What the fuck happened to blu-ray drives? Why are they so expensive now? They were like $50 a decade ago.
>>109086572>external bluray driveOh no, it's worthless
>>109086576Internal ones aren't any cheaper.
If I had to guess maybe there's some kind of exploit available with the ones on the market now to get around all the hardware drm shit with bluray as a medium and there was a purchasing rush.Blurays are pretty shit as a medium.
usecase? just torrent BD rips you retard
>>109086580Shop around and check ebay instead of taking screenshots of the most expensive ones that come up on the first page of newegg
>>109086587DVD also has DRM. It's just that the DRM is so flimsy that it got cracked on day 1.
>>109086601yet you dont provide any screenshots of these cheap ones you alleged existcurious
>>109086572LibreDrive and OmniDrive firmware. That's what happened. Suddenly now everyone wants a compatible drive.
>>109086572We're still in the middle of a global pandemic and you're asking why things are expensive. Use your fucking brain.
>>109086603Well moreso the thing is that DVD drm will just refuse to decrypt stuff put on disks (while you can still use unencypted disks). The Bluray method of DRM is trying to detect unauthorized usage and turning the device into a brick. It's why the PS3 still gets updates, because otherwise its disk drive will just stop working.
you can have mine, it's a pioneer drive that ruins disks, if I play a disk more than a handful of times, the disk gets ruined
>>109086631>global pandemic
>>109086572use case? you retarded gorilla nigger
>>109086798To burn Windows disc and install it
>>109086572a tiktuber made a video about ripping video blurrys
>>109086572Blu-Ray is deprecated and no longer produced.
>>109086572price went up because:>streaming hype>lower production>boobtoobers hype>retvrn to sovl hypeblu-ray is still relevant and would have been improved if it weren't for "you'll own nothing" cancer spreading everywhere.
>>109086572thats a burner not a reader. burners are always more expensive.
>>109086632Huh… thats interesting… So if you bought a blu ray player when they first came out there’s a chance it won’t play new bluray discs? What a brilliant planned obsolescence scheme.
>>109087162Playstation is the only bluray player that requires annual updates. Old players will have no problem playing todays blurays unless its a 4K UHD Bluray thats out of scope for that and even PS3.
>>109086968How did boobtubers cause Blu-Ray prices to increase specifically
>>109087400channels with reach (>=100k) making content on the subject. their videos alone are not enough to cause the increases seen, however couple that with the push towards streaming subscriptions and reduction in new media/equipment has had a significant impact.

>>109086617ching chong?
Blu-ray players are dirt cheap. Blu-ray burners have been steadily increasing in price for about 10 years now since most normies moved to streaming.DVD-tier hardware is figuratively pennies and lots of people both have a larger DVD collection and aren't happy with Blu-ray's DRM shit. DVDs are still far more "popular" by volume. CDs/DVDs are just more bulletproof and usable.Anyway, if you're autistic enough to want a burner then $250 isn't exactly prohibitive for what is essentially a one-time purchase. Either you're ripping physical discs to digital or you're making MDISC backups and really the price shouldn't put you off if that's the case.Just get an internal ASUS burner off aliexpress for $140 and stick it in an external enclosure.
Shit, I'm glad I put aside one or two BDR drives.
>>109086599How does your retarded ass think the BRs are ripped in the first place?
>>109088349Do I really have to rely on the seamstar-1188 store to get a drive under $100?

>>109086572blu-ray is stupidly expensive with overkill quality that most movies don't need, I wish hd-dvd survived since 1080p has proved to be enough
>>109089587Every TV is 4K now. Why wouldn't I want all my movies to be 4K when that's the native resolution of my TV?

>>109087527Stupid fuck
I've never owned a Blu Ray player or drive, but I got gifted a box set so I'm looking to rip it.What shoud I look out for in a drive?

>>109086572putting the role "AI" is playing in price dynamics aside, when the total market value of a good shrinks significantly, and the bulk production lines are largely no more, but individual items are still highly sought after, the price of these individual items always go a lot higher.you must be either a retard or a literal 10 year old to never have experienced this.i mean, even in the computer parts markets, you can take RAMs as an example. you always had (pre-AI) the latest_generation-1 as the cheapest. then it wasn't rare for the latest generation to be the second cheapest, with the more-than-one-generation-ago old units being the priciest. this concerns the "brand new" markets. the "used" markets may have slightly different dynamics, which is in part why anons directed you there. it's not just used == cheaper.
>>109086587They've had exploits for a while so this isn't new.Blue ray manufacturing is down so prices go up. I'm sure the parts are also in demand for hdd and ram
