Answer is once and for all. Is light mode or dark mode better? What is /g/ using on their devices?
light mode in sunlight, dark mode otherwise
OLED = darkLCD = either is fine
Whatever the default is
>>109101218I only like dark mode for UI/UX elements, so borders, banners and header bars or whatever they are called. Anything with a lot of text to read has to be white background with black text or just some sort of light colored background, if it is the reverse and a dark background with light text my eyes get fucked up.
>>109101218Mostly dark
>>109101218whatever is opposite of the current thing, so light mode
light makes me happy! some desktops on linux do not even feature a light mode anymore...
>>109101218Counterintuitively, dark mode often makes users crank up the brightness, on LCD that means more power consumption.
>>109101341interesting
>>109101218I like medium
>>109101218I have eye floaters and would not be able to use my PC without dark mode everywhere
>>109101633how does one get "eye floaters"?
>>109101815Random degradation of the vitreous space in the eyeball, usually genetic but can apparently also occur from head trauma. I've had mine since I was like 12, they just appeared one day and never diminished at all.
>>109101838can they be removed?
light during the day dark during the night
>>109101815Getting older will do it. The trick though is to get used to them, not go to great lengths to avoid anything that makes them visible.
>>109101218Dark mode for battery life. It's been tested.
>>109101846Not really, that deep into your eyeball isn't something you can fuck with. There's some extremely invasive snake oil surgeries but I'd hope most people do not even consider it unless it's so bad they want to roll the dice on going blind (or just making it worse). Apparently research is undergoing into better methods though.
>>109101846No, they're again: genetic/old age. https://www.aao.org/eye-health/diseases/what-are-floaters-flashes
Dark mode is bad for your eyes.
>>109101218Dark
Whatever you decide on your test environment should be a well lit room. If you default to dark mode because you turned off every light in your room besides the monitor you're creating a problem for yourself and mitigating it with dark mode.
>>109101248>>109102546Why darkmode is bad for your eye? I suppose staring at a light bulb is what should be harmful.
>>109101218Dark mode if you’re a loser staring at a screen all dayLight mode otherwise
>>109101218Dark as it's just easier on the eyes for me.
What happened? Shouldn't AI let us have wild custom themes applied automatically to everything?
>>109101218Light mode is objectively superior and more readable, especially in well-lit rooms. It allows you to decrease the brightness of the screen and the eyes feel less stress when trying to decipher letters. There are scientific studies proving this.Dark mode (also known as nigger mode) is only useful if you are a redditor or work in completely dark rooms.
>>109101218Was a darkie for most of my life, but I've come to see the light. The second you live somewhere that has sunlight, dark mode just isn't enough and when it is dark, light mode works with less brightness, which usually allows for longer battery life
>>109102938You're being conditioned to accept fewer and fewer choices.
>>109102657when i read for awhile in darkmode i get white lines in my vision.
>>109101289> light mode user spottedgnome and kde both have light themes, you just have to look past the default.
>>109103265> enjoy your 3 preset options and be grateful
>>109103265CHISELLED
I use dark mode on all my devices cause I have keratoconus and it's easier for me to see white on black than the opposite.
something i noticed at work is that juniors use dark mode and switch to light mode after a few years + almost all senior devs use light mode exclusivelymyself i switched to light mode recently after 5 years, tried it out randomly when i was feeling sleepy in the office and kept using it afterwards
