>want to upgrade from cellular to fiber>you will use our proprietary ISP router and you WILL pay for itWhat form of humiliation ritual is this?
>>109091969https://trzepak.pl/viewtopic.php?t=51177Don't let the technician in unless he has an ONT, and also contact UOKiK and UKE over this shit so that they'll finally force all ISP's to cease this bullshit and let us use our own hardware like in Western Europe. Fuckers purposefully misrepresented the UE directive that was meant to thwart this bullshit so that the ISP's would still be able to force their shit down your throat. If all else fails, Orange doesn't cause issues if you use a cloned LEOX ONT on their network. And if the fiber infrastructure isn't Orange's, then you'll likely be getting a separate ONT by default, as was my case with Nexera being the owner of the infrastructure.
shithole of residence? after many years the faggots in charge here in bumfuck netherlands finally caved in and forced freedom of modem device. forcing isp routers is the ultimate form of tech cuckoldery.
>>109092703>Don't let the technician in unless he has an ONTI'm banking on bringing this up considering I forgot to ask about installation of a separate ONT while on the phone with the lady on the phone.> and also contact UOKiK and UKE over this shit so that they'll finally force all ISP's to cease this bullshit and let us use our own hardware like in Western EuropeI checked online and I was surprised to find out that our ISPs here have managed to circumvent this mandate. It's an ironic thing.>If all else fails, Orange doesn't cause issues if you use a cloned LEOX ONT on their network.I did some digging and I also discovered MAC cloning and these LEOX devices, though I also read that you can get banned from some providers like Netia if you try to use your own ONT hardware.> And if the fiber infrastructure isn't Orange's, then you'll likely be getting a separate ONT by default, I think I'm in luck, because while figuring out why I'd be paying 122 złoty brutto I discovered that the 600Mb/s fiber optic cable infrastructure in my distant corner of Warsaw does not belong to Orange and is in fact leased by them. I don't remember who the cable infrastructure belongs to though if it was Netia or if it was another company by a similar name. I need to find a way to check it so I'll probably ask again or my neighbors.
>>109092875If you read on Trzepak, Netia goes nuclear on anyone not using their shit, it's the type of shit that people should fucking harass UOKiK to slap down. By comparison Orange is local ISP levels of cool. Also if you get an ONT, keep in mind that you may be paying a rent fee for the Funbox if they end up forcing it on you. In my case the agreement was signed with the lease being free so that's just gathering dust in a box while a MikroTik runs the show. Roughly half a minute from a cold boot to full operation compared to the Funbox that'd take minutes to establish a connection.
>>109091969>ips niggas connect their own shitbox>once he leaves I connect it to a mini pc, which goes to an APnot seeing the issue. Clearly providing a router for the 98% of customers that don’t have one on their own is a sensible choice?
>>109092948>keep in mind that you may be paying a rent fee for the Funbox if they end up forcing it on you.Supposedly they do force you to accept the Funbox 6 and the rent free regardless as to whether you use it or not when I talked. Along with those 40 something television channels.
>>109091969is this a Europe thing? in the US i just decline to use the ISP router and have my own router + WAP
>>109091969Why do i get 600mbps on my phone wifi but my pc can only do 100 cabled?
>>109093481>my pc can only do 100 cabled?Sounds like your LAN connection is fucked somewhere and you're not getting the full gigabit. May be a fucked cable, may be that whatever is in the network path is 100Mbps instead of 1Gbps, like the switch.
>>109091969Because it's more than enough for 99.9% of the population. Why should they give a fuck about a tiny minority of transsexuals tech autists?
>>109093518Yea, the cable is quite an old one. I should buy a new one. I've looked everywhere on my pc for this lan switch and cant find it anywhere.
>>109093518>>109093640Obviously not everywhere* lol
>>109093481My phone from 2021 can do 4G/LTE+ at 150 megabits down on my speed test near the tower compared to my E3372h-153 plugged into my TL-MR3420 V2 which can max out at 40 down and 30 up in direct line of sight of the tower. Cellular category, carrier aggregation, modem specification, all play a role there but you're probably just stuck with a 100mbit ethernet port on your router or computer or using an ethernet cable category that isn't going to hit gigabit speeds. Get a cat 6 cable if you ask me just to be safe incase some 5e cables can't hit gigabit speeds.
>>109093712OK, thanks. They changed the connection from a phone socket to a dedicated internet one and plugged the modem in. Cant remember if it was the same modem as before but it should be capable right? It does 600mbps to my phone which is what I pay for. The cable is also quite long and I just looked and some of the sheathing is off but the insulation kn the wires is still fine. Its plugged in, goes out of the crack of a window which is left open enough for the wire and attached to the outside of the house and into the bedroom window which has been fully closed (which opened the sheathing) and then about 2 or 3 metres wrapped into a coil and then 1 metre to my pc. The sheathing from the connection is partly off too but id have though as long as the wires are still insulated the signal is fine. Gonna order a new cable in the morning and think about a more respectable length than 20 metres.
>>109093640The switch is a separate device, so if you can't find it it means that it's not the issue. You likely have your PC connected directly to the router, the cable is busted and a stable 1Gbps connection cannot be established so it bumps down to 100Mbps.
>>109093184>once he leaves I connect it to a mini pc, which goes to an APONT goes to the router they bring, you can put that one into a closet theoretically and use your own router. But where are you going to get a router with an optical in?
