why is that such an impossibility for it not to just reshuffle the existing videos? why must my homepage be refreshed 7+ times just for *one* new video to pop up?
Is this some kind of unsolved problem in computer science or what?

i remember back in the day youtube felt like an endless stream of new videos. What the fuck happened?
>>
this board has this naive belief that all this bullshit is designed for you and your benefit
>>
>>109093875
It's entirely up to YouTube's algorithm which is a ML black box.
If the algorithm has a video it thinks would keep you engaged, and it believes you are likely to click on that video eventually if it gets recommended to you 10 times, it will just keep recommending it, until your behavior stops signalling that you will for long enough that it picks up on the pattern.
It knows you better than you do.
>>
>>109093892
Speak for yourself
>>
>>109093892
but i literally dont care for any of the videos its recommending me. If i ever click on one of them its simply because im so bored and i'e refrshed 7 times already

im not joking youtube is literally just reshuffling the order of the same 10 videos on my homepage each refresh.
>>
>>109093875
It's called overfitting. Your narrow autistic interests don't feed the algorithm enough variety for it to diversify its suggestions, so it remains stuck at a "local minimum" basin of attraction, suggesting the same 10 my little pony vids or whatever. If you want to wake it up, manually search for different, unusual things to watch and engage with them
>>
>>109093910
>If i ever click on one of them its simply because im so bored
That's why it keeps happening kek.
Literally the platform does not care whether you're bored, happy, mad, or whatever. You are being played for a fool.
>>
>>109093910
>im going to outsmart it
You wont. It know exactly what it needs to do to get you to do whatever the (((advertisers))) paid for.
>>
>>109093917
>>109093923
i see. So you're saying if i start manually seaching for things i'll get out of this slump?
>>
>>109093928
Generally yeah the algorithm will see that you are looking for different kinds of videos.
The fact you need to be told this is alarming though, your brain is fried if you don't ever just search for things on your own, you just click what is served to you and get stuck when it's not entertaining.
>>
>>109093937
why the fuck wouldn't the aglorithm at least randomize the feed a little so it doesn't get stuck?

>your brain is fried if you don't ever just search for things on your own
i'll search for things if im ever looking for anything in particular but primarily i use youtube as entertainment. I'd argue your brain is more fried if you can just search for a generic type of video and actually be entertained by whatever slop is fed you. Im selective.
>>

So... are you the same zoomer as in that other thread with the homestuck writing quirk?

You need to make a new youtube account in a seperate container tab and use it for only the type of shit you want to watch. If you accidentally watch something garbage, remove it from your watch history. If you want to watch garbage, copy the link and watch it on another account.
Works pretty well for me, I mostly get art content on my art-watching only youtube account.

world war 3 started in mid-late 2019 and we've all been silently fighting it

they have to destroy the algo to prevent chinese, russian, and iranian bots from scraping, and all of the tech is top secret and under NDA so they cant tell us anything
>>
The algorithm isn't real
Everyone popular is fake or has been for over a decade
The consequences of actual monopolistic behavior and google using their position as the top end of web indexing to intentionally murder competitors.
The analytics aren't even real as is violently apparent by how little organic reach there is outside of the website when a 10k viewer ytmnd fad would literally be world wide news.
>>
>>109093875
Not a technical problem.
Youtube pays jack shit and all the authentic unc-llenials who made the site fun years ago have effectively retired.
Now it’s too overcrowded with AIslop essays and private equity “e-brands” that it’s impossible to find anyone authentically fun anymore.
Tiktok was better and allowed more organic e-celebs like caseoh to have a chance at being discovered, but “they” forced them to sell tiktok so it could also be enshitified.
>>
Probably jeet incompetence honestly.
>>
>>109093875
>new videos
you don't want to see new videos. they suck.
>>
>>109093952
I think youtube only gives you so many hours of actual quality content per week then puts your algo on hold to reduce your view hours and content expectations on purpose.
>>
>>109094633
honestly i'm starting to think that too because sometimes it does seem to give new recommendations but just for a short while
>>
>>109093875
Advertisers aren't smart. They're entirely focused on cramming ads into more spaces while never analyzing their vast databases to actually target anything.
>>
>>109094039
>logging in to YT
wew lad
>>
>>109094633
If they wanted to reduce your view hours they wouldn't autoplay random shit all night when you fall asleep on the couch.
>>
>>109094039
Just use a faggotmonkey script instead.
>>
>>109093875
The algorithm is actually meta gaming you on the highest level. It completed it's objective. Keep you on the site for as long as physically possible. Yeah, your constant refreshing of the site has fulfilled the required condition.
>>
>>109095256
That objective would make sense if I weren't blocking ads.
>>
>>109095272
There are other revenue streams, keeping you in the Google ecosystem, individual channel subscriptions. Harvesting your entire account's data for information to sell to third parties. Attention is the main currency. Keeping one more customer around costs Google next to nothing.
>>
>>109095282
I never log in so I can't subscribe to anything. I'm sure they still track me but I'm an anonymous data point.
>>
>>109093892
Then it does a shitty job, because I am sick of watching their bullshit.

People on parties still play the same Freddy Mercury, Bryan Addams, Madonna slop over and over thoughbeit.

There is nothing to sell, nothing Id buy.

>>109093884
> designed for me? lmao they can't even get the search bar to work half the time

The youtube algorithm has been shit for over 10 years now.
It doesn't recommend interesting videos anymore, it just gives everyone the same mass produced garbage.
>>
>>109093910
>youtube is literally just reshuffling the order of the same 10 videos
Lucky for you that it even reshuffles
>>
>>109093884
I listen to a lot of classical. And 10+ years ago I got a bunch of recommends of obscure composers and works. In the same late-romantic fashion I was looking for. So it can work great.
>>
>>109093892
It's actually attempting to influence your behaviour through recommending videos that lead you down seperate rabbit holes to arive at whatever conclusion it wants.

Never ever trust algorythms in tech that demands your atention and ad revenue or are connected to certain organizations.
Remember, if it's free you are the product.
>>
>>109093910
>im not joking youtube is literally just reshuffling the order of the same 10 videos on my homepage each refresh.
that's because you aren't taking part in the reprogramming punishment course that was custom tailored for you.

the same 8 videos will be put in your homescreen till morale improves (and you learn your lesson)
>>
>>109093937
the videos provided are all trash though.

content creators just repeating the same old thing that everyone else is doing.
>i built a zombie survival bunker
>i built a survival shelter in a forest
>i built a survival shelter in an island
and they're all just doing the exact same thing, not even building a shelter.

like that one guy from "primitive technology", he's not "building a surival shelter", he's breaking down the process needed to understand WHY certain things were done, how they work, and which method is better.

in his small channel he has done more than all the channels that have coppied his content, and its better because its him doing it for the love of the game, not to make content in order to make money.

content creators ruined the internet, and web 2.0 didn't do it any favors by giving them a platform

we should've gatekept the internet to wizards only >:(
