Answer is once and for all. Is light mode or dark mode better?
What is /g/ using on their devices?
>>
light mode in sunlight, dark mode otherwise
>>
OLED = dark
LCD = either is fine
>>
Whatever the default is
>>

I only like dark mode for UI/UX elements, so borders, banners and header bars or whatever they are called. Anything with a lot of text to read has to be white background with black text or just some sort of light colored background, if it is the reverse and a dark background with light text my eyes get fucked up.

Mostly dark
>>
>>109101218
whatever is opposite of the current thing, so light mode

light makes me happy! some desktops on linux do not even feature a light mode anymore...
>>
>>109101218
Counterintuitively, dark mode often makes users crank up the brightness, on LCD that means more power consumption.

interesting

I like medium

I have eye floaters and would not be able to use my PC without dark mode everywhere
>>
>>109101633
how does one get "eye floaters"?
>>
>>109101815
Random degradation of the vitreous space in the eyeball, usually genetic but can apparently also occur from head trauma. I've had mine since I was like 12, they just appeared one day and never diminished at all.
>>
>>109101838
can they be removed?
>>
light during the day dark during the night
>>
>>109101815
Getting older will do it. The trick though is to get used to them, not go to great lengths to avoid anything that makes them visible.
>>
>>109101218
Dark mode for battery life. It's been tested.
>>
>>109101846
Not really, that deep into your eyeball isn't something you can fuck with. There's some extremely invasive snake oil surgeries but I'd hope most people do not even consider it unless it's so bad they want to roll the dice on going blind (or just making it worse). Apparently research is undergoing into better methods though.

No, they're again: genetic/old age. https://www.aao.org/eye-health/diseases/what-are-floaters-flashes

Dark mode is bad for your eyes.
>>
>>109101218
Dark
>>
Whatever you decide on your test environment should be a well lit room. If you default to dark mode because you turned off every light in your room besides the monitor you're creating a problem for yourself and mitigating it with dark mode.
>>

>>109102546
Why darkmode is bad for your eye? I suppose staring at a light bulb is what should be harmful.
>>
>>109101218
Dark mode if you’re a loser staring at a screen all day
Light mode otherwise
>>
>>109101218
Dark as it's just easier on the eyes for me.
>>
What happened? Shouldn't AI let us have wild custom themes applied automatically to everything?
>>
>>109101218
Light mode is objectively superior and more readable, especially in well-lit rooms. It allows you to decrease the brightness of the screen and the eyes feel less stress when trying to decipher letters. There are scientific studies proving this.
Dark mode (also known as nigger mode) is only useful if you are a redditor or work in completely dark rooms.

Was a darkie for most of my life, but I've come to see the light. The second you live somewhere that has sunlight, dark mode just isn't enough and when it is dark, light mode works with less brightness, which usually allows for longer battery life

You're being conditioned to accept fewer and fewer choices.

when i read for awhile in darkmode i get white lines in my vision.

> light mode user spotted

gnome and kde both have light themes, you just have to look past the default.

I use dark mode on all my devices cause I have keratoconus and it's easier for me to see white on black than the opposite.
>>
something i noticed at work is that juniors use dark mode and switch to light mode after a few years + almost all senior devs use light mode exclusively
myself i switched to light mode recently after 5 years, tried it out randomly when i was feeling sleepy in the office and kept using it afterwards
