anyone use starlink? pricing isnt bad. i think im going to get the roaming package and take my own internet with me wherever i go and not have it tethered to my house.
>>
I use it on the Residential Max plan in rural New Zealand. Had 15mbps down 1mbps up (adsl connection) prior to this.

Was mostly concerned about online gaming (e.g. hardcore wow) but it's super rare to actually have any connection drops and latency is rock solid.

Pic related, just took a speed test right now.

not bad. my entire area in the states is like a monopoly by xfinity. part of me is switching just to say fuck you to comcast.
>>
>>109080054
General advice is if you have access to a fiber connection don't switch. It's not going to be better

It's a neat idea, but you'll need energy to run your Starlink router. If you're serious about this, you'll have to invest into a good RV, and set up a bunch of solar panels on it. Worst part ... probably searching for a free parking spot. Being nomadic might be comfy if you have cyberpunk set-up.

been using it for year, its great. I think I lost connection few times over the last year. 1) when the entire electrical grid went down during heavy rain 2) some weird global even that lasted like 2-3 hours, I cant remember.

other than thats, its pretty great. I regularly get ~40MB (BYTES), thats ~300Mbps speed. And ~20 ms latency test on google currently.

Also been playing mmo games, to pass times, never noticed anything.

yes it's been a total gamechanger. I work in the woods a lot with no service and I have mine in my sunroof hooked up to a battery pack. I have singlehandedly doubled project timelines by letting the rest of the crew mooch off of my hotspot and doomscroll tiktok/yell at their soon to be ex wives when they should be working. The extra overtime easily pays for my subscription costs.
>>

my battery pack can run my starlink mini for like 3 days on a single charge. It draws like 45W.
>>
>>109080208
Yes tard, but can it run mini fridge, and ac?
Do you have shower in your car?
Can you take a shit in your car?

You can just buy a laptop with simcard slot, and use 5g if you are going out for few days.
>>
>>109079928
You need some clear sky. And you're behind a carrier nat. If that's okay, it's great
>>
>>109080224
You're the only one talking about boondocking indefinitely in an RV.
I'm pretty happy with my setup. My cooler that I keep in my car holds ice for a few days. My camp shower works well enough for a few days. My etool works perfectly fine for taking a shit in the woods, it even doubles as a toilet seat. I use that pretty much every single day.
>You can just buy a laptop with simcard slot, and use 5g if you are going out for few days.
Except where there isn't cell coverage, which is almost every single one of my jobsites. My starlink data cap is also 20x my mobile data cap. Even the cell based dedicated hotspots have pretty restrictive data caps.

i just want the ability to bring the internet I pay for whereever I go. how feasible would setting this up at work be? I work in a rural area so I could set this up on my roof and not worry about theft. could it possibly be setup right in my office at the window? not sure how any of this satellite stuff works yet.
>>
>>109080294
It's up to you, but I would at least deck out sprinter van, car is too small for anything.
>>
>>109079928
Why is this cheaper in Europe? It's from 40 USD (35eur) to 75USD (65 EUR).
>>
>>109080349
If I had a van I'd definitely do this, but I have a car not a van and I like my car. I don't have to overnight out of it often enough for that to be a problem anyway, if I'm planning to be out overnight I'll just take my outback.
>>109080341
You'd have to stick it out the window or mount it on the roof. Window would depend on what direction the window faces and your latitude, otherwise the side of the building might occlude your dish's view of the satellite train. So if you can do roof that's better. The power cable is really long and you can plug in an ethernet cable too so roof mounting is viable if physical access is easy. I use mine as a backup for my home internet too and when my home internet goes down i just lay my dish in the front yard and run cables out my window.

>>109080606
thanks anon. i think it will feasible.
>>
>>109080341
just buy a mini. 100mbps is fine for 99% of situations. t. gen 1 round dishy user for 5years now or whatever, also have a mini I throw on my truck dash sometimes.
stealing starlinks isn't really a 'thing' as they're a brick unless you have account access. well, a tweaker has to know that I guess
>>
>>109080385
Europoors can't afford more due to low incomes and high taxes
>>
>>109079928
I have 3, 1 for me, 1 for senpai and a mini for my sister. All unlimited for 260 a month, its very good
>>
>>109079928
Forgot to say, the first gen routers, every single one fucks up after a few years with a tiny power fluctuation. Were on gen 3 now, but never buy a second hand dish ever if its an old gen
>>
>>109080385
In finland theres high coverage for cheap regular internet thats more reliable and faster than starlink
The pricing accounts for some of that, and you know people are buying it as a second internet for the vacation home or something so the overall use will be less.

>>109080224
yes
no

>anyone use that citizen surveilance network?
no, i rather give my data to small tech companies rather than big tech, they need the money from selling it more than musk does
