I just don't get what Ebassi has against desktop icons. How can he not see any use case for those. It's baffling.

Can you provide a use case for desktop icons?

MacOS has the most practical desktop system.
Crazy how linux DE's won't copy this feature (it was added in 2018)

I use my desktop as a temporary folder for things I'll delete once I'm done working on them. The Home/Documents folders are for storing things that I actually care about.
>>
>>109085305
the dedicated place for this is /dev/shm or /tmp
>>
Ebassi is just a retard. He is not smart enough to understand the usecase for desktop icons. Ebassi doesn't think.

Ebased is right on this one

He doesn't mean that, nobody is so retarded to hate desktop icons

I hate desktop icons. i don't need a file manager open behind my windows at all times thanks.

you're more than free to use an extension for that purpose

How about... if I don't want things on my desktop I don't put things on my desktop? Ebassi can not comprehend this.

Why would you desecrate ebussy's hard work like that?

>imagine trying to comprehend autism.
I don't really think it's autism, I think it's just pure ego and God complex.
Like, he knows better than the literal subhumans who use what he produces.
>>
>>109085178
Macos wouldn't need all that shit if they decided not to store screenshots and add every removable device and mounted installer images to the desktop.
>>
>>109085128
use case for clarity?
>>
>>109086453
MacOS understands desktop exactly, it's a temporary place for assorted things. Ebassi is sociopath aspergers, there is no such thing as temporary to him, he can not comprehend why anyone would ever leave a fork on the table when color coded box labeled "forks" exists so he tard rages the table away.
>>
Desktop icons are just a folder you can't close.
The desktop is for windows, not files and folders.
>>
Desktop icons clash with the way gnome uses virtual desktops.
>>
Why the fuck do you need desktop icons? He's right.
>>
>>109085128
You don't need them. I went from having them on Windows to none with GNOME on Linux and I get it. You simply don't need them with GNOME.
>>
>>109087102
You don't need them with any OS. The desktop is bloated garbage
>>
>>109085128

nothing. he literally only ever worked on gtk and nothing else.

I have diagnosed aspergers syndrome and this is probably the best description I've heard in a long time.

You don't need it. And most importantly, if you have an ugly cluttered mess of icons on your desktop, that desecrates our beautiful work of art that is the GNOME desktop and spoils our grand vision.

/g/ defending desktop icons? did all my frens really leave this place behind?

As much as I like to meme on him, Ebussy is a high IQ autismchad who's right about desktop icons (and most other things).

/g/ was never a monoculture of people who hate desktop icons, I've almost certainly been on /g/ longer than you (since 2005) and desktop icons have always been part of my workflow.

Desktop icons are a terrible design. Every linux system with an application launcher/universal search tool is far better. Imagine hiding the window you're looking at just so you can look at your desktop and click on things. The application launcher pops up on top of your window, does it job and then goes away.
Windows users on the other hand have trauma from the terrible start menu searcher which is slow and broken so they dont know better.
But dont mac users also use an application launcher now? whatever its called

That made more sense in the 80s and 90s. These days you rarely need to run windows in fullscreen, and pretty much everyone has multiple monitors.

A desktop is just a quick access folder with more organization. Why open up my file manager, navigate to "Documents" then open "Todo.txt" or whatever when I can just move my cursor to the right and click a text file?
Why clutter the limited sidebar in my file manager with a bunch of "favorites" when I can just put a shortcut on my desktop?
>>
I think ebassi is making threads on himself for some reason, or maybe some shizo that keeps making threads about him

>>109090316

unironically not a bad place to look for GTK development

Or you could just press a button, type "ni" and it instantly finds you "nigger" directory. File managers are mostly deprecated

I'm not remembering and typing in a bunch of file names for my mostly temporary desktop files or reminders.

ebussy is a MASOCHIST he loves to post about himself and jerks off to all the negative comments. he actually gets off to this stuff, no joke. but the meme is funny so play along and we can get more ebussy memes.

Yeah, things right there on desktop reminding what I'm supposed to work on with a glance without descending into directory structures or opening an app. also

Then you have to open up a folder to see your temporary files instead of minimizing the current application you have open, you stupid ass licking wad of fuck paste.
