why the FUCK are websites still using white backgrounds
Tomorrow.
>>109107402why not? is it my fault you're blasting your eyes with 100% brightness while sitting in your mom's basement with the lights off?
>>109107402To save on ink.
>>109107402>why the FUCK were white backgrounds ever usedfixed
>>109107409See how sway I am in comparison ?
>>109107409I'm sick and tired people pretending monitor brightness has dick to do with anything. The dynamic range of the human eye is... dynamic. Most websites had grey or colored backgrounds before about 2011. Pure FFFFFF is not a sane default, because it's by definition always brighter than the actual content, and so will always be too bright. Even word processors didn't use pure white for the paper until 2013.
>>109107801Why are you posting from your phone
>>109108156Why lie?>word processors didn't use pure white for the paper until 2013.No, that is a myth. Word processors have used pure white (#FFFFFF) for digital paper backgrounds since the dawn of graphical user interfaces (GUIs) in the 1980s and 1990s.The misconception likely stems from a major design shift that actually happened around 2013 with the release of Microsoft Office 2013. What actually changed in 2013: Microsoft introduced its flat, ultra-minimalist "Metro" design language. In Office 2013, they removed the distinct gray borders, drop shadows, and blue/gray window chrome that historically surrounded the document canvas. This made the entire application window look starkly, aggressively white, which caused significant eye strain for users and forced Microsoft to quickly patch in a "Dark Gray" theme. The "Paper" was always white: Long before 2013, programs like Microsoft Word (dating back to Word for Windows 1.0 in 1989), Corel WordPerfect, and MacWrite all used pure white for the simulated page area to mimic physical printer paper. While some modern applications now use a slightly off-white cream or light gray to reduce eye strain, standard word processors defaulted to pure hex #FFFFFF paper decades before 2013.
>>109107402Modern UI designers being retarded + minimalism. Same reason why most websites barely use color and look the same 5-10 templates.
