What do you set as your hostname?
>>
your.momma
>>
>>109086004
the purpose of hostname is to quickly ssh between your devices
>>
>>109086004
Something to identify physical device, plus OS if it's a dual booting PC.
>>109086024
Should be ".home.arpa"
your.momma.home.arpa
>>
>>109086004
nigger, the domain is nigger.nigger and the username is nigger

Not if you use systemd. You will be forced to use your real name to pass Pottering's attestation.

What year did they add "you can make something up here"

Correct. The only machine I need to ssh into is called htpc.
>>
you can literally type anything you want. linux is that free as in freedom. its your computer bro
>>
I used to have a faggy naming scheme, like naming all my devices after planets (usually was something space-related)
Now I just leave it at the default or set it to the name of the distro, since it's just another metric by which software can fingerprint you.
I always set my user name to "user" too btw.

I have a Windows desktop with Ryzen that I used for work and a HP laptop with Debian for casual/leisure/almost everything else. I named both of them shitbox.

Don't have time for all that shit. And no use case...
>>
>>109086033
>>109086281
ssh is pointless when nc -e exists
>>
>>109086004
I wish I had:
>desktop /pcbg/
>laptop /tpg/
>phone /spg/
>server /hsg/
>dedicated llm server /lmg/
>etc
But I honestly don't care too much to do that. I think I usually have the default of OS name or computer model.
>>
I name the hostname after the computer's model name. Like this is my white macbook from mid 2010 model named "Macbook 7,1" so the hostname is macbook71
