Are phone calls dead and obsolete technology?
>>
>>109091706
my mom still calls me
>>
>>109091706
maybe if you're unemployed
>>
I use the phone at work all the time to call my coworker while he's on the floor and I'm on cameras
>>
I talked to my gf on the phone for 6 hours the other night :)
>>
>>109091706
I get like 10 spam calls a day and 1 legit call a month.
so you tell me.
>>
>>109091706
you can get a job without making a phone
you need a camera more than a working phone
>>

Unironically yes, VOIP absolutely one-shotted the telephone. Absolutely absurd that spoofing a number is as cheap as spending a few rupies so every Rajeesh on Earth can do it.
There should be some widely adopted system with cryptographically secure id verification. It would completely eliminate the need for this "answering machine" architecture we put in place fucking everywhere. I shouldn't be on the phone navigating a menu for 8 minutes just to talk to a human being.

your mom still calls me as well

Since 4G ar least, even regular phone calls are technically IP-based.

>phone at work
Usefull to pretend to be busy. If you do it on your cell phone, it looks like you're handling private matters instead, and get a mean look.

>spam calls
My phone is on airplane mode all of the time, with just wifi. Sometimes I need to use mobile data, it's also on silent mode, so I just see missed calls from spammy numbers afterwards when shutting it back down to airplane mode.

>My phone is on airplane mode all of the time, with just wifi.
Why even bother carrying a mobile phone around then?
>>
>>109093026
When I need to talk to someone, I connect to wifi or turn off airplane mode and send them a message? I don't understand the confusion.
>>
>>109092965
I'm trans by the way, if that matters.
>>
>>109091706
Not at all. If you need to discuss something actually important and need immediate feedback, it's still the best form of long-distance communication.
>hurrrr how come you didn't see my text
>oooh i thought you meant <retarded shit> by that old message
Calling avoids all these issues altogether.

Now, voice messages? They fucking suck. They combine the worst of both worlds.
>>
>>109091706
Nowadays it's just Helen Keller dead mute that is designed to harvest your voice to scam your relatives with.
>>
>>109092965
I am in an office where nobody sees me and the person I am calling is meant to look like a normal person shopping inside the store.
