also if you want to keep around multiple versions of the same package or use things your distro doesnt package natively having nix around helps. ive used brew for this in thepast and it has problems

the point is that the whole reason you're having a wife is to not need to use condoms. while reason you're installing packages via your package manager is so you're immediately and easily available on your $PATH which theyre not on nix
