anon build your own mini server rack, right?
>>
yes and i haven't used it for anything because my network gear is all in a 19 inch rack. i'd like to find a use for it at some point but for now it's sitting on my shelf waiting for me. i 3d printed mine, there's a shitload of stls out there for parts like dell micro shelves, patch panels etc. there's probably even more, higher quality stls available than when i made mine a year ago.
>>
no. i'm poor and live in a studio apartment
>>
>>109095192
is that using that subscription switch?
>>
>>109095192
That was the plan but I ended up with a 4U Silverstone case and a random collection of mini PCs so they all sit on top of each other in a rat's nest of cat 6
>>
>>109095192
no
>>
>>109095265
This. But if I had more money (>0), I'd just buy the hardware now and store it at my friend's house.

I don't want to dust the thing everyday so I made it like this

there's a poe switch, router and a rpi inside
>>
>>109095192
whatever you're doing with that cute little switch in the middle is probably like some little white girl surrounded by a bunch of black dudes. there's no way she's capable of handling that much bandwidth all at the same time.

Shalom

Nice AI image faggot
>>
>>109095928
I haven't built one yet, but I want to put a bunch of PIs in there that I can easily turn on/off and disconnect from the network, to test fault tolerant distributed software.
I could of course do that with VMs but this is more fun.

My old job had something like that as a kubernetes demonstrator.

I went to a new construction home show last year and every home had a server rack in the upstairs closet.

In the event of the home show it was to for the home speaker system, the remote control for ambient lighting, and the mediia server for the home theater.

You do know that the IKEA LACK Table has exactly 19" between the legs?
My entire server resides in an IKEA LACK Table. I call it the IKEA RACK.
>>
>>109095192
Use case?
>>
>>109097401
Do you screw the servers into the plywood directly?
>>
>>109095192
nah I don't like racks, reminds me of work and wageslaving.
>>
>>109095192
I had rack back in the day but decided I don't really like it so switched back to non-rack non-enterprise stuff.
Still have 4U case for "server", I'm emotionally attached to it but it just sits on floor as regular tower.
I mean it's kinda cool but I don't have patience and will to deal with that stuff, have other things going on.

Like this guy has cool as fuck basement setup but I could never do something on that scale.

>>109095192
I'm not a networking person, but it looks like he is wasting a lot of slots
>>
>>109095192
i have a bunch of pi's. i don't need 2000 watts idling doing nothing all day.
i have an r630 with dual xeon 2699's that i toy with for fun.

I have to deal with this shit all day at work I don’t want to fuck with it at home too.
>>
>>109098261
Usecase for filling all the slots?

Anyway, he's actually filling it quite well, idk where these wasted slots you speak of are. Regardless you don't normally have every last U filled because you want some heat dissapation and airflow. Sometimes achieved by running patch cords through a U towards the rear.
>>
>>109098475
I meant the ethernet ports. Very confusing
Aren't they supposed to be connected to servers? It looks like they're doing a whole lot of nothing desu.
>>
>>109095192
Why would I need one? My gaymen PC does everything.
>>
My entire house is wired on cat5e, and i still dont see the need for making a server.
My synology 920+ is pretty much my homeserver anyway, everything is on it, homeassisnt, my cameras, my storage, etc...
>>
>>109097448
>>109097522
Funny how that shit works.
I bought home bunch of decommissioned racks and rack parts from work thinking i would set it up at my house and garage.
Haven't touched them in years... i should just put them up for sale on FB marketplace.
>>
>>109095265
Why does it matter that you're in an apartment? Are they loud?
>>
>>109098643
>synology 920+
That's basically it. Used synology but hardware is so expensive that I "upgraded" to xpenology running as vm inside proxmox.
>>
>>109095192
It's 19 inch square mount for me or nothing.
Threaded Screw Fags are retarded when it comes to rack
>Strip the hole
>Now you're fucked forever.
Cage nuts are the way to go.