>>109093757>switch is a separate deviceAh, it always was explained as if it was in the properties of internet connection. But you're probably right, cable is worse for wear.>pc connected to the router It is, i assumed that was always the best way and have always done it that way since i started using the internet. Fingers crossed a new cable works as I had to wait 3 or 4 hours for a 100gb download, annoying as fuck. Cheers, pal.
>>109093801Yeah I doubt your router is 100Mbps and you likely have a 1Gbps network card integrated on your motherboard if you've bought it in the last decade and a half. That would mean that the cable is the issue. You can quickly verify that in the network settings. The actual speed of the network card is usually a part of it's displayed name, in my case it's a 2.5Gbps one, then you have the aggregated, or established link speed. Mine is 1000/1000, which indicates a Gigabit connection, which is correct, it's hooked up to the switch which is 1Gbps. That then goes to the router, but that's a complexity I added to be able to do VLAN filtering. I don't need more than that as my Internet speed is below 1Gbps and I don't have a home network big enough to need 2.5Gbps or 10Gbps of local speed for NAS file transfers and whatnot.
>>109093826Yea my mobo is a b850 asus prime with a 7800x3d. Im sure it says 2.5gbe but only 100/100mbps and cant find where to change it.
>>109093826>>109093846
>>109093846>cant find where to change itBy default, the devices you connect negotiate the max speed they can transfer between each other. If it bops down to 100Mbps despite both devices supporting 1Gbps, that means the cable is busted. For example one of the eight wires inside the cable is busted, or there is damage to the shielding that ruins signal integrity so the devices decide on establishing a 100Mbps connection for the sake of establishing *a* connection. The cable is the most common issue here, and they're not expensive. Anyone who did networking ever will know how to make one from scratch, useful when wiring up buildings so that you do the wiring first and finish up the connectors after. Bonus points if somehow you're using a cable that's only wired for four pins and not all eight, you can check by looking at the ends and the amount of colored wires in the plug. If it has all eight, that means the cable got damaged somewhere and that's what's causing the lack of 1Gbps.
>>109093388Germany has a law for "router freedom". They have to provide all data and specs to make the connection yourself, including VOIP logins.
>>109093846Either you have ultra garbage cable with only 2 pairs instead of 4, damaged cable or the router has 100mbit only LAN ports.>>1090938771GbE is very resilient, it will work on the shittiest cable possible on a short distance as long as it's physically connected
>>109093877Thank you, this is very insightful and not unappreciated. I've tried everything advised except for a new cable. In your opinion would 20 metres degrade the signal so bad? The closest way from modem to pc is out of the window and in through the bedroom one. Im capable of wiring cables up if I have a diagram of where the coloured wires go. Not sure if buying a spool is worth it lol unless I keep replacing fuckedbup cables.
>>109093912IIRC Cat5 1Gbps copper is up to 100m, but with 20m it's very likely that the cable got busted at some point of it's length which caused the degradation. The longer the cable, the more cable surface that could get crushed or cut or damaged in some other way, laws of nature and all that.
>>109093904Modem port says gig ethernet, and the cable is cat5e with 8 wires and 4 pairs?
>>109093939Then that's up to spec, but most likely still a broken cable somewhere, but for example I run 1GbE between 2 floors so 20+m with a cable that's been soldered in multiple places, shielding is non existent and pairs are untwisted in some areas and it works absolutely fine.
>>109093963Yea, we're gonna have to go with busted cable. Been up for about 5 years now id say so weather might also have fucked it. Should I get the 6e cable or just a 5e? Im pretty poor so savings anywhere are welcome
>>109093977Depends on the environment and how easy it is to replace, CAT 5E is fine for indoor 1GbE but I'd probably run CAT 6A these days to be more future proof.
>>109092875AT&T fiber in the use requires the use of their gateway/router, but there is a method to bypass it with an SFP converter. It might be worth looking into that method.
>>109093904>it will work on the shittiest cable possible on a short distance as long as it's physically connectedSomehow I've bumped into 5e's and 6's that are not up to spec, but maybe that's cause Eastern Europe gets the B-stock still.
>>109094117I think they sometimes make cables based on "draft specs" before the specs are fully finalized. While in theory they should work fine, sometimes they dont. They do the same thing with wifi routers.
If you're using fiber but don't want the ISP company router isn't it logical to literally just buy the cheapest WiFi 6 and 7 router with gigabit ethernet support even if it doesn't have a SIM card slot? Assuming the ONT has an RJ-45 out.
>>109091969Can't you just speak to them and tell them to bridge it because you want to use your own router? That's what I did with my current ISP, their all-in-one box now just works as an ONT, fiber goes in, regular Ethernet comes out, that's all. By default they would've set it up with WiFi and all that shit because most normalfags probably don't have the know-how to set up their own network so the ISP brings in their whole package, but you can tell them to turn that shit off.
>>109093784>But where are you going to get a router with an optical in?ASUS RT-BE88U and any other sfp router
>>109094256>ASUS RT-BE88U a>$300The hell do you need this for, over something that's $50 when your fiber is 600 megabits at best? Just get a Cudy P5 at that point if you're spending that much on a rooter.
>>109091969Can you not just run a phone line from the ONT?
>109093564(You)
>>109092703>trzepak.plSorry I don't speak TEMU silicone injections, it's also geoblocked.
>>109093996Sorry, i fell asleep. The cable is easy to replace, its nailed to the brickwork just under the guttering so it's a casenifbtaking it down and running new cable along the same route. Might even invest in some plastic cable routing for weather protection.

I have a modem-router hybrid provided by the ISP, which I just set to bridging mode and use my own router hooked on it.
Should you drill fiber throughout as much the house as possible even past the ONT or just use ethernet all the way?
