Actually let me rant about it. Discourse is the worst piece of software ever made. It downloads 100s of MBs of client-side JS, it's slow as shit, it had weird humiliation rituals for new users to gain post powers, shitty ass gamified achievements, overrides ctrl+f, its heavy as shit to run. All the alternatives are either from the 90s with a billion CVEs, paid per seat or just lacking. Can some retard make a good alternative?

The good alternative has always been MyBB. It has never needed to be replaced. It's still developed, but it might as well be finished and perfect software these days considering AI. It's literally perfect, can't go wrong with MyBB, I remember back when Ubuntu Forums was still running either vB or fucking phpBB

They are not agents of microsoft sent to destroy linux. lennart just happens to work in the industry. red hat has a massive influence over linux in general and so does the gnome foundation as well because they write the XDG standard. their influence doesn't force anything at all, it's just systemd, xdg, wayland, pipewire, they become standards and once a standard is entrenched it's hard to convince someone to build for something else. the biggest issue with the aforementioned is complexity but it's a non issue these days when automation is so easy.
