Why doesn't Linux just port and use Wordperfect? I'm sure it's in public domain by now.
>>109097370linux is a kernel. linux devs don't develop applications.but you're free to do it yourself.
>>109097428I'm a Windows user and you're retarded.
>>109097370>I'm sure it's in public domain by now.Nah. It's currently owned by Corel and copyright lasts almost a century. Ask again in the 2080s.
>>109097530Maybe Linux can buy the copyright. It can't be very expensive.
>>109097636Nobody wants wordperfect. I wouldn't even use if you payed me.
>>109097701A lot of people do. Lawyers for example. Many more would if they knew what it was capable of.
>>109097370https://tldp.org/FAQ/WordPerfect-Linux-FAQ/downloadwp8.htmlYou can close the thread now.
>>109098030Yeah my stepmother would it, she spent her career as a legal secretary and still talks about fucking wordperfect all the time.
>>109097370taviso/wpunix - it's there
>>109097370OP clearly has never used WordPerfect. It's the worst stinking pile of poo. It's so annoying to use that it makes Microsoft Word seem good by comparison. If one *must* revive an old word processor program to Linux, pick WordStar. Now there's a program from back in the day that was good. Bonus: it was available for CP/M as well as MS-DOS!Oooo, or Perfect Writer. That was another great one from the CP/M days. Oh wait, PW was already ported to Linux. It's called Emacs nowadays. :)
>>109098828Your lack of clarity regarding the crowd and general population that you're participating in is strange.
Corel did try to make a Linux distro at one point, but it had limited hardware support and it was just customised KDE 1.
>>109097370>Why doesn't Linux just port and use Wordperfect?lol>>109097636>Maybe Linux can buy the copyright.LMAO
>>109097370why do any of that when you can just run it perfectly in wine. or any other version of wordperfect at that. or most other programs not made for linux. lmao
>>109097370looks like a text editorwhy would a kernel need that
>>109099268>just use wine>just do this workaround>just never come up with a native ecosystemThis is why Linux will never succeed.
>>109099501"ecosystem" is why people run away from microsoft google and apple you stupid faggot. nobody in their right mind wants to be in a cage aka an ecosystem. running sudo pacman -S wine once and then double clicking on wordperfect on your desktop forever is hardly a workaround.
>>109097530>and copyright lasts almost a centurythan the mouse
>>109097370It's not even in the public domain and if it was it's not open source.
>>109099522>nobody wants apps that are made for your OS >that's why Linux is superior, because it has nothingholy openfag cope
>>109099501Yeah you're right the internet never took off
>>109099669Yes it is
>>109098030>>109098139Reveal Codes is a hell of a drug.

>>109099845>>109099813>another bad faith argument faggot farming (yous)fuck off tourist
AI should be able to shit out a good rip off of WP
>>109099924It'd be clunky and shitty. We just need to get rid of modern computers altogether
wordperfect... sounds like a wordstar clone.
>the original *nix killer app
>>109099501Native ports of games on Linux are such a stinking pile of shit, Valve figured it was easier to just use Proton to get them working.
>>109098828Good lord you are ignorant of Wordperfect. Today WP is second rate compared to modern WYSIWYG Word Processors, but back in the late 1980s, Wordperfect completely dominated the market with a combination of good features, good programming (part of the program is coded in assembly and C) and it could make an old computer do a LOT with very little RAM. In the DOS era, the operating system did not handle printer drivers; the software had to do it. WordPerfect shipped with a massive library of drivers that supported practically every printer on the market, allowing it to easily drive early laser printers and complex typesetting systems. Then there were the fucking Macros and the responsive key codes to do tasks.
Has already existed for years.https://github.com/taviso/wpunix
>>109099522an ecosystem doesn't imply a walled garden, retard.
>>109098030> they don't know because they're too busy billing hours to read a manualmost people are fine being mediocre at their job, that's the real bottleneck
>>109097530Didn't they release the source? I could swear WordPerfect (or WordStar?) was open-sourced. But it's a DOS program, so you'd have to convert it to modern terminal/command-line systems from DOS. At that point why would you use WordPerfect/Star/DOS programs over word processing that is perfectly serviceable right now?
>>109099189> corel linux was just kde 1 with a coat of paint and no drivers.
>>109099189>The Linux kernel 2.2.12 didn't have fantastic hardware supportColor me surprised.>Distros are just the same kernel and userland with a few different applications and usability tweaks.Yeah thats right
>>109097370why not just use it in Dosbox?
>>109098828If I could resurrect one obsolete office program, it'd be ClarisWorks.
>>109097370I would rather use WordStar.
>>109102595those UI elements on the left and the bottom still look more sane than GIMP, QT and GTK3+
>>109099501>why Linux will never succeedSucceed at what? Attracting retarded normies who just want windows or macos without microsoft or apple? Great, it doesn't need to succeed then quite the opposite.
>>109102595This might very well be the only Apple-based software that looks like SOVL.
>>109097370use DOS emulatorit practically public domain by now
