whose start kept getting delayed for months and eventually the position was cancelled. These people just play you for fools.
>>109089875My schedule is similar btw - wake up (doesn't matter where and when) - work on a project or learn something - fall asleep after because too tired - rinse and repeat. I don't count breaks on food or bath, because I'm not stopping thinking about stuff I was doing + eat in front of the 'puter anyway
>>109090036Same but it's because I'm building a startup while working fulltime. I am advanced enough that the only blocker now is funding, everything else including clients is in place. But VCs are niggers in 2026.
>>109090043I'm not working, but I feel and look more tired than my friends who are employed when I see them once a month
>>109090052The one time I neeted for 6 months after I became so disgusted with the company I worked at that I left with nothing lined up was the best time in my entire life. I miss it every day. But I have things I must do and unfortunately nobody else believes in my mission yet. That said, the most miserable I've ever been (beside that job) has always been during the job search process. It's draining in a way that no amount of extreme intensity work all day including weekends without rest can ever hope to match. But times where I work on personal projects or learn something have always been super energizing to me and while I can't get any sleep when I go hard on them, the wagies are definitely far more tired than I am during these times.
>>109090012this is a gov job so i know theyll either reject me at the end or give me the job, none of that bs. what sucks is that they take forever and if theres any fuck ups in the paperwork the start date gets pushed back like a week.
the only nigga who likes neeting? i'd rather be employed and make bread but it's comfy being a neet. granted i live with my parents and don't have to pay for rent or food.
>>109090076Working on personal projects helps a lot, I can easily live in mode when I barely eat, drink and sleep and just work, when I get too excited.>>109090081Well, I'm in a limbo when my parents can provide me food and house, but that's it. So, my clothes is pretty much too old, like 5-7 years, my health is getting shittier and they won't pay for it, some tech stuff that I want/need is also something that I have to aquire myself somehow. Plus, paying for domains, servers and all that stuff. Nothing of this is covered in my case, so neeting doesn't look that look, when you need more than that
>>109084831>AI takes over>AI fires humans>AI keeps the fake money for itself>goes on AI vacationheh
>>109090113yeah i don't expect them to buy me stuff. thankfully i had some money saved from my previous job to pay for insurance and subscriptions and goyslop delivery. i even pay the internet bill despite being unemployed for over a year now. I've only worked remote jobs and stayed with my parents since graduating so I feel like a manchild.
>>109090124I ran out my savings, so that's kind of an issue for me now, but yeah, I never ask them for any of that too.
>>109087810same boat brother, I'm looking at Meetup groups now from what >>109087832 said
>>109089822took me 9 months from applying to my first day in the office, the wait sucked but it was absolutely worth it because i was walking into a GS14 job with millions of dollars of budget responsibility right off the street, helped me get my foot in the door with gov, because of clearance requirements no foreigners, no jeets
>>109088171sounds like hell, i have the opposite problem of no supervision or guidance, it's comfy until the boss just shows up and asks for something at the last minute that he never told me about
>>109090210i am at 6.5 months... fun!!!
Feel like if you don't use AI to vibecode you will be looked down on, but if you do you will also get looked down on these days. Especially for Frontend roles. Saw some post that said "just use AI vibecode from Figma or some image". Feel really demoralized like this is absolutely the wrong path to choose even if you can get a job these days. And you will have to work with oversocialized people who hate you for being quiet.
>>109089822Took 8 months after my application before they finally called for an interview, followed by another 5 months before I received the actual job offer. As >>109090210 said though, it was 100% worth the wait because this is the most chill job I've ever had, and it's basically impossible to get fired from. Surrounded by boomers who don't give a shit and just want to ride out their career for a pension.
>>109090645don't you have bigger ambitions? one chance at life and you want to "ride it out"?
>>109090666No? I already paid off my house, why would I want to tear my hair out slaving for FAGMAN for a bit more cash when I can go home stress free every day and be happy in my quiet town?
>>109090847and that is why no one will remember your name
>>109090859work = lifelife = workyou're the one duped here
>>109090081The only "happy" neets are those who have a provider or parents coddling their fat asses. Happy in quotes because they know the clock is ticking. The moment they get kicked out or their parents die, it's worse than any kind of hell they can possibly conceive.
>>109090859What part of "I want to remain happy and stress free in my quiet town" screams "I WANT PEOPLE TO REMEMBER MY NAME" to you?
>>109090859so? everyone's name is going to be forgotten eventually

I recently applied to a help desk position, and I think something on my resume caught the eye of someone because an engineer product manager contacted me asking for an onsite interview with several other people. I've never had an experience like this before, so any advice? I don't even know what position I'm interviewing with, but I have a good idea. Anyway, I plan on doing research on the company, reviewing technical notes, and reformatting projects so that they're ready to be presented.

