Mesh is just a routing strategy, and as such it's fine. It doesn't tell you anything about how the network is built.

If you're talking about using wireless backhaul between APs, it sucks and it's expensive to do correctly because every mesh node needs a dedicated radio for talking to the other APs. You're looking at $300-500 for the initial outlay, and if you want to keep it secure you're going to replace it every 5 years or whatever the vendor lifecycle is.
