attention all retards ITT
US federal law states that the consumer (that's you retard) can not be held liable for unauthorized charges on a credit card
this is a non issue, it literally does not matter
take two minutes to read your statement before you pay your balance. if there are charges you don't recognize, tell your bank and they will take them all off and send you a new card. its literally that easy

You know when I was 18 this was the justification I used to do credit card fraud. Then I watched a news report about how some woman had to deal with a bunch of bullshit from her bank after she found fraudulent charges on her statement. I felt like a dick and stopped doing that kind of activity. The law is supposed to protect consumers but corporations will do everything they can to make it difficult for that to actually happen. What are you going to do to stop them, sue them? If disputing charges is already hard imagine what that's going to be like.

That's not to say it's always going to be hard to do chargebacks. You just don't want to be relying on that. Putting your financial fate in the hands of people who may not give a fuck about you is a bad idea. You might also want to save that trump card for when you need it. Like my friend did when a pizza delivery was 3 hours late and he refused it but they charged him anyway.

i don't mean to suggest that you were wrong to stop committing fraud, but with stories like these you have to remember that most people are idiots. this is probably a woman who did not know ANYTHING about her bank account, what it means to have a line of credit, what her responsibilities were as a cardholder, what the law was, how to review her statement, or what to do when she discovers unauthorized charges.
i bet she probably reported it to the bank like 4 months after the unauthorized charges began, making it all but impossible for anyone to determine whether she is telling the truth or committing fraud herself.

>Then I watched a news report about how some woman had to deal with a bunch of bullshit from her bank after she found fraudulent charges on her statement
was probably her debit card or bank creds that got compromised as opposed to a proper credit card. disputing a credit card charge is the easiest thing in the world and your bank would only ever grief you if it kept happening and it looked like it was you defrauding them. i've even disputed charges with legitimate businesses who were dragging their feet on shipping and not communicating with me about it. lo and behold my refund is issued immediately. credit card companies look after you incredibly well as customers in this sense because they need you to feel safe using their product so you can run up debt on their extortionate rates. as long as you don't carry a balance on it having a credit card is an extremely valuable tool in combating jeets and shitty businesses.
>>
>>109107906

You have to accept the currency of your country. It doesn't have to be cash anywhere that I'm aware of. Unless it's a third world shithole using foreign currency because their own is a hyperinflated joke.
>>
>>109109172
it's only required as legal tender for DEBTS
eg. if you ate out and the bill comes and they don't wanna take your cash then that would be debt, no debt has been incurred when a store refuses to accept cash for transactions.

prepaid debit gift cards are swipe-only, everyone else is chip or tap to pay

walmart, the biggest retailer in the US refuses to enable tap to pay on their registers because they would lose out on being able to trace your cardholder name and card number to your entire purchase history and also your walmart.com account if you've ever used the same card number there, when you tap it just says "VISA CARDHOLDER" as a name.

The exact correct answer is:
1. Get a Chase card. Their ai is the best the best
2. Use phone or watch "tap". It's much more secure, because it passes a surrogate number, so you get surrogate# + "cryptogram"

And also lobby Congress to make surrogate#+"cryptogram" mandatory everywhere, ESPECIALLY ONLINE (where right now it's just not used, as you know).

some jeets fuck with the readers to force people to use the magstripe. with cards like what anon posted, it lets you see if the jeet has installed another head. there should only be one head in a valid reader but the problem with this approach is that a jeet can simply wire into the manufacturer's head and get the same data. magstripes should have been abandoned two decades ago but banks and whoever else insist on using them still.

only in a jeet establishment, anon. they do this shit all the time in every country. wouldn't be surprised if they were already being extorted lol

i first got a bank card around the same time chip and pin was introduced in my country (20 years ago) so using the magnetic strip was a rare occurance. these days contactless is so common that i don't remember the last time i even used the chip (as in inserting the card, contactless technically still uses the chip) outside of atms.

i have used a magnetic strip recently, but that's because it was a gift card and those are made cheaply so only have a magnetic strip

How much cash do you carry? Fucking food order for 3 people costs $100 now, you're going to pay that in cash? You'd have to carry $1000 to get through a week.
>>
>>109117649
i always have around $300 on me
>>
>>109117649
protip: you can add money to your wallet when you get home each day instead of carrying a weeks worth at all times
also consider moving if you're that worried about carrying $1000 on you, since that sounds like a shit hole
>>
>>109109172
Cash is the only legally binding way to pay in Germany. Everything else is optional.
Businesses can refuse card but they cannot refuse cash.