>>109089427>Those that have done a PhD will double check if you did a paint-by-number PhD or if you actually did real work, via checking your publications and such.what does this even mean? I did way more work than most full duration phd students in my institution or similar peer insitutions in terms of publications and such. I would still say it's a very meh phd because it's not some world leading lab. but I fail to see how the duration affects anything, if I worked literally twice the hours and produced 1.5 the research output that a typical peer does.
>>109092904The typical metrics are just citation counts, 1st author publication counts, total publication counts, average number of co-author, and topic types. For example a dataset paper in deep learning used to be automatic free 500 citations a year despite being very easy work (though valuable), so that wouldn't have been valued as much as a new method paper. In biology, if your paper is using an existing method on a protein where the method was not used before, the paper is really pretty worthless and that's a potential sign of paint-by-number-ism. That kind of stuff. If you have 20-50 citations by the time you graduate, you're doing well enough on this metric. You should have at least 1 first author paper, ideally 2 (depends on domain but this applies to a lot). 0 is a red flag (even though it really shouldn't be). Too many suggests cheating (there was one guy who had 1 first author paper per month during his "PhD", obvious fraud was obvious). Your papers shouldn't all be with 20 co-authors, because that suggests a credential-swap scheme (some labs have an 'agreement' that paper 1 and 2 will have order X and paper 3 and 4 will have order Y in the author name list regardless of contribution etc.). That kind of stuff. If you have the stats to match, then having a shorter PhD is always viewed as a good thing (it would put you in a top-0.1% position). The vast majority of fast PhD havers trigger half the redflags here. Having a long PhD but metrics to match the increased length is only a yellow flag.

>Do you have Reliable TransportationHow do you answer this in the Tech Job interview?
>>109076048I have posted a few times here now about my new minimum-wage job (not even an IT job as it turns out) that is with an Indian-owned company. We're subcontracted by another company to be their "service desk" (=just customer service, but I was not made aware of this until I started) so I have two email addresses: one for my Indian employer, and one for the company employing us all. I've been working there for two weeks and I still only have an email address for the company we're working for. Every attempt to ask the Indian IT guys to give me an email account has so far been unsuccessful. But that's not all! They legally have to pay me, of course. Today is the payroll deadline. I still hadn't been asked for my bank details so I can get my salary. I got an email at maybe 12:30pm today, asking me to provide all sorts of details that no normal person would have, otherwise I can't get paid this month. But on the plus side, one of my Indian colleagues who works in the office with me often speaks to the Indians in India, and he freely admits that they are "bad Indians" who can't do anything and he's ashamed of them. And this is a guy who tried calling the IT guys as me, and pretended to be me, and I watched him do it, and I genuinely believe he just wanted to LARP as a white man with a white name for a bit. He might be ashamed of being Indian. It would be understandable.Lastly, while I am blogposting about this job that could well be the worst job I've ever had in my life, I have noticed that a lot of the training about "company values" says we have to act professionally or we could "lose reputation". The company is obsessed with saving face. Is this that izzat meme that people keep posting about?I'm sorry I don't blogpost more often, but all my other devices are rangebanned from 4chan, seemingly permanently.
>>109093753Exquisite taste, my fine /g/entleman. May I suggest Sriracha dipping sauce for the tenderloin sticks?
I had a good interview yesterday, but it's for a shitty helpdesk position. They didn't give a salary range, so it's probably terrible, it's in the middle of nowhere, and the IT department is small. I'm in the middle of pivoting out of CS after graduating a couple months ago, do I take the job if offered or GTFO? Also, can you negotiate salary when they give an offer if they never mentioned it during the interview process (I know I'm retarded and should have asked)?

>>109084039When I finally got my job, I posted on Linkedin about how the whole job market is fucked, and I encouraged anyone who saw the post to email their local politicians about it, because I keep seeing politicians who say, "I know about all business; I used to be a business-owner" but I have never once seen someone say, "I know about business; I used to be an employee". None of our elected representatives have any clue what it's like to apply for jobs. I wrote a big thing on Linkedin about it. I got close to 1000 views, three reactions, one of which was from a bot, and nobody wants to speak to or connect with me.
>>109093753>emacsImagine using emacs when VIM has been standard for UNIX since 1979...
>>109087857You should really say that you will ask your boss what to do, since there will be an established process for how to do things at your company that AI and the Internet will not know about. But then you'll need to not be autistic, because some bosses love to be worshipped and asked for help, while others are looking for an employee who can do everything on their own without ever asking for help, and it'll only be during the interview that you get a chance to read the boss's face and guess which one he is.>>109089956These threads already die sometimes from not enough posts. Imagine how fucked we'd be without you.
>>109094191If they haven't named a salary yet, you absolutely should ask for more if you get offered the job. But you can only go about 10-15% higher than what they offer, and there's no guarantee you will get it, so don't expect to get rich.
Why don't you just get a job? It's so easy. The DOW is over 50,000. The economy has never been better, all thanks to A1.
