I'm currently using an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2310 @ 2.90GHz and it can run games like Counter-Strike 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 perfectly at smooth FPS rates, unlike the searches that say its only for work or web application use. Anyone else using an "obsolete" CPU?

my 5600 is considered "old" and somewhere below "budget" if you go buy pcbg

> i5-2310
that's nowhere near obsolete
>>
>>109098116 for me i dont think that it is but since its 15 years old they say it is

realizing this gave me a sinking feeling in my stomach
>>
>>109098003
wtf, in a thread dedicated to new pc builds?!?
It doesn't even do 60fps in new gaymes
>>
Still rocking a Phenom II Hexacore. I was going to do a refresh to something much more current but then memory prices went insane and I can't reuse the DDR3 in this machine for anything modern. Think my cell phone might have more processing power than my desktop CPU.
>>
>>109097995
guarantee you your fps is not smooth. modern windows requires an 8 core cpu to split device interrupts to prevent lag.
>>
>>109097995
monster hunter world was 100% maxing my 2600k and this was like almost 10 years ago.

wrong board, retard.

yeah, bout that

I have the 2x8 dual xeon meme setup and it's fucking awesome. Some games don't like it but it runs Deadlock well enough and my GPU may be the bigger bottleneck.
>>
>>109097995
I used a Core 2 Quad for nearly 2 decades until I purchased a Ryzen 4700G and I plan to use this for at least 15 years.

not modern gaming. just running modern os.

My Pentium 200 w/MMX runs Nesticle fine.

No. Obsolete technology isn't just old—it's useless. The future is in AI and subscription devices. Get with the times or be left behind—permanently.

Skylake Master Race.

CPUs usually become obsolete when the majority of software mandates incompatible instructions such as SSE or 64-bit.

Yeah im using the 5700x3d which is on a dead platform, 10 years old at this point.
It works ok, it struggles with ray tracing games since RT is so CPU heavy, not to mention its GPU overhead...

128-bit CPUs when?

I'm browsing /pol/ in Firefox and have a dozen other programs open and running with all my cores manually turned down to 800 MHz on pic related. It works great.

My cpu is 7 years old at this point but still feels modern, progress is not what it used to be but that's ok.

My main laptop is a Core 2 duo T9550, still works pretty good if you run something with XFCE.

4th gen xeon still ok

i have a pbo tuned and manual ram 5700X and it couldn't hold 60 fps in stalker 2
proton version was up to date

I'm using a 3Ghz Hyperthreaded Pentium 4. Unfortunately, it struggles to even do web browsing. Can't play HD video either without a GPU to do all the heavy lifting.
>>
>>109098866
What would I use any of that for?

i7920@4.2ghz. bitch refuses to die.

I would argue for AVX2 as a x86_64 basis, so Haswell forward (usual Intel exceptions notwithstanding).
>>
>>109097995
>smooth FPS rates
>L4D2
that's like a 20 year old game right
what is "smooth FPS rates" to you? 40?

even ULV parts beat a 2310 nowadays, an N97 would shred that at 10x lower wattage
>>
>>109097995
>run games like Counter-Strike 2 and Left 4 Dead 2
Old games.
>>
>>109107054
If you don't play modern games, then SSE2 is still enough. Most software still supports building for it.
>>
>>109107452
Closer to 15 years old.

>>109107683
CS2 is only a couple years old.
>>
>>109097995
>this thing that worked for its time period works on computationally time period applicable things
Wow you cracked the universe's code, we got a super einstein over here.

Meanwhile my 9800x3d and rtx 4080 can do 400fps csgo2 and only burn 200 watts whole system while your ancient pos is doing 100fps at 250.
>>
>>109108018
The human mind can't see beyond 30fps. This was proven by xbox.
>>
>>109108018
Its not like games are the only thing you do with a computer.
>>
>>109097995
I use an i5 ivy or haswell or something and it's fine too. CPUs haven't really mattered since they hit the speed limit. Can't parallelize most shit.
GPU "improvement" continues because you CAN parallelize but it's bad as well since it comes at higher power draw...