Swipe is still available at Walmart if the chip reader is busted and won't read your card. Happened to me a few days ago.
>>
>>109117999
Walmart also offers their own solution to the contactless thing: Walmart Pay. I know because I used to work at walmart and kept up with the shit the company was doing on OneWalmart and the WIRE. I used it, I thought Walmart+ was kind of shit. The tuition assistance was nice, I wish I had finished my MBA.

It's not a store card though they do offer one. You would put in your CC details on the site. The site stores it. On self checkout you get a bigger barcode on the display above the scale. At self checkout you would get a smaller one on the pinpad. You would then take your phone and scan the barcode. This would let you pay without having to carry your debit card. It's the same selling point that Apple used with iOS and Apple Pay, "now i no longer need to carry my wallet, just my phone is enough", personally I dislike putting all my eggs in one basket like that, but I don't carry a wallet, I carry a purse (sometimes) now.

Shit like Apple pay is immune to this type of thing because the auth tokens issued to your phone by the bank rotate automatically at the moment you make a purchase. You kind of think of it as ephemeral api keys that get issued in batches to safeguard against precisely this kind of skimming bullshit

Only because we keep coddling retards. My 40-something year old mom who has master's degree education still acts helpless with anything technical and still doesn't even want to add to pay to her phone despite always having the latest Samsung. As cliche and lazy as it sounds, old people truly are the source of many of our problems

Retard you said get more money when you get home which implies you don't get regular top-ups from your Bank or ATM (which requires a debit card or credit card of some type)

i don't know what you're thinking of, but all i'm saying is that you don't need to carry all of your cash with you when you go out

lmao this reminds me ok back when I used to think "it's okay if I get into an accident, insurance will pay for everything easy ez I'll have a car again the next morning and it won't be an issue at all"
lol
lmao
>>
>>109119836
who told you that federal law guaranteed that you will have all costs of an accident paid for you by someone else? they lied to you, i'm sorry.
>>
>>109119865
It's not about the amount of money but the procees, time, and effort.
You can be guaranteed money but in none of these cases are you guaranteed a speedy and quick process and unless you either don't value your time and have immense patience, it's kind of a stupid game to play.
>>
>>109119903
it's a credit card. you haven't paid for the unauthorized charges yet. you are not "guaranteed money", you aren't receiving any money at all. any time spent on this process does not affect or involve you since you never paid for the fraudulent charges in the first place.
you really don't understand how this works, huh?

They're slowly becoming a leftover relic even in the US metropolitan areas. Currently working in the DMV for a business trip and I haven't had to use cash a single time for anything. It's bum fuck middle of nowhere towns that refuse to upgrade along with retail chains like Walmart at home Depot that refuse to adopt it. Walmart is particularly our greatest with it because they force you to use either your physical debit card or their shitty "Walmart pay" alternative where you point the Walmart app at a QR code using your camera and it charges your current on file. If it weren't for shit like that then physical debit or credit cards would be obsolete because even Banks like Bank of America have the option of giving you a virtual card for online purchases or linking with NFC payment services.
>>
>>109116002
That's why I said to remove the magstripe from the card. If the chip reader or RFID don't work you know the jeet's a scammer and can call ICE on him.
>>
>>109119922
how do they know you didint try to scam ?

>>
>>109119922
Are you slow or something? Someone else already outlined what I'm telling you
>any time spent on this process does not affect or involve you
You are going to have to call in and explain that you didn't make the purchase and that they were in fact unauthorized. That costs, like I said
1. Time
2. Effort

Then assuming you get though that easily, you regardless still have to spent time
1. Not having a credit card and all the disadvantages that come with that.
2. Updating/changing credit cards in places where you use it

That's why the process is comparable to that of claiming insurance. In both cases you are insured against monetary consequence, but you're not insured against the time costs of making due on it, and again unless you don't value your time, is something you want to avoid.
>>
>>109120615
my bank lets me do it online, very easy
when it happened to me it took like 1 minute to report since i was already on the site reviewing my statement anyway
i just used my second credit card while i was waiting for them to send me a new one. i didn't have to update any subscriptions either since they automatically switch to the new number.
altogether i had to worry about it for maybe 10 minutes
so basically, you are gay

It's not even close to the same thing. The fact of the matter is that I WILL get my money back if I fraudulent charge shows up on my credit card. The same thing with your debit card but I wouldn't use my debit card lol.
