Install gentoo on it. On windows I had updates nuking the GPU drivers, which made it lose brightness control, frequent bsods, and when the GPU is under load the CPU frequency fell to 300MHz.

be aware that some HP elitebooks hardcode the bootloader path to the one windows uses. You might have to rename your bootloader to get linux to work on it
