You can try using the older ntfs-3g driver instead of the newer ntfs3 driver (yes they really named them like this) to mount and read the drive. If you ever stick to it be prepared to spend your days "fixing" those issues (read as: giving up after hours of troubleshooting and coping with the bad experience).
